sounds like skill up didnt find a single prepper stash, also, does he know about force spawning predators with bait? 10 minutes to find a bear? you can force spawn 10 bears in 2 minutes and kill with bow and arrow and survivalist harvest perk and get 4x pelts per bear. thats like 1000 dollar per minute, minimum.
Money was never a problem for me, I got probably 70% of the things you could get by only grinding hunting occasionally for a few hours throughout the game.
Mike Steve I would take the archer girl, Jess I think her name is, Order her to kill an animal and she’d clean headshot it, I’d skin it, get bait, throw it, kill the predator and rinse repeat got carried away and when I went to sell my loot I ended up making like over $12000
Yah he says he didn’t do a lot of side content, so of course if you’re mainlining the main story, not doing side content and not exploring, you’re not going to have a ton of money. If you engage with the game’s content in even a minimal way you’ll end up with plenty of money and I’ve played through a couple times and ended each game with more money than I had things to spend it on.

Great review, and I agree with almost everything you said apart from the in game money issue. There is an easy way to earn cash: you need to unlock 3 of the specialists - Boomer, Jess, and any one other. This unlocks the leadership perk to let you have 2 companions at once. You'll also want the Harvest Master perk, which doubles the number of skins that drop from kills. Go to any hunting area, Boomer will automatically tag animals in the vicinity, then have Jess kill them. She drops most animals in one or 2 shots, and because she uses a bow, you'll get double the skins, which gets doubled again with the Harvest Master perk. So basically you'll get 4 skins from every kill and because she rarely misses, you'll be killing animals pretty quickly. Load up on skins and sell them at the nearest store and enjoy your riches!

I'm conservative leaning and the game didn't bother me. Except when I accidentally picked up a gun I didn't mean to. I enjoyed it actually. Didn't have a money issue either.
That's what happens when a big developer/publisher is out in the stock market. Sure they have piles of money to spend on the development but the investors also expect a huge return... and you can probably guess the rest.
connothecowboy every single large publisher is basically forced to put microtransactions in their games. At least Ubisoft did it in a way that’s very non-aggressive.
I just wanted clear some things up about the microtransactions. The currency you buy can only be spent on Prestige skins for weapons, special skinned weapon variants (not entirely new weapons, they're the same), variants of vehicles, and character clothing. They cannot buy attachments or ammo. This means people cannot get better guns by simply spending more money. That just isnt true. It is all cosmetic based. Secondly, SkillUp didn't mention that (although sparcely) you can actually find the microtransaction currency in the world. It's hidden in safes in compounds and other unique areas. Therefore, you can use the silver bars you find in-game to buy skins and whatnot, and save the normal in game currency for the things you really want still. I'm not saying microtransactions are okay, but they really aren't that bad in this game in the slightest.
As a note about the monetization, you could play "Arcade" and earn cash and skillpoints that does not take away from the Campaign's ammunition stores. I do not like the monetization either, but I have been thinking hard about this for the past week and how to grind past it without spending real money.
About the money system, the weapons you acquire throughout the game stay in your inventory for further use down the line. I picked up a bow, dmr, rocket, and an M60 and it stayed in my inventory for free afterwards.
As for the “not enough money” thing, prepper stashes. Just find prepper stashes and you’re golden for the most part. Also, if you do play co-op, you can hit that same prepper stash in your world AND your friend’s world. So, around $1800-$3000 per stash
Remember the announcement of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon future Soldier like 6 years ago on the PS3 that was awesome. Ghost Recon Wildlands is perfect example that not every game has to be open world.
I have always been a Completionist in Games.. especially when we talk RPGs, or Open World Games in general. My favourite sidecontents are of course the Outposts, the Prepper Stashes and of course... the racing stuff from our beloved Hero .. Clutch Nixon! :) Although I am not a big fan of the first person view, I must admit that I had my fun with Far Cry 5, but the Microtransactions makes me want to regurgitate. This is a thing which must be purged from the gaming world.
It is ridiculous, though, how the "Three Horsemen" always manage to bring you in, no matter where you are or what you are doing. I actually made it into a sport to see how long I could avoid their henchmen. How did it go? Not well. 1. I hid inside a fortified cabin with only one entrance. No one came in. Got hit by a magic blowpipe dart. The hell? 2. Jumped in a helicopter. Flew to the highest point on the map. Enemy helicopter flew by. Blowpipe dart... 3. Swam to the bottom of a lake. Ran out of air. Resurfaced. Blowpipe. (Bit obvious, really) 4. Hid myself in a bliss field. Made it burn all around me. No blowpipe. Got high on bliss fumes. (Hi, Faith...) 5. Started a side mission JUST as they came to get me. Thought I was safe. I wasn't. Side mission cancelled... There's NO way to avoid being collected once you've been marked or blessed or whatever. But I WILL find a way, even if it makes the game explode!!!
You had two bugs in the same clip. His dialogue sounded like he was in a bathroom (minor). Anyway, this is my first downvote for a SkillUp video. There's no mention of the AI, how enemies spawn, how the physics and collision StandUp and that's really the core game loop, your interaction with the inhabitants. Hope to see a more thorough PC release review.
I think the monetary stinginess is actually a component designed to try to get you to play the Arcade mode consistently. Every level gives you real world money that carries over into your campaign mode, and progress for Arcade levels happens no matter what game mode you choose. I think the *real* world currency option is there for people who want to unlock things but can't be bothered to do the Arcade, it gives them a monetary alternative to time spent in the (what seems like it will be quite fun) Arcade mode. EDIT: I never found myself short on ammunition by simply finding the first couple of obvious stashes and winning over the first compound. Afterwards, most bodies I ran across gave me multiple ammo type full notifications. My money, even early on was put towards attachments for weapons and then subsequently to vehicles and/or weapon skins.
Great review. I was especially happy to be informed about the portrayal of politics and the resource management with regards to money and ammo. Definitely two negatives, but everything else about this game looks great. I'll probably pick this up if a friend of mine decides to do so. I think I'll share this review with him. It's essentially the "don't work any any place you like to eat" philosophy. Once you know the motivations behind balance and design decisions, you will stop being able to just blindly accept or ignore the ones that you know are purposely predatory.
Im a little late to this but about the buying ammo thing, theres ALOT of ammo littered around home bases and cleared outposts. The only ammo i ever buy is 50cal. Everything else is given pretty regularly. Hunting is a great way to earn money in FC5 (if you enjoy it). I once hunted for about 45 minutes and got about $14000. By the end of the game, i was looking for excuses to spend the in game money.
Jesus how lazy some people are? Pressing square for 2 seconds to loot a corpse is not a big deal xD. That's a good way to get cash, items and ammo. It's weird that you dislike looting since you like the division.....
I mean can't you like find the premium currency in every outpost anyway thus making it easier to purchase weapons/ammo? Also i assume ammo pickups are automatic so that you aren't stuck looting a body in the middle of a firefight when ammo runs out and that you can easily take a minute or 2 to loot for money after
This game does have its share of hate but I love it personally. I do understand why some don’t. You have a few different types of far cry fans. The type that think 2 is the best and nothing matches it since.. some that think 3 and 4 are the best. And some that just love the whole series . I never played these games until this one. So I will always have a soft spot for that reason. Just loved the world and how good it looked.. and the cult and the villains. Had so much fun playing through it. Then it opened me up to play the rest (minus FC1. Just haven’t had the chance yet). Love the series now. I will agree that Joseph wasn’t as charismatic as Vaas or Pagan. But I still liked him. He was good in his own way. And they did try to listen to fans and made sure we got more screen time for their villains In this one. That is something I really wish 3 and 4 had. But on the other side of the coin... I do wish they would have left in the actual animations for skinning and looting and knife kills. Doesn’t seem like it’s going to stray too far into new territory in 6.. and that it’ll be much of the same. But I’m ok with that and I am stoked to see how that one plays out when it releases. I do hope it sort of backs off on trying to make us use real money though... that will turn me off real quick.
Great review. Love the franchise,but....... I’m of two minds on the currency system here. 1. It lends itself to more realism in “game world”. Things cost money. 2. It’s clearly meant to drive the purchase of in game currency...and I hate that. -I’m going to play it anyway but I’d rather see their micro transactions aimed more at skins and such, rather that hiding away weapons,vehicles and stuff.

Yea but Microtransactions aren't a necessity you can get 1000 silver bars from outposts or if you got some leftover cash from your college tuition then use it on some silver bars they aren't a necessity just buy or get a few from outposts if you're running low
As an assassin's creed fan I've learned that you just have to turn your mind off and just have fun killing, looting, and exploring. AC3 for example is not considered to be a great game, to me though it was my first AC game and it was freaking amazing to me. AC Origins is perfect fun for me, and I hope that FarCry5 is just as much fun for me.
I really wasn’t too offended by any of the political jabs really. Hearing off comments saying how people were glad to have their 2nd amendment rights was nice to hear. It was done in a way where it didn’t take away from the experience of the game. I still enjoy it a lot, but many who have any opinions in the conservative sphere have accepted that game devs aren’t gonna really cater to us. My credentials: I live in the woods
Can't really agree with your opinion on the microtransactions. I'm playing regular missions (side-and main) and the money is rolling in at a steady pace. It takes an acceptable time to unlock new stuff in my opinion, I don't have the feeling it should go any faster. The microcurrency (silver bars) can also be found ingame.
Hi, great review! I'm thinking about buying the game, it sounds awesome, but I'm a little bit worried about the microtransactions. Like you, I just get a pit in my stomach when I feel a game is greedy and setting up the gameplay to make me spend more money on it. I just wanted to ask, if you compare the amount of cash that flows your way in Far Cry 5 to how much cash you recieved in Far Cry 3 or 4, how big would you say the difference is? As far as the looting thing goes, it's FAR easier to properly "aim" at a corpse and loot it than in previous FC games. You have to click to loot and press/hold to switch weapons which makes it much less likely to accidentally throw your favorite sniper rifle to the ground and switch to an inferior weapon. Looting money and having to buy ammo. FC 3 and 4 both had the same mechanic. It's nothing new and to me, isn't a problem. The ammo in FC5 seems to be cheaper than in previous games. I played FC4 the other day and I shot a few arrows and it was about $10,000 to refill. Arrows in FC5 are $4 each. I've not had an ammo refill that cost much more than $200 so far. Take a few moments to run over corpses and loot their ammo. Use weapons that correspond to those used by the local enemies. Most where I am use "rifle bullets" and "pistol bullets". My sniper rifle uses regular rifle bullets, as opposed to .50 sniper rounds. I haven't had to buy ammo for it in forever. Use a bow as much as possible. My quiver holds 13 arrows. I can play for hours on those 13. Loot the corpse, get your arrow back. If you miss, watch where it goes. It'll be laying on the ground where it landed. I am thoroughly enjoying the game so far. GAmes nowadays are experiments. AC origins was an experiments to see if people tolerate MT from Ubisoft. They did so they stepped it a bit further in FC5.

Also the grind is not bad if you never buy ammo fr its a big difference if you never buy ammo its a legit trap but there is so many ways to just get ammo never buy it just take guns with a variety of ammo types and switch around as you run out of ammo you will find plenty of ammo. Buying ammo in this game is almost as ludacris as buying ammo in doom

love the review but i felt like some of your points like having to buy ammo and looting enemies for their money was a kinda weak point because those have been in the far cry games since 3 so its kinda weird to here a complaint about systems thats been around for a while that arent that big of a issue. keep up the good work
Just want to say that Ghost Recon Wildlands is a fantastic game. But under one condition: You have to play it in co-op with a friend. The most fun I had in a game since quite a while.
unseenpath Dude, I promise you, they are only cosmetic. There are a bunch of very expensive “prestige" weapons and vehicles that have fancy skins, but these are purchasable with normal currency and they are NOT gated off by real-money paywalls. Besides which, the “prestige vehicles” are just fancy skins on vehicle variants that can be readily found in the gameworld or bought for cheaper from the vendor-minus its silly skin. Sometimes they have the added feature of mounted guns but there are plenty of free, unlockable vehicles with crazy ballistic attachments across all vehicle types (truck, SUV, car, helicopter and planes). As for the guns, again, the prestige guns are just normal guns with fancy skins. AND you can accumulate the wealth to buy them without paying in real cash. The prices seem obnoxious until you figure out that by ransacking prepper stashes and hitting the right hunting/ fishing spots- you can bag yourself enough cash in an hour to EASILY afford 2 or 3 of these prestige guns, with all attachments and even a couple of the vehicles. There is no reason not to buy this game. It is just too good. Do not deprive yourself my friend. You deserve it.
I'm playing this game right now on game pass 2023. Maybe it is much different world today, but for me: 1. Guns feeling isn't grate. Especially with VIP-s, those stoned enemies and for example bears - it feels like bullets doesn't do anything to the target - they should move a bit. 2. Silent hero was never my thing - it is just weird and I don't see a point of it. It is not immersive. 3. Lacks of physics - dead body that slides endlessly from the mountain or airplane that flies like there was no gravity. 4. Yes, ammunition feels oddly expensive - now I know why. 5. Not many mods for weapons. I use AR-C and AR-CL from the beginning and I so no point to change it. Especially that I have no ammo problem because of it and I upgraded those skills so I see no point to change it. I wish there was more customizations. 6. Companions die tooo fast and it would be nice to customize them a little more.

Hey skill up you bring up fair point on the money and monetization of the game. I was wondering what you thought on how it would affect the game if you took out the micro transactions and how that would add to a more survivalist aspect of the game. Or how it would add to the rebellious effort of the game by having and how maybe that would off added to the game or the possible concepts they could of went with that would of made the game better by subtracting the micro transactions and how the micro transactions really subtract from the creativity of creativity because they are too focused on ..,
I had to delay watching this video because I wanted a chance to play the game first. I put about a good 5 hours in so far and I am enjoying it immensely so far. I feel like they took elements from Farcry 2 that I missed and that was the buddy system and incorporated it into the game. I still miss weapon breaking and gun jamming though. I do really enjoy the weapon handling though and as far as single player focus shooters go, Wolfenstein is the only other one that feels just as good.
