I played this piece at 16 for an audition into North Carolina's Governor's School- there were 50 students competing for 3 slots. I studied with an instructor for months prior to this audition. Man, what a difficult piece for any flutist to attempt! I think Galway does the music justice.
WONDERFUL!! I so hate how stuck up flutists with not an ounce of Sir Galway's ability put him down. He's a master flutist, and I love how he took the flute to another level. Delving into other genres and reaching others that aren't necessarily "classically" orientated.
No, he is not as good as you think he is. He is a master of fingering. Otherwise his tone is disgusting. No body, no core, too much vibrato. There is plenty flutist who has nicer tone... His headjoint is turned in way too much, lip onening is too little
@@alhdgysz Yes he is as good as I think he is. I've seen him several times and been to some of his masterclasses. His tone is beautiful. My opinion as a flutist as well. Just like that's your opinion. It doesn't make it fact.
@@rudolphmcneill3333 as a flutist, you should know, what is the consequence of the too narrow lip opening and a headjoint turned in. Lack of different tone colours, a tone with no depth. (Lookup his masterclasses. There is one, where he is demonstrating the headjoint position) So it means, that he cannot utilize all of the capabilities of the flute. So he is not at the same quality as others, eg. Pahud
@@rudolphmcneill3333 there is an interview here at RU-vid, where he is playing the flute. You can hear that, he is struggling to maintain the second register. It bounces through the 1st and the 2nd octave. Like a student, who has studied for 3 years. Due to the absurd headjoint position, narrow lip opening and closed throat.
He is just so captivating as the flute he's playing alongside this piano. I am hoping to find something with him alongside a harpist playing Faure's Sicilienne.
@@rozannkraus5772 İf you think like that,Emmanuel Pahud is ''the man with Golden flute'' either. And Jean-Pierre Rampal was a legend but James Galway is good as him.
Johnny Machado In this hall, and this platform of playback (RU-vid) the sound is too big for this piece, for this hall and this music period. I have heard Sir James so many times live (also attended many of his masterclasses) and he's awesome, but not a fan of his interpretation.
122avis excuse me but I must know is this what he sounds like in real life? I am a huuuge fan of James Galway and I have not had the opportunity to see him live since I was in middle school thank you
@@122avis Oh wow!!! Did you really see him? This is awesome haha. How was it like? I mean masterclasses etc. I only met with Emmanuel Pahud but I was only 12 years old.And I only said J't aime to him hahaha İt's probably amazing to meeting With Sir James Galway.I really want to meet him.I hope one day I can meet him :)
Trust me (as a freshman), I got to play some professional flutes (just to see which brand and style I like and to see prices) but I played a $25,000 Brannen and it had to most beautiful sound out of all the others I played! My parents were extremely surprised when I just blew into it.
You can definitely feel and hear the difference. I went to a National Flute Convention my freshman year in college. I literally got to try a couple hundred from very inexpensive to upwards of $100,000.
you guys are so lucky to try expensive flutes. on my second week of private lessons, my private teacher let me try her $14k flute because mine was broken.
focus all your time and energy into increasing your max tonguing speed, daily. do it with finger speed too. that what I did to learn carmen fantasy in 2-3 weeks hahaha
@@jaydenlee4067 Me too hahaha And I also hate from my Perfect Pitch friend. When I play autotune he is like : You are sharp,You are flat. And Damn He is right!!!! I would love to be like him..Ugh haha But whatever.I am happy.Because if I practice, everything is gonna be fine!! lol What do you play? Or do you play something?
In this hall and hearing the piece on this YT platform, I have to say, the sound (sonorite) is too big for the piece and period. I have heard Sir James so many times "live" and have been in his masterclasses too, so I love him, but this is not a good rendition of the piece. Live performances always add another dimension too.
