@@hvacbudget8600 I guess at least show the main knife against both paper (basic sharpness, precision) and something stronger like paracord or a cable tie. Maybe a stick or piece of wood for the saw - cut off a small chunk. Does the saw go through it easily, does it need effort, do the teeth catch? For the pliers, hold and squeeze something - do they feel comfortable, or do edges bite into your hands? That's always been an annoying thing for me with some multitools. Here's another...How hard can you squeeze something without the pliers deforming? Are they "light duty" or heavier? All these should be quick things you can do while you're showing the tool.
Wow almost exactly like an upgraded multiforce indeed. Really like the addition of the micro driver, swappable pocket clip and those replaceable wire cutters are a big plus
Great video. With the expiring Leatherman patents, 2024 will be an exciting year for budget tools. Especially since the ARC price tag (yes difference in quality acknowledged) is EUR/USD300 odd.
Pocket clip seems like it would allow you to prioritize the serrated vs the plain edge. What I’d like to see is something that allows left pocket, or right rear pocket carry. My wave eventually got so loose that it would open in my pocket, unless it was in my right front pocket.
Some of the Wave clones using the back of the frame to keep the handles solid in the open position. It's not a problem with a spring loaded plier head. If it's not spring loaded I recommend only buy pliers with positive spring tension on the joints because if the cutters bind up it's a pain to operate the loosened clones. Swiss+Tech for example always leave the support springs out. I'm not sure about DaiCamping, but if my memory serves me well the exact clones where you get the pinch point between the knifes are have the spring. The multiforce types usually not.
I think the final test for scissors are cutting a wet wipe or gauze. Please include this in future test. The only scissors cutting very well that very soft material are Victorinox, in my experience. PS4 is decent, Surge pretty bad.
Love my Daicamping DL-1. Would love to have a tool it's size with straight knife, scissors, file, and saw on the outside with a bit drive inside and a pocket clip. The DL-30 is a bit bigger and lacks a clip.
I got one of these and feels more well finished than the workpro. Also I want to point out that Home Depot is selling a vevor branded multi tool that is similar to the ones discussed here at a very attractive price. So far seems only available online.
I love your videos they have changed my view and. My way of spending on any edc or multi tool. In fact I’m gonna be buying this multi tool when I get enough of green stuff because my leather man does not have The two things that this tool has and it is also cheaper As well Anyways keep up the good work bud
Cheap/clone tools have their place, in glove boxes or tackle boxes or other places for having a tool handy "just in case," not one you know that you're going to use every day.
@hvacbudget8600 thank you for your videos. I have viewed several. The common denominator for you with budget multi tools is the daicamping. You do a great job with “intro” videos - this is xyz Multitool, here is the toolset, here is how it feels and compares. Like with anything - tools, knives, firearms, and all gadgets - we really don’t know if we like them until we spend time with them. Please offer a video of long term usage. Use it til it breaks - then let us know. Thank you for your consideration.
Leatherman should be afraid, they've had the market for ages on what can clearly be done inexpensively and still maintain enough usability. There's no excuse anymore for their old infamous 25 year warranty if they still can't get spring tempering that won't break apart and have to discontinue lines entirely before that 25 year could even come close to being honored. Glad I never sent my squirt in since it'd have come back a micra from what I hear. Good tool but not what I paid for. The only arrow to leatherman's quiver anymore will be high end materials on their legacy tools, specialty runs, and potentially some new make or model that keeps them relevant. As far as their 'budget' lineup that's crept up past 50 dollars a pop, Rev, Sidekick, Wingman, those days are over in a huge way. Collectors might want to grab some while they're still in around, wish I'd been able to afford a Crunch when they were re-introduced.
Now that Leatherman has surpassed its patent date it seems like there are a ton of clones. I cant say they are better than Leatherman, quality wise, or weight wise, however for most people the newer clones do the job well enough at one fifth the price. And " most people" includes the rest of the world outside of America. Leatherman is trying to market itself as "premium" which I think is a mistake in the long run. I prefer American made brands, but at the price point, I cant justify the Leatherman for tools I'd beat up. For instance the Leatherman Rev is good tool for what it is, but it's price point was way too high. When I found them on clearance at Home Depot and bought 5 of them for $30, I completely stopped using my Victorinox knives, my Skeletool, and my Wave (for most tasks).
Yeah, they're certainly trying to mimic the scales of a Leatherman Free. That mini flathead driver seems very delicate as you have described in that past, its displeasing to me to see it over and over again. If they really wanted to improve upon this design, just put a replaceable micro driver for eyeglasses, etc. If the Chinese like something, they make there own version of it out of flattery. There's a money making aspect to it, anyone can see that. For me, I believe in copywrites and registered trademarks so its a fine line for me, respectfully. I would imagine its very hard and technical to enforce these laws internationally. I think the Chinese are very smart people but I would like to see something of their own make and compete with Leatherman, SOG, Victorinox and Gerber with something totally different. I would still prefer to buy a Leatherman Rev with overseas components and have a warranty, like SOG and Gerber which are mostly made overseas than to have no warranty at all. Being made overseas isn't necessarily a bad thing but unfortunately way too much is coming from China.
I don't see why Leatherman wouldn't be instead insanely happy about that, cause that pattern on the outside is a pretty stupid design copy to make, which can potentially confuse customers and which opens them wide for a copyright/design lawsuit. While other parts could have been argued away by technical necessity for the tools/rounding to be more comfortable, copying the exact same pattern can't. So, good luck to whoever cloned that.
Clones are great until you realise they don't use quality grade stainless steel and the heat treating is poor. With that said, Leathermans reign is over.
Excuse me but Leatherman deserved it. They were gatekeeping for long enough to go ahead of any competition and they did it! - have you seen their prices?! At least they are the #1 again
I don’t see that Leatherman has anything to worry about. They’re probably of the mindset that imitation is the highest form of flattery. Now… knock-off their magnetic engineering, and we’re talking a whole different story. 😬
Anything good… gets cloned now days… it’s sad but it’s also flattery… but lately there’s no innovation from Leatherman compared to the other companies… nothing exciting… yes the quality is there but… there’s no excitement… a redesign or even a new design of the Crunch would be nice
Should leatherman panic? Maybe. Sure is hard to hire ppl here in the states right now. Makes it even harder to compete with child and/or slave labor in China.
Leathermans biggest market is most likely America, as long as Americans anti everywhere else mindset continues (which it will), companies such as Leatherman will remain fairly comfortable. International sales are another story though, Leathermans high prices work against them there, although they still have a reputation for quality products.
It’s really sad to see the world we live in with people supporting these clones. If I were Leatherman I ‘d just shut the doors and say a big FU to the people who buy this stuff. I’ve heard the arguments on why people buy clones, but let’s be real. People will say they can’t afford a Leatherman tool and then turn right around and show their 500 knife collection, it’s pathetic!!!!!
Leatherman will always have their fanboys who are not only willing to pay their high prices, but will collect the entire range. Victorinox does well partially for the same reason.
@@Skobeloff... I’m by no means a Leatherman fanboy, matter of fact, I quit buying them because of their crazy price hikes. I just don’t support stealing other peoples designs and selling stuff to the pubic for Pennie’s on the dollar. To each their own I guess. As for Victorinox I would only say 10% of their line is overpriced and that’s simply because of supply and demand. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a better value on the planet than Victorinox Pioneer. The cost to build quality simply can’t be beat.
@@toolsgear2695 Some of the Victorinox Saks seem fair enough pricewise, although finding a logical one is difficult since they appear to be designed to collect, rather than use, but no doubt there are some that suit some people. The pioneer does not appeal to me. I have a tinker sitting in a draw, and would have had a manager had they not discontinued them. It is a pity that Victorinox are so plastic focussed and then the Alox do not have the scale tools. The Victorinox plier style multitools seem very overpriced to me. Not sure if there is a brand with the right balance of quality and price out there.
The patents for these multitool designs have long expire. I do buy clones and hope Leatherman improve their lineups and stop crazily increasing their prices.
Sometimes I‘m embarrassed to wear my Leatherman, bc Leatherman doesn’t do better (sometimes even worse) than the budget ones. They charge the fivefold of the budget tools
I wouldn't. Because my brother in Christ, it's a tool. The only thing that should ever disqualify it is it not doing you do what you need it to, and even then - don't act about it like a patent-protected company is your friend.
@@nosville22 would you buy a hammer from a thief? How about one that was stolen from your neighbor? That is exactly what this is and you are making excuses for the thief. It’s disgusting and everyone can see it.
@@IlmarBeekman It's not. Patents are in place to protect the inventor but for progress to take place advantsments need to be available. Letherman's patents are expiring so it's fair game for a reason. Also no, it's not like buying from a thief, because a thief puts no work into the product itself, and where it comes to middle men, I dislike even the legitimate ones. I was gonna say, that what I find more accurate as a comparison would be having to buy screwdrivers from the company that came uo with the interchangable bits format, but then I realized, it's actually exactly what Letherman does, so another, better example is having to buy Philips screwdriver made exclusively BY Philips, since they came up with the design.
@@IlmarBeekman actually you are buying from a thief. You remember the leather sheath design steal from a single designer? They could have easily buy the design from him. That was the moment I lost respect for leatherman
