I use Osprey, and have broken a few parts. One email to customer service and parts were in the mail, no charge. Customer service the way it should be. Great packs.

I use the hoops on the front to tie things on to the front. This pack is also daylite compatible so you can attach an osprey daylite pack onto the front. Daylite packs range from 13L to 20L.

Adding bungees, a net or a beaver tail to the back looks relatively easy. You could look at it as they left the back config up to the end user - mesh for clothes, straps for a snow shovel, etc. :)

I love the warranty that comes with Osprey packs. I don't hike but I own one of their commuter style backpacks. One zipper got damaged and after sending it in I got a new replacement pack in under 2 weeks including shipping time both ways

Bought the 65-liter version of this pack around 4-5 months ago on sale at Sportsmans for like $130 and bought my wife the Renn 50 as well. I absolutely love this pack and my wife loves her Renn. It's comfortable with a good amount of weight and has plenty of room. I have put about 50 miles on it so far hiking in the Sierras and I would definitely recommend it to other backpackers as a solid option. I consider it a bit of a hybrid pack as it is fairly light for what you get but also has a great suspension system. It's no-frills but I don't need any of that. The hip belt pockets are great IMO and easy to access while moving. They're the perfect place for sour gummy worm storage. My only gripe is the pocket in the brain of the pack is a little bit hard to access if you have larger hands and larger items are stored in there. Thanks for the great video! I am impressed with the pack for the price so far!

Had a old kestrel 48 that was great. Jumped to an Atmos 65 and the thing squeaked with each step. Borrowed a rook while waiting for warranty and it was loud too. Settled on the Aether plus 70 for a replacement and it has been great!!!!

Awesome video! I was curious where they made cuts to get the price down on the Rook. It's about the same price as my Kestrel 48 and quite a bit cheaper than their other 60-70L packs. I'm glad to hear the suspension system wasn't somewhere they cheaped out.

They have the open space on the back panel if you wanted to attach the Daylight backpack for extra storage. It's the reason why I bought it because I already have the Osprey Daylight Plus.

Hey Aaron, Always a pleasure and many thanks. I'm looking at the Vanquest Markhor 45. Have you tested a Mystery Ranch or another 45/ 50L pack that is just as good or better for versatility, comfort and organization ? Or does this still hold the top spot ? Thanks brother.

@dash8465

The Rook 50 is my go to warm weather pack for a few overnights. The back panel is slick because it can piggyback a Daylite pack. Otherwise just lace some shock cord around the loops (like the IBEX) and its better for wet or bulky items than a pouch would be (inside of pouch gets wet/dirty). No Osprey is really “bushcrafty” but the Rook’s thick materials are leaning that direction, and the price is hard to beat… with packs, price is all about low weight and features, same for tents.. seems the more it costs the less durable it really is. I also have a Syncro 12 with the air gap back panel.. a couple of thoughts on those types: They are fantastic on hot days, far cooler than a thick padded panel up against your back all day, but; The trampoline frame style is stiff/rigid, I dont recommend for really rough terrain of any kind of climbing. They can create pressure points and wear the fabric in the lower corners or around the edges, dont drag one out of your Linex coated truck bed. The load is moved about 1-1.5 inches further away from your back, although there’s no extra padding either, so the net result is about half.
@dash8465
@dash8465 2 года назад
@Heartsongsutube yep, it makes really good use of cheapo amazon shock cord. My Vanquest IBEX 36 uses shock cord too and I really like it, it was my 1-4 day pack - and still is my 1 night option, especially with shovel/Junglass 2 or similar toys/tools - but the IBEX is cramped for space, comfortable-but-hot, and it’s 1.5 pounds heavier than the Rook. Being only 36L everything had to be stuffed/rolled just right to fit back in and in general I’ve become weary of excessive “organization” and have come to greatly prefer the bigger top loading just-cram-it-in Rook for multiple overnights while moving through several camp sites. Compared to the IBEX the Rook is like getting a freebie camp chair (weight), much quicker pack up, better external tent carry, nice cubby for my bag/blanket, the bottle pockets work well and so do the hip pad pockets. The suck part is zero molle for the usual stuff, its not ideal for the Grayl Geopress, and there’s no good place to keep a 4-5” blade on the hip strap… but the Hill People Gear kit bag will hang from the Rooks lift straps, so a 4” blade and other stuff can ride up front while nicely counterbalancing the pack a bit. Basically the IBEX/ALICE style is best for shtf and overnight hunting, while the Rook is way better at covering miles across a few sites.

Great backpack there. Mumma Bear and I got Osprey backpacks last year. I got the Atmos 65AG, and she got the Kestrel 48. I carry about 55 pounds and don’t even feel it. The Anti-Gravity feature really works! 😎 Great video as always. 🇺🇸

I own this Rook 65L pack, and had mixed feelings about at first...? with doubts that it wouldn't be large enough to take my gear because I need to carry a winter tent and 4-season sleeping bag etc (all year round) due the fact we don't get a summer just a mild winter. However, with clever organisation I got the best of both worlds with benefits of a very light weight Rook 65L pack at only 1.6kg this cuts weight before you start filling this pack up with gear and that's a big weight saving and the support from this pack is okay. The thing that's great about this pack is the seeping bag compartment is large enough to take a winter sleeping bag and if I remove the tent poles from the tent bag then slide them down through the cutouts in the compartment divider same with tent and I can access the tent and poles from the sleeping bag compartment this made the pack work for me rather than send it back. Although this pack is worth keeping for how much this packs weight is amazing for a 65L pack at only 1.6kg. Awesome review on this pack and Thanks so much.... 👍👍👍

Seems like a solid option! In the osprey website it states it’s weight range is 30-40 lbs and you mentioned you carried 45 lbs fine. You have made reviews on kelty products such as the coyote 65 and the kelty outskirt 70 that are around the same size and price. Which out of thee would you recommend/think is the best to comfortably hike with 50 pounds?

Awesome video Aaron! The lack of a stuff pouch is unfortunate. That is very useful as an option. Good price for a quality pack however. Some people are saying that this is not a budget pack. I guess that is subjective as most things are. I think it is a budget pack for a high quality pack with an awesome warranty. Osprey is know for their warranty and how they stand behind their product as you know. It is hard to find that when ordering an off brand pack. I ordered the Vanguest Dendrite after seeing the previous video. I would be interested in how you mounted yours and if you Loudoun has changed at all? I assume you mounted it via the daisy chain and chest strap brackets? Just details gear nerds wonder about. Have a great day! Thanks for posting!

Sleeping bag compartment. Can it handle bigger winter bags?
@wallyllaw
@wallyllaw Год назад
I would never ever waste that easy-acccess compartment for a sleeping bag, but I guess a good and compressible winter down sleeping bag could fit in there. I usually carry my "kitchen" there as well as one Nalgene bottle, water filter and some other stuff. I guess it has to be 5+ liters in size. I love my Rook 65 otherwise, but it's incredibly noisy/squeaky. My wife has the Renn 65, and it's quiet. I guess mine is just faulty.
