This is very much how I figured it would work out. I never really liked the proportions of Locke (mostly the ads and chest), and have always really enjoyed FTs heroic proportions on their bots. I also don't really like the alt mode on Locke. Just looks off. I really don't understand why everybody says Koot is so difficult to transform. I don't find him one of my more difficult bots. Overall, I think Koot is in the middle of difficulty. Koot is one of those figures that once I got him, the figure made me like the character design more then I ever have. I also know that FTs articulation is not always the best, but how many collectors do you see ever use any of their bot's articulation? Usually they look like they are in a police line up in A stances. I actually enjoy Koot's alt mode. I am glad I gave Locke a miss, now I am worried about their Springer. Thanks for the comparison. The version 2 Locke is such a massive upgrade. Mind you, I don’t transform my figures and he’s still looks like an absolute nightmare to do so, but they solved the paint, paneling and build problems.
I was so excited to get my Locke. Had a review all planned. Didn’t end up bothering at all due to how disappointing it was upon first appearance. I’ve had some time with it and feel differently about it. Still not reviewing it 😂
I’ve got both and never attempted to transform XTB and don’t think I will lol. I love Koot, will probably have him in car mode and pose them together as a feature
Thank you as you've just saved me $70. I like the look of Xtransbots Locke better than Koot but, after this comparison, it's a pass. I've already have Koot and Locke is currently on sale for $70 and I thought I might upgrade. With Xtransbots, I usually like to watch a review first. I went with the sale for they're versions of Cyclonus, Inferno and Grapple instead at $70 each. Cyclonus will be a future Christmas present but both Grapple and Inferno will be for me. Grapple will be an upgrade over my Takara Tomy version, which will now become a future Christmas present.
I've been looking at the two of these recently and finally decided to go with Koot. Should get him in a few days. I like the look of Locke a little bit more, but from everything I have seen, and the hilariously complicated transformation videos I've watched, it seems like Locke is fantastic if he were a statue that you'd put on your shelf and never touch again. While I don't play with my transformers too much, I do want to pick them up, pose them, maybe transform them once in a while without feeling like they'll disintegrate in my hands! I've only recently gotten into the world of 3rd party, and only have a couple of other FansToys, and while they have some frustrating transformation aspects, they are very solid and impressive in quality and build.
Good choice with Koot! I don’t actually collect any modern Transformers anymore, but if I was still buying masterpiece I would only go with Fanstoys. For me they nail it with the premium quality and overall display factor.
@@magnumprime I’m a bit out of control on my spending lately lol. Need to rein it in! Been buying legacy, masterpiece, fanstoys, newage, magic square. Kind of nuts, somebody stop me lol! Great video btw, very much enjoyed it, and it really helped cement my decision.
I’m interested to see a breakdown of V2 Locke and Koot. I came so close to buying Koot before deciding to hold off, only to quickly realize that XTB’s V1 Locke is one of the best-looking but worst-feeling figures I’ve ever purchased. The fixed version does solve a lot of those issues - and makes it less likely to break during transformation, so I hear - but I think the damage may be done.
In my opinion there is no comparison between the XTB disaster and the Fanstoys figure. Exactly like you have said the positive is the XTB looks a bit more toon accurate but that is the only thing he has going for him.

It's my favourite kind of review - one that agrees with my arbitrarily pre-determined bias & can subsequently be used as a source of validation in future arguments, requiring little to no additional thought on the matter from me! Seriously though, I really do wish Locke was a better product - something that sloppy only does FansToys more favours, and their prices are high enough already.
@@magnumprime Oh yes, I agree! For me at least, the mighty FansToys are the absolute market leaders! At worst, one could argue that they've occasionally allowed some questionable design choices slip through, but I'd defy anyone to say their products are anything but premium in terms of build quality, materials & finish! I just meant that FansToys could do with some more robust competition to help bring their prices down & drive them in terms of ingenuity, etc. At the moment, they *know* they're the Ferrari's of 3rd party Transformers & it seems like they're using that to justify charging Ferrari prices lol. That obviously makes perfect sense for them as a business, but not so much fun for us consumers...
Surprised to see the xtranbots look so good compared to the FT. Already have the FT and seen too many bad reviews on XTB figure to entertain picking it up. But paint and presence look a lot better side by side next to FT
That reads a bit like an offended rant. I really like how organised your reviews are. Sadly, you seem to loose on the QC lottery. I've watched most of your MP reviews and your figures all have paint chips etc. that my copies don't have.
Ha ha it’s fine, thanks for watching! So for Locke, you can open the hands, but then the wrist pops open as well! For the hip range, it’s really hard to tell what’s intended and what’s due to floppiness! I do notice the paint chips, they don’t particularly bother me as a collector, but I guess I feel I need to mention it in the review to be as thorough as possible. It’s quite a tricky thing to be honest balancing it all with being concise!
@@magnumprime I think you balance those things well. About the hands, I meant the extra pin joint at his wrist between the finger joint and the wrist swivel. As for what's intended articulation, I don't care. If it moves in a physiological way I'll use it!
