Fanxiang SSD: www.ebay.com/i...
Today we’re taking a look at the 1 terabyte 20gbps capable external SSD from Fanxiang. This is a newer SSD brand to me, they had reached out asking to sponsor a video and after taking a look at the SSD specs and size, I was interested. This external SSD comes in a nice small form factor but it's not so tiny that you’ll lose it easily. Seems like there’s plenty of space inside of this enclosure for a little bit of air and some heat sinking material. The SSD advertises a super fast 2,000 megabyte per second read speed and a 1,800 megabyte per second write speed. The 1tb model that I have here is rated for 512 terabytes written which I think is a solid endurance rating. This SSD comes with a USB cable capable of either 20 or 10gbps transfer speeds. IF you have a USB 3.2 USB-C port, you can get up to the 20gbps but in case you don’t, the cable includes this little adapter so you can use a USB 3.0 type A port which is common on slightly older pcs. I really like that they include this for compatibility. I wanted to test this drive out on my PC so I ran the Crystal Disk Mark 8 benchmark and I was very impressed. Using the 20gbps connection, I got 2100mega bytes per second or around 16.7gbps for the read benchmark. The write benchmark was around 1,900 megabytes per second or about 15.5gbps. Next I tested transferring a large 50gb file from my internal SSD to the 1tb Fanxiang SSD, I was able to fully saturate my internal SSD here so the speed was capped at about 525MB per second but the external SSD did not slow down at all during the transfer so I was quite happy with that result. This line of external NVMe SSDs comes in 500gb, 1tb, 2tb, and 4tb drives. Given the speed test results, the build quality of the SSD enclosure and the nifty cable and travel bag that they include, I would say this is a good value external SSD. I plan on definitely using this SSD for when I go to LAN parties. ITs small and lightweight, a good amount of super fast storage, and it doesn't break the bank. If you’re looking at ditching an older portable SSD for something super fast, I would have no problem recommending this drive. Hi there! The model that I have is actually the 1TB model but it does come in 2TB and 4TB. I can assure you, the SSD is legit, here's an imgur link of mine being nearly full with 17 copies of my testing file: imgur.com/a/uk43n4W

I just bought the 4TB version today and I think I'm going to have to send it back tomorrow. The performance is bad. If I copy a large single file performance is okay but if I copy a folder with many small files it's far slower than my WD external 5400 rpm 2TB HDD. My win10 laptop doesn't have the latest usb 3 standard but what it does have works better with my usb HDD.

Hey, interesting. I have generally very good performance in my copy tests. Did you try other USB ports? Did you have a 5gbps USB-C port?

@@STS yes I have usb c. I can't remember exactly what speed they are. Yesterday I copied a large folder from my internal c drive (ssd) to my external HDD and it took 2 hours. Today I tried to copy it to the fanxiang 4TB. After 3 hours it was about 15% done.

@@philsnewaddress Whoa, that's way worse than I thought. In my testing I did not experience this but my small file testing was mostly copying two copies of the CyberPunk game files. I'm not asking for specifics but what was it you were copying? I would like to try to copy something similar to retest my device
