"Fantasia" is one of the most brilliant pieces of animation put on film, and the ending took it to another level. "Night on Bald Mountain" then going immediately into "Ave Maria" to illustrate, as the narrator put it, "the battle between the sacred and the profane," is amazing. Maggie, I really hope you have or will watch this segment in its entirety. Also, did you notice how many ghosts pass through the noose as they rise up?
@garybassin1651

The music you are listening to is the full and unedited version of A Night on Bald Mountain. In the film, they used a shortened version of the music so you are not watching the real version of FANTASIA.

Hello, this is what Disney was about. I recall viewing this on his television program. Later saw it included in theater openings of Disney movies. It was nice to see it in color. What number is it 24 frames per second for a motion video. This was created back when Disney and his Cartoonists drew onto a clear, square acetate cell a drawing for each frame. Including to represent movement changes in each cell. Time consuming and they were masters at it. It's why older Disney cartoons have a certain look and feel to them. I think there was much love drawn into those older Disney productions.

A childhood favorite. The high point of my third grade school year was the field trip to the KCMO Philharmonic Orchestra performance for the school kids across the metro. Third grade was judged to be the youngest that most of us could enjoy the show and be able to sit through it. I didn't miss a trip through my senior year. I remember seeing the entire Fantasia Suite, on the weekly Wonderful World of Disney show about 1961 (I think. I would have been 10). Good choice and good reaction.

Starts with the Mussorgsky Night on Bald Mountain and then moves into the ̶B̶a̶c̶h̶ ̶/̶ ̶G̶o̶u̶n̶o̶d̶ Schubert version of Ave Maria. This is a very powerful combination of music. This has also been a part of my entire life, I remember my dad playing the flute solo to me a very very long time ago, when I was very young. On our honeymoon, my wife and I were able to see this in the theater. Disney had re-released it in 1969 and it was in limited runs. It is a fond memory for us to have seen it on the big screen. Sadly, the politically correct trimming had been done and the sound was not the original multi track version.

Seeing this again, I see a European flavor to the town and in my mind it becomes an allegory for what was going on there at the time the film was in production for the 1941 release. Two years after the twin color pioneers ( Gone With the Wind and Wizard of Oz), this was the next big budget color movie. Watch it all in full.

Fantasia was pretty iconic to me as a kid (I'm only 33 but we had it on VHS and I watched it dozens of times). I appreciated the music and art as a kid and even now, it was very powerful and and it helped to embellish my understanding of good vs evil and what darkness apart from God could look or feel like and how much Jesus is needed in this world. But it may have given me a nightmare or two along the way. What gave me even more crazy dreams was Mickey and the brooms, though, that one made me quite distraught but you can extract life lessons.

They know that the people in the town below will soon be waking, starting with the priests or monks at the church, who start their day making their way towards morning prayers with the "Ave Maria" piece that follows this.

A fantastic music piece by Modest Moussorgsky. But in Fantasia , Walt Disney used not the original score orchestrated by Moussorgsky himself but the revised score re- orchestrated by Nikolai Rimsky Korshakov.Yeah, definately is the Korshakov's re orchestrated version of Moussorgsky's piece, as I hear it.

In 1939, Bela Lugosi (Dracula, 1931) spent a day at the Disney Studios, posing for animators and being filmed as live-action reference, posing for the devilish Chernabog in the “Night on Bald Mountain” segment of the film Fantasia. Ultimately, it was not Lugosi’s likeness that appeared in the character, as animator Bill Tytla was not satisfied with the footage and shot other reference materials.

As you said, this came out in 1941. Disney supposedly wanted Fantasia to be updated with new music and new animated sequences over time. So far there's only been one newer edition in 2000. Each of the animating teams did their own interpretation of the music. If you think about what was going on in the world when this was in production, at least for people who were paying attention, it makes sense that this dark, foreboding sequence should be included. NAZI Germany had taken over most of Europe, England was being threatened, in Asia the Japanese Empire had taken over a large section of China and were making plans to expand even more to acquire more resources. Germany invaded the Soviet Union in June of 1941 and The Battle of the Atlantic really started in the summer of '41 even before Pearl Harbor. For many around the world, this segment might have expressed how they felt. As others have pointed out, this doesn't end without hope, however.

It's a pity you fell on a youtube clip of this sequence where the sound quality is muddy and horrible. Also you didn't get to see the Segway into the next sequence 'Ave Maria' which fits perfectly. Do yourself a favor, and look at the whole film - you would certainly appreciate it.
@fllthdcrb
@fllthdcrb Год назад
Muddy? More like *not even the audio from **_Fantasia_* . Was it only replaced in the reaction video to avoid copyright problems? Or was that what she heard? Because if the latter, that's a huge shame, especially considering it lines up very badly with the animation! (I highly suspect that "Fantasia 2009" at the start has a lot to do with it.)

This my favorite Disney Movie. Just the Night on Bald Mountain. Amazing. Actually the whole movie is my favorite. Edit: I had to stop watching, which is a shame because I was excited for this. The editing and the random zoomed in shots and the added effects were so distracting. My guess is this was to avoid being copyright struck, but I think there's a better way to avoid that. Honestly, and I hate to say this, but it made the video unwatchable. I feel bad because I'm sure you or your editor worked hard on this, but my advice to you is less is more. (I guess the effects are just to add flair and the jump cuts are to avoid copyright, but in that case, its just too much flair.)

I'm so sick of CG. it will never match the creativity, visual appeal and emotional connection I get with hand drawn animation. Human beings drew this. They didn't let a computer do all the work. How they were able to get the timing of the animation to work with the music is breathtaking. I don't mind some hand drawn animation that has a hint of CG, like Courage the Cowardly Dog or some of the darker 90s shorts that use it to enhance what's going on, kind of like how I loved Jurassic Park and Terminator 2 because it combined CG and practical effects perfectly, but there's a reason Fantasia doesn't have a CG version. People would instantly see the difference and the inferiority of CG. Another good one, black and white, is Betty Boop and the Old Man In the Mountain, which features Cab Calloway's music. Some of the black and white cartoons from the 1930s and 40s are better than the colour ones. The more technology you have, the bigger excuse you have to be lazy. This isn't lazy. This is spectacular.
