Wouldn't it be cool if the most awesome guitar company made an ML and/or ML razorback 25.5 inch scale fixed bridge with no inlays?! I think it would be a big seller! #teamcart #noinlays

Oh, some people don't need inlays, not even side dots. Or frets... But I for one do! 🙂 The more the merrier. I suppose it also depends on one's playing postion. It's not that awkward to look at the fretboard while playing 😁. And yes, like mentioned above, I too prefer them aesthetically.

Would be awesome to get Tremonti on your ''Coffee with Ola'' show,even better get him AND Myles Kennedy,because Myles is actually not only a great vocalist but also an accomplished guitarplayer.He was actually a guitar instructor for many years,has great knowledge in theory and plays lots of guitarparts in AB(the solo in ''Addicted to Pain'',first solo of ''Blackbird'' or the intro in ''Cry of Achilles'' on the spanish guitar,that's him). The guy even gave Tremonti & Slash lessons in various Jazz/Fusion techniques.

I don't really look at the guitar at all when I play. Just play by feel. Often played in the dark when i was learning. But I choose with inlays because I prefer how guitars look with them. No inlays looks wrong to me, like something is missing. Just a personal choice. Love the channel brother!

You've almost got me to be a member now just to be able to jam with you! On the inlay thing, I get where that dude was coming from, because when I got my 1st classical guitar early in my playing days I remember being so lost because it only had 1 side dot at the 7th fret, and nothing else! Playing that got me over needing inlays pretty quick.

The thing with inlays isn’t so much about the look of the instrument to the person playing it as much as it is to the people watching the player. It’s also about the look of the instrument when you aren’t playing it that makes you want to pick it up. If the aesthetic wasn’t important, then all cars would look like a brick from the outside. You can’t see it while you’re driving so who cares, right? Thanks for another awesome vid, Ola. You are the man!

RC32 Rick has more knowledge than most any guitarist I have found. Masters degree in music and a fantastic guitarist, pianist, drummer, bassist and producer. He made Tim Pierce seem like a rookie theory wise in their collaboration of Larry Carlton’s solo in Kid Charlemagne. Tim has been a session guitarist for 30 plus years and knows guitar well but compared to Rick, he was the student and Rick was the professor.
@vaughanmacegan4012
@vaughanmacegan4012 5 лет назад
+@@SIXSTRING63 Yes, there is no doubt he has the knowledge, but, that doesn't make him a good teacher. I have watched a number of his videos and it's either too basic, or it's way over my head. There is no structure to it, there is no middle ground. So I am *not* learning anything. I watched one of his videos on modes and I was with it and then it was like, what the hell just happened!?! I can't follow this. And I know a little about modes. I looked at some of the comments, and I saw that I wasn't the only one who couldn't follow the curve. So, what should I do watch the videos without understanding what he is on about or try and find someone else? You tell me, you seem to knowledgeable. Do you have a theory channel? Do you teach? I want to learn but I'm getting older and that makes it harder.

I left college, went back home, joined a band (I was a bassist) met my wife of 30 years in the back of my drummers van and the rest is history. Hey ola! I've been watching your videos since the original dual rectifier vs engl savage video. When recording do you think your cabinet/speaker choice is more important than the amplifier you're using? Also do you really just slap an sm57/58 in a good spot and not have to eq aside from low and high pass for it to sit in the mix?
@musicmason
@musicmason 5 лет назад
Johnathan King I think the hardest thing is to find an amp you love the overall tone and feel of. The most drastic way to alter the sound of an amp (other than mic placement) is to use different speakers. My favorite thing to do is configure a 4x12 with four different speakers. That way I can choose a different speaker for recording depending on what the mix calls for. This can sometimes reduce the amount of EQ needed as different speakers accentuate different frequencies. This also helps keep multi-tracked guitars separated in the mix without relying exclusively on hard panning or riding the faders. Buying a couple different speakers is usually cheaper than having multiple amps on hand.
@johnathandk42134
@johnathandk42134 5 лет назад
@@musicmason I know with me personally if I find an amp I like the response of with the gain structure and low end bounce, I feel more of the EQ comes from the speakers and cabinet. I'm just curious to hear ola's take especially since he has tons of recording experience and I love his tone.

fretboard dots is actually a good idea, because if you need to make adjustments with the top side of the neck facing away from you, you can still navigate the neck. For example, if you set your action a certain number of millimeters above a certain fret, it makes it easier if you know exactly where to go. Hard to do on the bottom side of the neck if you don't have fret dots.

I don’t press the notification bell because I like to browse RU-vid on my own time. I don’t want my phone pinging when a new video goes up, I prefer to set some time aside in the evenings and manually browse and watch my favourite channels. Don’t worry about the notifications bells dude, I’m sure I’m not the only one who still watches ALL your videos.

Hey Ola, great to hear the burps coming back again, seem to be on top form! For someone who lives in a frozen wasteland in Canada, with no Solar guitars in sight to test out. What would you say are the closest guitars to Solar in terms of specs, feel etc? I'm sure your brand is way superior to anything on this god forsaken earth...but just trying to get an idea if I was browsing some bigger available brands. Keep up the great content! It certainly makes the Sunday misery of going back to work that much more pleasant!

Dude, I don't have notifications turned on for anyone anywhere on any website/service/app including all the apps on my phone, because I feel like technology is trying to control me. I like discovering the videos from my subscriptions by my ownsome, it makes the whole experience more interactive, mystic, and I get excited when a new video is released! For me it's like finding $20 in a pair of folded jeans (AKA Fucking Awesome!), maybe I'm just weird.

So happy to hear you advise the Boss Katana. I've got the Katana 100 KTN 100/212. Very happy with it!

Side dots are perfect, Ola. Only a couple of my guitars have inlays, now that i think of it.

Greetings from Maine, USA! Alter Bridge is my favorite band of all time! Recently turned onto The Haunted and led up to your playing with them. Strength In Numbers is a killer record!

Every few months I come across The Underground in America cover you did with FLS and Delta Empire, you did such ah great job Ol’s! I’m always expecting it to jump right into Sandblasted Skin. You three should do an hour long video of a Trendkill full album cover. Ha! Like any you have the time. All the wah-men would love it. Cheers from Texas!

Side dot markers are all you need. Fret board inlays are not needed. Keep up the good work, Ola!

For beginners, I think the issue tends to not only be 'which fret', but also 'which string', so I imagine there's a lot of looking at the fretboard from a different angle than those of us who have been playing for years and years.

Very good point. Shit I've been playing for 15 years and I still look at the fretboard more than I would want to, mostly to make sure I'm fretting the right strings

I think inlays are more wanted for looks than function. I appreciate when a guitar has interesting inlays, I also use them when teaching someone to play for my reference, so I can see at a glance what fret they are playing.

I reply to your question about the fretboard dots/inlays and how we use them. In answer to that I use both but as I improve as a player I find I am using them less and less. No I own guitars that have very elaborate inlay designs that are less friendly to fast fingering and quick cord changes, so I use side dots. As an appearance preference I think Solar guitars look killer without inlays. However sometimes I find myself wishing to see how you would interpret say the tree of life inlay on Steve Vai’s signature. Just a thought.

Mark is super down to earth and is not afraid to talk. At a meet and greet after one of his shows (with Tremonti) I jokingly asked why they didn't play a certain song. Instead of just saying that it was too long of a song he went into detail as to why they couldn't play it that night. Super down to earth and super talented.

Hey, Ola. Really good to hear what you say about Rick Beato. I've noticed the majority of 'metalheads' are very critical of Rick. I think it might be because he is SO intelligent and is able to work out HOW songs were written.

Hahahaha !!! Awesome video ! I also have a cast because of a broken wrist. I feel your pain. Thank you for respecting Alter Bridge. They are my all-time favorite band and yes, as you said, they are far better than Creed ever was. I've met Mark a couple of times and he's a very humble, genuine and very warm person. Having him on one of your " Coffee" episodes would be awesome. Rick Beato is amazing too ! Love his channel. Steve Vai....Top 5 favorite guitarists for me. OVER-RATED !!!??? No way. He's one of the greatest of all-time. Love your videos !!! Keep up the great work. Greetings from Canada !!!

Thx Ola, I totally dig your FAQYOU:s and watch them (non-)religiously. Alter Bridge is an amazing act. Just check out their Royal Albert Hall concert from last year! Especially I was impressed by some of the mellower songs (ballads). And btw, I have a Katana 100 combo. Can't seem to get a decent metal tone out of it, though. Perhaps you would have a few tips, or even some patches, to share? Greetings from Skåne

When you're a beginner yes dots on the fret board and side dots definitely....but as you progress most guitar players use only the top if at all.....when I purchased a schecter guitar it had no dots on the fret board only on the side....I'd been playing for a few years and didn't think about it at all. ...I'd did try an experiment and covered up the dots on the side of the fretboard....and got lost a few times but that's another thing I got used to it pretty quickly....

I agree, I have had the same experience when I bought my first guitar (with my own money). Still to naive to think about that stuff, and never really noticed! I had only been playing for 3-4 years. Upsides and downsides which depends on the person I guess? 🤷🏼‍♂️

I think inlays could help beginners a bit but actually for intermediate players it's just about to accustom oneself to the neck, but a different kind of inlay like the jacksons, or some cool figures that make solar guitars different would be awesome to see greetings Ola!!
