Broadway 2007.....Watch Fantasia in another number from this "Color Purple" performance at • FANTASIA in THE COLOR ... and the finale at • FANTASIA The Color Pur...
Doesn't matter if you prefer Fantasia, Cynthia or any of the other incredible women that have sung this song... If they connected and gave with their entire heart every single lyric written in this piece, then they deserve all of the recognition they receive for being strong enough to go through that 8 times a week.
Just for the 8 times a week alone... that is a lot. Emotionally it takes something out of you to play that type of roll and deliver with emotion like that. They both have amazing voices, and sang it well.
Mark my words right now..Once the color purple movie releases, Fantasia is going to sweep all the acting awards. Fantasia deserves her resurgence into the industry and this will be the moment she needs to remind us why she’s a legend. Too many folks don’t put her in the conversation of greats, well this movie will do just that. Hold me to it…
omg I had no idea this was coming to theaters!!!!!!!! So glad they cast Fantasia! She’s amazing even if others have done this role well. She did it best!!!!
I will be shocked if there isn't bigtime cheering & applause after this song plays in the movie theaters. Sure it won't be like seeing it performed live but this song is just so great & Fantasia's performance of it in the movie is sure to be just as awesome as it is here!
I actually went to see it on Broadway while she was still starring in it. Plus she's is from my home state and still resides in NC. Also, she dont live far from me. When I first heard this song live, I was in tears... I'm still like that now when she sings it
When Tasia sings "tawlest tree" and not "tallest tree" shows you that this song is meant to be sung from deepest of your soul!! Fave version of this song..
fantasia carries the sufferings of centuries in her voice, her willingness to bring forth those feelings for the rest of the world is truly remarkable. most of us choose to keep them deeply buried
Let's Hope And Pray So! Because if she wins a Oscar for Best Actress she will be making History!! Of The Decade Because no black woman has Won for Best Leading Actress Since HALLE BERRY BACK IN 2002! So let's pray we can witness More Greatness to come! 🙏🙏
I can’t get over how beautiful her “take a deep breath is”! You can truly feel the overwhelming emotion and struggle to confront the trauma in that one line!
I had the priviledge and pleasure to see Fantasia perform this on Broadway. The raw emotion. The love. The pain. I cried my eyes out. Best performance I have ever seen. Hands down.
Kevin E. Taylor , you speak of your Momma as if she's no longer with us. Lawd...I miss mine so very much! I lost her to cancer 11 years ago but it feels just like yesterday she was here. Glad your Momma enjoyed Fantasia, and that it got her out her seat.
No one can act real suffering. Only life can give you that. The way Fantasia sings this song, really makes me want to live. I can't watch this without crying my heart out. Thank you for this huge inspiration!
Andrea Miranda Fantasia's version brings more emotion, she focus more on the acting what makes her singing come out as real suffering. But I think her life experiences help too.
Fantasia is one of those singers/performers who sing from DEEP DEEP inside the soul. I cry about 75 percent of the time when I hear her sing. And have since American Idol, especially “Summertime”. Geez, what a gift. No wonder she was completely drained. After performing this over and over again.
LaChanze is vocal perfection. I loved her as Celie and she created the character...but Fantasia LIVES this song. I have a very poor quality mp3 of Fantasia's final Broadway performance of 'I'm Here' and it makes me cry every time I hear it.
I knew Fantasia when she was little. She came to a small town named Anniston, Alabama where she fell in love with my mother. Years after my mother passed, I found a tape that she did for my mother. Knowing that a Star, could cherish an old grandmother make me proud to say “ I knew her when she was a little girl running around outside of the church that her grandparents had came to perform. “ Fantasia , I bow to you to say thank you for the happiness you gave Mrs. Watts. She watched your career and talked proudly about you all the time. Fantasia is truly a child of God. We love you.
I alway felt Fantasia is an old soul. Someone who has lived many lives and all that DNA has brought her to interpret a song like this. This isn't singing; this a beautiful, gut-wrenching experience.
I saw color purple in New York with Fantasia. I can tell you there was not a dry eye in the theater when she sang this. It hit deep. I love the movie and the Broadway play was so wonderful. Fantasia is an angel!
honestly, Fanatsia is always going to be my Celie. Cynthia Erivo is amazingly talented and has a stunning voice. But there is something about the way Fantasia sings this that it just does something to your soul. She embodies the years of pain and heartbreak but still choosing life, that is this song, all in her raw real and unbelievably powerful vocals. So much respect for her as an artist.
Fantasia: From the very moment she sang "Summertime," I became a dyed-in-the-wool believer!!! She is simply a talent, whose time has FINALLY come. Go forth my sister and reap the fruit. You deserve it!!!
I love how Fantasia really embodied an older woman that’s worked her ass to bone for many years. She walks around as if her body is just exhausted and broken. She really nailed the acting of this character.
Seriously! I’ve seen seasoned actors in the best aging makeup you’ve ever seen and they don’t have the correct walk or anything , totally throws it off
This is a great comment. I saw somebody said they preferred Cynthia because Cynthia’s version sounds and looks like someone triumph. You can’t just erase what the body has gone through out life, by the end of this story she is exhausted and broken and comes to a realization and Fantasia nailed it.
Remember Fantasia said in this time of her life. She was in a sad era ..she was going through a tough time personally... She took that and embodied the role so well. Props to her resilence
I was fortunate enough to see the Color Purple with Fantasia. The ONLY time I've cried at a show. Fantasia is INCREDIBLE! It's a disgrace that she didn't win a Tony for her performance.
Had to revisit this video after seeing the movie casting. God, she’s giving everything. I’m gonna weep in the theater when this movie comes out, I just know it.
Fantasia sang that song like she know what she was singing about. It was a lot of truth in that song for her. God bless you Fantasia God bless you to God be all the glory.❤🎉
I get it Fantasia is a monster! You honestly can’t compare any of them, but for me, Cynthia still has my favorite rendition! Her voice just kills me. Also, the opt up on “sing” makes me scream out loud because it feels so raw and emotional. They both bring their entire selves to the role! It’s apples and oranges really tho!
I remember saving up my money in college to see this play. It was my first Broadway show and it didn't disappoint. I still get chills each time I watch this performance.
I drove from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to New York City just to see Fantasia and hear her sing. I'm telling y'all I witness GREATEST! She was phenomenal and empowering, I just love this woman and I'm thankful God has blessed her life. Fantasia has come full circle and 2024 she gonna win EVERYTHING! I read her book "Life Isn't A Fairy Tale" twice and she stated ...to much is given is required! She is definitely a QUEEN!
Cynthia's was incredibly impressive and more technically sound. Fantasias performance is literally gut-wrentching and makes you just want to break down and sob for hours.
How many of us are here again (or for the first time) after hearing the news that Fantasia will be playing Celie in The Color Purple movie musical! So happy for her!
Never forget when she won American Idol, after she was announced the winner and she sang, she broke down and SOBBED. They actually cut the mike after a while.
BREAKING NEWS: Fantasia is going to reprise the role of "Celie" in the upcoming film version of THE COLOR PURPLE musical!!! WOW!!! I smell an Oscar coming.
@@beenhim9229I’m not sure I’d say that. I think they both could’ve killed. I’d say I was expecting Cynthia based on more film experience and she recently did the show, but since she was already casted for wicked I assumed it would be Fantasia!
Now that they’re doing a live adaptation of this I’m predicting that Fantasia is going to make history and win an Oscar for best actress in a LEADING role.
As far as acting goes I legitimately cannot figure out how Fantasia reaches down so deep for this level of raw, real emotion. Truly unbelievable and unmatched, both her and Cynthia now own a part of my heart forever more.
And Ladies and Gentleman THIS is our Celie coming to the big screen!! Get that Oscar ready now!!! We're about to have 2 Oscar winners from American Idol. So glad they chose Fantasia to revive this for the the big screen adaptation.
