Beautiful, yet so simplistic. Thank you. I'm struck by how prim and groomed a good share of the area is around most of the dwellings. Hedges are crisply trimmed; the lane you walked on has a knife's edge to the grassy shoulder; even the fish pond looked to be newly constructed. And the farmland seemed to be properly balanced in unison to the surrounding tree-filled hillside. Most picturesque.

We do not need National Geographic, because your cinematography and commentary is brilliant Ryan! I have lost track of time, yet thinking you post these vlogs sometimes after your journey,, so maybe you are back with your family in your village by now. All the best to you, Damo, Otis, and Hugo. Peace and Love

The village looks very clean and tidy. Everything looks well kept and without the dreaded plastic bottles laying around everywhere.

No taxes, no census, no police, no authorities, no crime? Would have liked to hear the attitude of locals to those ideas. Fascinating. Thanks for the vignette of a very different mode of living.

Truly rich. Much cleaner than Pai. Pristine. Out of my league. I fear I am all too frail of mind, and one evidence after another proves this to me, and I make this reference relative to my language barrier. Solution: I must learn Thai as soon as I can find the best, and most reliable classroom tutorial, to bear down on, and knuckle my head over. It is really nothing more than good hard work. Just don't over do it.

When I was in Thailand walking in a neighborhood, I notice that dogs will bark at me when I'm speaking English on a phone or singing a song in English, because the dogs never really hear that language before and so they will bark at you.

I find the village life very rewarding but would be too slow for most Western visitors. I have lived in Thailand for 16 years and I find this village too quiet for me. It would be OK for a few days or up to a week but no more than that. I like my creature comforts too much.

Those native people I believed are Lao country mountainous folks. As a matter of fact, half of Northernmost part of Thailand used to belong to Laos up until French colonized (invasion) after post WW2. The French got whopped by the Laos and Viets and got pushed out. Since then, the borders land declamation never properly marked just like India and Pakistan by the British and all all around the world. As a result, Thailand whom happened to be stronger than their neighbors and siding with the west helps were able to conquered their neighbors or stolen the lands as far south to Malaysia and Cambodia

What has been filmed by Ryan are Karen and mentioned once on this VDO and speaking ‘Pokoniaw’ You have the white Karen and North of Mae Hon Song the Red Karen with a different language with different clothes pattern and within the red Karen you have different distinct groups. White Karen are spread all along the border mainly from Ratchaburi province, Uthai Thani , Kampheng Phet , Tak, and Mae Hon Song but most White Karen are located in Myanmar. Unfortunately that most people are not aware of you have a total of 9 camps along the Thai Burmese border opened since the early 90’s . Both Karen groups have been displaced by a vicious war since the very early 60’s and getting worse as we speak. I will not locate these refugee camp often called temporary shelter for displaced persons. Thailand is not a signatory to the 1951 UN Refugee Convention, which means refugees can currently be 'treated as illegal aliens'. It has, however, committed to the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration and the Global Compact on Refugees, and currently hosts over 95,000 refugees. I worked in the camps for 10 years and resettled more than 120’000 Karen refugee but that is another very long story …..
