Great idea renaming the channel 👏 brilliant video love that buckle and yes to a video on electrolysis 👍👏👏you and the deus are in tune with each other 👏👏
I am definitely definitely not a master Phil but do have a little bit of experience… enough to know what to try it on and what not to try it on anyway! And I go quite carefully too! Thank you very much for watching and hope all well - All the best, Alexander
great to see you back to health and back out on the hunt..i ventured out on the last sunny day we had ,,first time in ages,,,and found a lovely clipped silliqua...good luck on your next hunt....i can smell gold
Another welcome vicarious outing. I look forward to seeing you find some good things against the back drop of the English spring. The Elizabeth was stunning; amazing to me how so many of your more significant finds also come up in good condition.
Crikey you should see a brooch I dug up a couple of days ago... funnily enough the silver came out ok in this video but the copper didn't survive well at all; I think its beacuse it is so wet there... Thanks for watching Jeremy and hope all well!
@@HolzhammerLite I was going to mention that a friend of mine put some supposed denari in an electrolysis bath and stripped them of silver, as they were plated fakes. But I guessed you are wise to this. The raven brooch was another case in point. How often do these kinds of items come up looking so good? Not so often. Thanks for making watching videos. And BTW, I was one of the people that abandoned your Crispus monologue, but only because I was in a remote town with a bad connection and it froze halfway through. Had to wait until I was back in a proper town. I did the same research myself when I got an almost perfect Fausta, and was thrilled with that mysterious story, too. Someone should write a script for it. Fausta died after a particularly hot sauna, whether to rid herself of Crispus' child, or the result of a subtle assassination no one knows. The best thing about finding Roman coins is the stories one learns when researching the Emperors. So, I welcome any further monologues, and sorry if my timing out made you think this viewer was bored.
Delightful landscape scenery with those gorgeous English countryside fields! I always get excited when I see a new video from one of your channels. I live in the Louisville, Kentucky area and the oldest former plantation in the state (Oxmoor Farm), dating back to the 1780's - which is located in Jefferson County (the county where Louisville is...) had recent excavations done by the University of Louisville, which turned up finds from the 18th century such as coins, tools, etc. As interesting as watching the news clips of the finds was - I find watching you digging up Roman era artifacts and even older Celtic even more intriguing! Good hunting - Cheers!
Hi Dean and thanks for watching! We really are lucky to be in the perfect place History wise for metal detecting I have to admit... but as you said its all relative and to watch interesting 18thC stuff being found where you are is pretty amazing too... I suspect the scenery is pretty striking where you are too! All the Best, Alexander
Great format Alexander, makes a great channel even more diverse. I do hope you will still keep doing the "back to HQ" as i find those entertaining and extremely informative. Your one of the best Alexander, have you taken a look at "The Scottish Detectorist" I appreciate the way you both approach detecting. All the best wishes to you and your family... Tasci too.
He is very good the Scottish guy! Drives me slightly mad as he can film, edit and publish a 50 minute film in about 5 hours... I wish I could do it so quickly!!!!!!! Thanks for watching Christian and hope all well!
Alexander, I would like to email you, can you provide with an appropriate email address, otherwise I can give you mine if you would rather not publish it. Thank you, it really very important.
thanks for another video Alex , like the re brand! i got a Charles 1st put it on the elctro sadly there wasn't enough left of it. look forward to the next video! have a great weekend!
Yes I think you have to be quite careful with some of those tiny little thin hammered coins BD... And I'm glad you like the rebrand! Hope you're having a great weekend and all the best, Alexander
They can only have been about two days old Tucker! And I will definitely do an electrolysis video… There seems to be a bit of interest in it which is good! Anyway hope all well with you and thanks as always for watching! All the best, Alexander
All caught up now on the 2 best channels on RU-vid 😊. Great stuff, Alexander. Looks like a nice spot, lamb sandwiches for lunch 😉. Getting cooler here now and bit of rain. See you on the next adventure.👍✌️🦘
Well done once more Alexander for another great video promoting our wonderful hobby👏 I for one would like to see you do a programme on 'electrocution' when you have a spare hour or two, as it is something I have not really tried in the past. How do you manage to fit in any antique dealing between your detecting adventures🤔??
I don't bodger! I will have to get back into it soon as I need the ££££ But its been fun concentarting on the whole detecting thing for a while! Hope all well!
Thanks once again Alexander, an electrolysis video is a great idea. The first time I tried it on Silver was a Denarius (30 second bursts, I was so scared) but it cleaned up a treat. I suspect many a detectorist would like to try it but need a steady guide in the process. All the very best to you and yours, Gary
I will do one then Gary - i get a bit nervous with brittle silver but a nice chunky denarius should hold up pretty well! Thanks for watching and hope all day!
Love the paper shuffling at the "news desk"😅 Why do they do that? However, you forgot to press your finger to your ear as if the director was talking to you in the earpiece (something you only ever see "journalists" in films do - real newsreaders don't). Anyway, wishing you continued success, whatever the channel's called, and the rationale behind the split is, and always has, been sound.
Thanx once again Alex. I was especially interested in that depth test on the iron nail. I have got pasture I rarely if ever venture onto but looking at the depths you get with the same eq as I have I really must get on them.
You really should Colin… it may help to have little earpieces like I've got; I think they make hearing those tiny wispy sounds easier than the DS headphones… hope all well and thanks for watching
Thumbs up Alexander . I personally need a shot of Electrolysis I think 😵💫 lol. I would like to see the process please . As ever great Vid, good idea to do some shorts . Many thanks 💯👍
those deep iron old nails are devilish,,,i too dig those uncertain tones sometimes...just to see......it must be the mix of metal they used to produce nails that falses our machines into thinking its good. some of the roman boots nails are so tiny. im currently studying my old farmers land to try and locate that hoard. my farmer told me that on his old maps there was something showing in front of an old tree..he said look there....so i did,,, my friend chuck found his first ever silver roman,,, then i found a silver penny of henry 4th,,the king of bollingbrooke. so my farmers hunch about the tree was spot on. 3 days ago i had an appointment at my brand new finds office,,,i picked up that silver henry 4th ,,alongwith a handful of roman coins,,, part of a roman bracelett and some other bits...and handed in my recently found silliqua......i then drove to my farmer and gave him all the finds from museum and reports....for without his kindness allowing me on his land ,,id not have found them. then he gave me more land,,he was chuffed.
What a brilliant write up in so many respects SSSUK - well done! Not only on your excellent finds but on being rewarded for your generosity and time... I'm sure karma is involved somewhere there!!!! All the Best, Alexander
Great finds Alex always interesting and informative brilliant. On a different subject l see your interested in birds . In my garden in Thailand l have had some great spots, Roller, Golden Oriole, Hoppee, Bee eaters, Great Grey Shrike. And as Bill Oddie would say lots of brown jobs
God, lucky you!!!! I have never seen a golden oriole it is top of my list but I did see a great grey shrike here once... very rare and no-one believed me!!! But it couldn't have been anything else so I eventually rang a friend who is a learned ornitholgist who found out that one had been seen overwintering... in exactly the same spot... so I hadn't gone mad. And hoopoes are so pretty you really are lucky!!!
Another fine vid. Re: Electrolysis. A great tool, but I'd be afraid to use it on some of the finds in case I messed up. Poof - dissolved. All the best.
Thanks Francine... it is a bit unnerving at first but as long as you start on fairly robust stuff and dont leave it "in" for too long..! Hope all well!
@@HolzhammerLite Anything that conducts electricity can be used. Carbon fiber is good if you have some but steel rebar will work too. I haven't used it but Zinc works well according to some. DO NOT use stainless steel or chromed materials because they emit toxins.
It really does Bobby though you have to keep your ears open don't you?! They're not going to give a thumping signal like those squawking minelabs seem to do on the videos I have watched them being used... Hope all well!
Yes would be nice to see how that coin cleans up with electrolysis ( think anode was the word you were looking for ) I also had a nice little silver 1858 5 cent piece which is the first year of production , tiny at only 1.15 grams 😉🇨🇦
Thank you for videos . I would love to see a electrolysis video. Very nice find a Siliqua coin .I have been very lucky to find two scattered hoards of siliqua .34 and a 12 . Len
@@HolzhammerLite He`s doing great thanks Ally, into everything, it`s like I went out to buy a pup and came back with a baby Alligator Ha Ha, Shaz has a little video on her channel, Terry.
It takes a lot of practice Amanda - I wouldn't expect you to get it immediately! 😂 but with a little practice… Anyway, hope all well with you and thank you for watching! X
@@HolzhammerLite great mate just had some more surgery on my back this week so feeling great again😊 might venture out tomorrow dig some ringpulls😂 I’ve tinkered with Electrolysis but would love a video mate
@@HolzhammerLite not blessed with the land up in Cumbria mate but I do try😊 5 years now not a hammered or a Roman😓😓 you make it look easy!😂 glad your well mate
+1 for an electrolysis video. I tried it years ago during my first short-lived attempt at metal detecting and smoke came out of my cobbled-together contraption so I'd like to see how to do it properly, please 🙂 Advice on which coins/artifacts to use it on and which NOT to use it on would be useful too, please.
Please do the video on electrolysis 🙏🏻 I haven’t had the courage to try it yet but would love to know how to! Sympathies on your recent poor run of form also….I am up to five sessions with no decent finds. Fingers crossed for the next one.
Loved the video and new format. Can’t wait until I return in September. Colchester will have to wait. Electrolysis with only 9v battery shouldn’t be too potent but I agree I would check it frequently. Thoughts on going over to deus2?
I'm not going onto a new Deus yet Jeff; I just simply don't think it's that much better than the original… yet! And I can't afford one anyway 😂 hope all well and that you're having a great weekend! All the best, Alexander
I don’t like electrolysis on any metal to be honest. To clean silver use EDTA, takes a couple of days but no pitting etc, saves a lot of the patina also.
oh look, Alexander is also currently dealing with a crusty coin that he was forced to indirectly spit on before .....and even electrolyzing it came to his mind (me still thinking about this) yesterday on a totally not medieval field nearby: 4th hole a hammie (english again kinda naturally - Hen. III longcross) and me deciding to, yes, disrespectfully use spittle on it - few minutes later rain set in, quickly intensified and flushed me from the field 🙃 right now I'm sitting here in front of the screen, holding a penny with a, on both sides, superencrusted legend in my hand and frequently eyeballing this 9v battery next to me,...hmmm.... haven't you already made a video about cleaning really bad looking silvers ? like those really bad ones with the black silver-oxide crust on it we call "Hornsilber" here ? need to watch it again ! the quite uncirculated looking Henry and the cross+ most orbs, I already freed but the legend is the worst crusted ever ! if it decides to stain my coin for much longer I gonna spit on it again just out of spite !
wait, Hornsilber is soluble in ammonia ! weren't the Romans collecting urin all the time to get ammonia 🤔 maybe I should be even more disrespectful towards the crust and not only spitting on it 🍺😂
Do it Feldgeist - it deserves it!!!! I am very careful with electrolysis and experts do reckon most silver can take it though I do wonder with those very fragile hammered coins.... sometimes you just got to face the fact that it just may not clean but good luck with yours!!!! Hope all well!
@@HolzhammerLite all hope is forlorn on this coin and I just severly mutilated His Majesty, utterly destroyed most of the legend furthermore take note; if you ever come across a slightly bend grimey coin, then properly clean it first before glowing it ! otherwise (I guess) the chloride, maybe aided by other salts accumulated from the soil, might act as a flux and turning the grime into somewhat akin to glazed slag it looked so good and just a bit crusty at first, even shinier after bathing in my very personal "ammonia solution" for a while and now old Henry is almost toast ! literally looking like a legit burned coin ! electrocuting it now would just result in complete succesful regicide, me fears poor dirty hammy (who still deserved all of this !!!) but how do you like my new avatar from the hunt before, that I had to put up for "educational reasons" ? almost done with cleaning this mid-sized mount and lost way less than 1% of the remaining gilding - that's a definite success (gold is sitting very weakly on the bronze and the mineralized fine-grime was veeery resilient !) ostrogothic import relic from the later half of the 5th and most likely the oldest example of a cross with anthropomorphic face-arms you will ever see (bc real germanic anthropomorphism just started around that time) the great granddaddy mask-cross of our popular viking ones from the 10th 👌 happy huntin and cheerio !
Hey great video as ever Alex, and liking the new 🎬Branding 📽 idea... 📣 Here's my (rookie) take on 'Reactivity 2': Yes, I totally agree with you here! I find that lowering to R2 def. improves 'potential depth' but the signals, as you say, are much less reliable and, somehow, more complex. There seems to be much more chance of niggling little (false?) iron tones etc. and it's a less predictable experience all round... Having said that, I do try to run at R2 for at least 1/2 the session, when the field's nice and quiet. But...: It sounds to me like your hearing and 'form/skills' are next level - so if you can weedle out these really faint ones at R2.5, then you're prob. best sticking there... 🙏
I agree with you entirely Bobby - I may lower it still but only if I feel i cant get anything at 2.5! Hope all well and thanks for all that! All the Best, Alexander
@@HolzhammerLite Hey thanks Alex, and reassuring we agree on this 🙏 - New permissions coming thick & fast now, so confident I can keep away from the 'bun fights' at the big rallies... 🤣
