I won't lie, I rarely to never cry to movies, even as a kid. But when I first saw "Fantasia 2000" at nearly 20 years old, the ending when the little sprite restored life to the land, that made me cry tears of joy. That's extremely rare, in my entire life. Well played, Disney.
The Firebird was part of my halftime show back in the days of yore when marching and grades were my life. As a whole, we were gat-dang good at this. No one came to the games for the football, they came for the band. Mars, Venus, and Firebird... Our magnum opus that had the power to leave grown ass adults screaming and cheering through tears. We loved what we did, and it showed. To this day, all these years later, I still know my part and get a little misty eyed when I hear this immense piece.
The end of this song is insanely good. I reccomend watching the full live version of the suite, the one with gerbiev as the conducter, holy crap the passion of that conducter
Walt Disney described the art of animation as: “A Voyage of Discovery, into the Realms of Colour, Sound and Motion.” The music from Igor Stravinsky’s ballet: “The Firebird Suite - 1919 Version,” inspires such a voyage. And so, we conclude this version of Fantasia, with a mythical story of life, death and renewal.
Your so lucky you got to go though. This has been my favorite movie my entire life. I was just too late to see it in theaters. Since I was born in February of 2000. (Missed it by that much)
2:43 consistently scared the crap out of me when I put this on as writing background. :D The full body flinch was probably hilarious to other people in the coffeeshop though.
That part STILL has that scaring effect! I have listened this song many times, and still it is able to get like Firebird got the Spirit. But, it was funny to see, if other people had the same reaction like I had, and... ... Let's just say it was lot of fun watching everyone "jump". :D
Imagine if Bruno bozzeto and voice actors from avengers. Like Chris Pratt Tom Holland Chris Evans and Chris h. Actually made a third Fantasia. It’s not going to be real but would that be crazy in your head
Fun fact Bruno actually did made a (parody) of that film with the 1976 Italy film allegro non troppo witch did suck BIG TIME. BUT MIGHT BE CRAZY If HE DID A THIRD FILM WItH THIS
i think its so incredible it brings tears to my eyes everytime The crescendo is otherworldly in its angelic like feeling of ascension back into life from the depths its just perfect its mythological tales in minutes. its saving the world and losing it and finding it again, infinite, and irreducible, crystallized into the form of sound.
What I like about this piece is that, it reminds us that nature isn't all growing plants, cute little animals, and gentle flowing rivers. It's also merciless, impartial, wanton death and desolating destruction. But that, even in the wake of such ruinous destruction...life can and will always rise from the ashes.
A powerful piece of music and Roy E. Disney came up with the idea for the segment after looking at a picture of Mt. St. Helens and used the 1980 eruption of the volcano as the inspiration for the Firebird
"Walt Disney described the Art of Animation as 'A Voyage of Discovery into the Realms of Color, Sound and Motion'. The music from Igor Stravinsky's ballet 'The Firebird' inspires such a voyage. And so, we conclude this version of 'Fantasia' with a mythical story of life, death and renewal". Angela Lansbury
I got the soundtrack before I ever saw the movie, so I had no idea what was coming when I listened to this for the first time. That moment made me jump (and still does, sometimes)!
@@worldofhunter1636 is that what you thought, dude I actually find that part relaxing. if you got jumpscared well that's too bad. I still find it relaxing to hear, from that point it's just so relaxing.
I would love to see another Fantasia movie! And I loved how 2000 had a ton of variety of animation styles. So if they could do 2D, 3D and clay animation at the same time, it would be the best Fantasia movie ever.
I think this suite is better than the original, despite being only a quarter of the original length. While the original is about a russian fairy tale, this suite matches time itself perfectly: First you have prosperity, then catastrophe, and then rebirth.

I agree entirely. Really not a fan of the original piece. This sounds so much cleaner, more organised, sounds more like an actual coherent story where as the original Firebird is all over the bloody place and just sounds messy.
This is actually based on the 1919 version (even shown in the description), so it’s actually about half the length of the original version. Stravinsky revised the suite in 1945 and doubled it in length compared to the 1919 version. The 1945 version is the one commonly performed now which is probably the confusion. But, yes, I think the 1919 version is much better than the 1945 one.
IX: The Rondeau of the Princesses 0:00-2:43 XIII, a: The Infernal Dance of King Koschei 2:44-4:20 XIII, b: The Lullaby of the Firebird 4:21-5:54 XIV: Finale 5:55-9:13
I've loved Fantasia since I was kid. Listening to this music again as an adult, and this particular piece just hit me for some reason. The climax of the piece (and the associated visual representation in the film, of course) gives me such a beautiful feeling of hope. That's what the firebird legend is about; out of ashes there eventually comes renewal and beauty. Just a beautiful concept of life to consider and its incredible how Stravinsky captured it through such artful music.
There’s prolly already a ton of comments like this but I remember absolutely falling in love with this piece when I first heard it. At the time, it was my second year in middle school and I had already been playing trombone in band for a year. It was only after listening to this that I really truly began to appreciate music and the arts as a whole. About 6 years later and now I’m a senior in high school (still playing trombone btw) and my love for music has only gotten stronger since Revisiting it now, this piece makes me feel all the same feelings I felt when I first heard it, as well as nostalgia. And even today, it is still such an inspiring song for me
The infernal Dance with Scary Music with the orchestra hit and with Firebird waking up and finally eating spring sprite Scared me and gave me nightmares.
Watched this in theaters when I was far too young to be watching it and didn’t understand it. But this piece of animation has stuck with me and has been a huge influence on my art and music taste for decades
No matter what everyone says about fantasia 2000 To me...it's a beautiful and EXCELLENT SEQUEL, no doubt the ones that were born on the 2000's including myself, had the best childhood ever, today...this generation it's the worst...i'm grateful that me and my brother were born on the 2000's era...so...grateful 7:44 it brings me tears and it inspires me for our upcoming future
I can see why, the Rite of Spring is definitely an acquired taste. I personally love the Rite of Spring as well as Disney's interpretation of it, I am just sad knowing that Stravinsky did not like the orchestration himself.
Understandable. I'm not a fan of Rite of Spring either lol especially the ballet, because as a ballerina of 20 years, I hate that the entire choreography goes completely against all the principles and technique of ballet... but yes I much prefer this one than Rite of Spring. I've always preferred music much more melodic like this
For anyone/everyone saying how much they love this music, have you considered listening to the entire work? Heck, even listen to just the parts here, UNABRIDGED? Yes, these are not the musical segments in full, they have been significantly shortened, and honestly, for any classical musical purist, that is pure anathema. I am here because it's a great recording, James Levine is a fantastic conductor, his performance of the Pines of Rome is possibly the best I have heard, but it's definitely abbreviated as well.
And we couldn’t forget about the ending song! June: ♪Come on and sing a song. Let's sing this melody together.♪ Leo: ♪Come on and sing a song. Let's sing this melody together.♪ Annie: ♪Come on and sing a song. Let's sing this melody together.♪ Quincy: ♪Come on and sing a song. Let's sing this melody together. Let's sing a song.♪ All: ♪We love to sing music. We make magic all our own. We love to sing music. We make magic all our own. Music is magical. Music is magic. Let's make a sound together. Let's sing a song together. We love to sing music. We make magic all our own.♪♪
To me re-listening to it, especially at 7:45 and onward, this sounds so biblical to me! Like it’s a spiritual battle of someone or the days leading up to Jesus’s death and then later resurrection!
I agree! As a Christian I find the hope in this music to be very inspiring and I associated it with the triumph of Christ and life over death through his resurrection in my mind.
During watching this movie beside 1940 original Fantasia on DVD. The classical music help me and my brother calm during bedtime back in 2000s early as kid. During revisiting this movie on both VHS and DVD as adult during now, I literally shocked that I learned that the final scene of Fantasia 2000 is definitely based on 1980 event where Mt St Helens Eruptions.

This was my childhood. Back then when Disney isn't full of shit. Back then when Cartoon Network isn't full of shit. Back then when Nickelodeon isn't full of shit. Then I remember every classic cartoons and their pilot episodes I've watched before they were cancelled years before.
