Loved this show , it was of its time but a highlight of the week. Frank talking about Jeff Astle being a great header of the ball wiped the smile off my face though. Kind of poignant when you think of what happened . Terrible shame (RIP)
Yeah. I read Michael Calvin’s book State of Play, and one chapter tells the full story of Jeff Astle’s last moments. Grim is an understatement. You’d think it was about a man in his 80s, not his 50s.
Was Frank Skinner trying to do Jeff a favour by getting him this gig, what with the Baggies connection? Jeff really did have a good singing voice though, as Frank would appreciate being a handy singer himself.
