To add some context, as I understand it. Uwe Boll didn't quite buy game rights himself In order to make profitable movies from them, as much as they were acquired through a German Government film fund. It's also how he kept making adaptations even after they just kept flopping. It's a way to keep german film crews (and sometimes actors) employed. I may not be completely accurate since I'm paraphrasing from past knowledge.
This movie is dumb in so many ways but that's the part in this video that cracked me up the most. It's both absurd and mundane at the same time and she looks so silly crouched under the tarp
You had the clip from the Seinfeld episode where Kramer drops the candy into the guy during surgery, and it got me to look at the wikipedia article for the episode. The guy getting surgery in the episode also starred in Day of the Dead as the zombie Bub. Which you also referenced later in the video. Is this a coincidence? Lmao, or did you also just look up details of the episode, too? Just caught me off guard to hear the reference after reading it on the guy's wikipedia page.
The game and the movie should have been sold as a bundle inside one of those cardboard sleeves with metallic stamped/raised lettering. Theyre perfect for one another. Both equally cheese and awesome. Though, how does the mind controlled killing machine thing work in the fact that if you need to feed it, it will need to shit. Does the mind controlled freak stop or delay in the middle of a task and spend the next 20 mins wiping away the mudcake from its bloody ring piece? Does the MC freak know the joy of the time saving golden drop? So many questions.
I guess the reason to make jack fight less was to represent the sneaky side of far cry while Max was the guns blazing approach, with what seems to be parts of the plot from far cry intincts because... reasons ? 5/10 movie maybe would watch if im very bored or drunk
"Ghetto level Gina Carano". I think the fervent Trump supporting and Covid denial (which got her kicked off the Star Wars money train) mean that Gina Carano is the Ghetto Gina Carano.
Man Uwe Boll being so bent out of shape over bad reviews that he challenged his critics to a boxing match is one of my favorite WTF moments of 2000s pop culture.
It was a smart move. Kept people talking about him and building up his whole "OH NO UWE BOLL IS MAKING SHITTY MOVIES BASED ON MY BELOVED VIDEO GAMES, HOW DARE HE" reputation.
I still think this was all marketing. His first movies were basicly tax saving schemes for the companies involved, paired with the aim to make as much money as possible with as little effort as possible. Video games where perfect for that, because you could calculate with a certain guaranteed audience and the big IP names were cheap in the early 2000s. He knew his movies were horrible and kept himself in the media by defending them as high art. The boxing matches are only the logical conclusion of this plan. Again, he knew exactly what he was doing and was taking no risks.
Uwe was never intended to be director, he only made movies so he could exploit period of Germans paying with their tax money filmmakers to make movies, in hopes of reviving their cinema, because around that time you didn't have to pay back money if movie flop or performed badly, because point was not profit, but revitalization of German cinema. It's was ripe for loopholes and exploits, and I think I know how they did it.
To me House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark were two "so bad they're good" movies. They were his first ones and were just so laughable it's just hilarious. Later in his career I'd say he got better at actually making movies but this took all the fun out of them and just left us with pretty mediocre films with loose ties to their video game sources.
@@FrederickGuese It's not really a hot take to say that you liked the movie Maybe if you rephrase it to "The movie is good and just misunderstood" then I think it could be classified as a "hot take"
@@trial_with_an_error9687 He actually did challenge somebody of the sort before finding out that the guy was a pretty advanced MMA practitioner. As soon as learned about that tidbit of info, Uwe backtracked fast, like the petty sackless bully he is.
Every german knows not to watch any movie where Uwe Boll or Til Schweiger were involved in. That's among the first things you'll learn in Kindergarten.
Nah , in germany you learn to avoid german family movies. Those movies are much worse than uwe boll creations. They suck so hard they use it as torture methods to punish their people for having better taste in movies , pupils in schools for bad grades and childrens which dont eat their vegetables. Thats why we germans have bad taste in comedy and are fans of S&M.
@@mikehoogstraaten2978 Rampage is actually pretty good. I knew it was Boll film and was going for it for "shits and giggles", but it actually had twist and fairly decent and disturbing plot. Nothing ground breaking, but I was going to trash it anyway in start, but couldn't in the end. Farcry certainly ain't the worst game movie either. Especially comparing to something like Alone in the Dark. Anyway Rampage is something I'd actually pretty much would recommend to see if nothing else comes to mind.
Strange is, as long as it is not related to a game (not sure about postal, cause that is a mixed bag) his stuff should be okay. But he once even mentioned he does game adaptations for the quick buck.
As another factoid, in case the voice sounded familiar to you: The actor who plays Krieger is the actor who also plays everyone's favorite maniacal psychic Yuri in C&C: Red Alert 2 and Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge.
To be fair: he is in everything and depending on that he can be great or just phoning it in. Maybe you can be excused for thinking he isn't a big deal if you only saw him in this and Ace Ventura.
"glass that is made out of sugar" " _Sugar glass (also called candy glass, edible glass, and breakaway glass) is a brittle transparent form of sugar that looks like glass. It can be formed into a sheet that looks like flat glass or an object, such as a bottle or drinking glass_ " -Wikipedia
Yeah, Till Schweiger did a convincing job as a member of the Basterds blasting Nazis almost as well as BJ (till he bit the bucket in that cool scene in the pub)... but well, after the abysmal Doom movie (Chris Rock and Karl Urban save it) let's see who's gonna dare ruin the Wolfenstein franchise next. ??
@@marlonsolleske7466 You are mixing up Dwayne the Rock Johnson and Chris Rock. And nobody saved anything in that movie. But Till Schweiger would probably be a good BJ.
@@Fillthrill yup, thanks for the reminder :D got them mixed up indeed. Yeah, a pity that a series with that kinda impact in game design and culture got that kind representation on the great screen...in the tradition of Super Mario Brothers. And well, BJ, maybe in Schweiger younger years when he was still a bit muscular (though his English might have been a tad crappier than currently XD)
Hold on: Udo Kier is "the dude from Ace Ventura?" Are you kidding? Udo Kier is B-movie royalty, and easily one of the most iconic actors in film history.
My mom worked on this film and was Uwe Boll's go to script supervisor for a few years at the beginning of her career as a script supervisor. She was an animator for years before that, but when she was starting out as a script supervisor some of the first few films she did were Uwe Boll projects lol. She had some interesting story's from set to say the least. She worked on Far Cry, Bloodrayne 2, Postal (uncredited), Rampage (2009), Stoic, The Final Storm and In the Name of the King: Two Worlds. She's worked on a lot of awesome projects since but those are all the Uwe Boll films she was on lol. Some other notable projects she was on.... Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Altered Carbon, The Man in the High Castle, Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, See, Child's Play, The Predator, Skyscraper, Maze Runner: The Death Cure, The 100 and much more. Just felt like mentioning some of the better shit she's worked on as well lmfao
Postal maybe but most of them are honestly just too boring to be so bad they’re good. I was really hoping to ironically enjoy House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark but they just sucked.
The actor who played Max was also in Russell Crowe's Gladiator, he was the bigger gladiator who trains Maximus in that scene where he refuses to fight with the wooden swords.
Möller did appear in some good movies though. But i think the last one i saw him was pathfinder i guess. In " Real life" he is a very symphatic guy. Nice Person. A shame he played in so many Bad movies XD.
Till Schweiger is actually one of the most famous and best earning german movie actors (who haven't made the leap to hollywood that is). So domestically speaking. It's actually quite amazing Boll was able to secure such a big name for his weird project.
LOL it is kinda funny when people make fun of a movie being filmed somewhere that isn't where the story takes place....I think its because they clearly don't have a clue that 99% of movies aren't filmed anywhere remotely near where the story takes place.....Its beyond rare that a movie actually films at the location it claims to be.
well atleast uwe bolls movies are not that known like andersons right. i mean even here in germany nobody knowns really about becaus he lives since over 20 year in cananda and owens as far as i known a pretty okisch german dinner.
To be fair he gets paid by grants from the German government to make shitty movies regardless of if they are profitable or not. He is kind of a genius in that regard.
"Far Cry Experience", man, that is pure gold. they even put the easter egg with related achievement into the game. "Say Hi to the Internet" or something like that
just a shame they didn't fully commit by actually modeling the head of Christopher, because that's ultimately the only thing they had to show, instead they used a generic character model which is a shame.
This movie is not that bad compared to other Uwe Boll movies. The best movie he has ever done is called Rampage and it came out in 2009. That movie was so good I couldn't believe he directed it.
@@_Dat_Edgy_Boi_ Various internet sites tell me this is mostly related to their choice of clothing and that the soldiers are too big to fit in the small tunnels. in terms of actual history it does a pretty good job, no worse than other big budget war movies.
this is the same guy that did rampage? wow thats crazy i remember watching rampage and the 2nd one (i think he made that one too) i knew uwe made far cry from researching it but totally forgot he made the rampage movies those were good movies i will admit
And Hugo Stiglitz, surprise surprise, is inspired by Wolfensteins William "B.J." Blazkowicz. Till could play that character for sure, accent be damned, he looks the part.
@@MentalParadox I don't see how he wasn't inspired by BJ. The way he was introduced and presented to act during the flashbacks alone was full on BJ levels of craziness, and looks. Even if it was subconscious, maybe the actor took inspiration, but there definitely was.
Yup, this brings back awful memories. I was just a kid and went to the cinema with a friend of mine, of course we had to see far cry, the game was awesome after all. Boy we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. But even as 13 year olds we knew: "Yea, we just witnessed a complete shitshow and a sorry excuse of a movie".
The first time I had that experience was with the Eragon Movie. I was just a kid but, read the books but suddenly realized that a movie based on those books doesn't make it good automatically
Mine is "The Last Airbender", that pathetic excuse of an adaptation by M,night Shamalayan (seriously I hate that guy) and a complete insult towards the actual animated show which is almost a masterpiece.
Yes, Don Davis is forever Hammond in my eyes. Even in old MacGyver episodes where he plays a villain and a cement truck driver, I still think of him as Hammond :D
Uwe Boll once said in an interview: "i never played video games and i couldnt care less about them, but i just knew i could make a bunch of money with movies based on them." he is brutaly honest, you gotta give him that! BTW Uwe Boll lives in Vancouver, i guess thats somehow the reason they filmed it there + he also has some restaurants there which are running pretty well, at least thats what i heard.
@@gaussminigun7095 Postal is like the bad on purpose type thing like Super Fast, Super Furious, at least I think it is, Rampage, the first two at least, are just good. I think you can watch the full Rampage movie in HD on RU-vid as well, though it may have been deleted. Postal is on Amazon Prime Video.
@@gaussminigun7095 Check out Rampage. I'd give it easily 7/10. By far the best Boll movie. I began to look it for "shits and giggles", but in the end I couldn't trash it. I was very highly surprised about it. Actually characters, plot with bit of an twist and most stuff that make movies worth watching.
Rampage was as terrifying as it set out to be. Nick Stahl and Michael Pare are VERY good in it. Postal is a ballsy, unapologetic parody. You know within the first scene whether you can hang with it. Both of them surprised the heck outta me.
I had no idea this movie existed. When I clicked on this video I assumed that it was a new movie, until I saw general Hammond from Stargate who's actor Don Davis died the same year this movie was released. And then there was Anthony Bourdain LOL.
Let's talk about the parallels between Jack Carver in this movie to another Jack from my favorite movie of all time; Jack Burton from Big Trouble in Little China. They both are uniquely underwhelming in their respective universes yet their presence is required for the events to unfold. Jack Carver and Jack Burton are human McGuffins. They are both simultaneously the focal point of the movie and certainly not the protagonists. Jack Carver, while present, contributed very little to what unfolded although it could be argued that his arrival acted as a catalyst and setting in motion the events of the movie. Carver: 1. Owns a boat. 2. Knows Max. That is essentially what he brings to the Vancouver Monster Island table. Max does all the heavy lifting and then dies. In the same vein, Jack Burton's chief contributions in Big Trouble in Little China are: 1. Owning a truck. 2. Killing Lo Pan. That's basically it. Wang Chi is clearly the protagonist of Big Trouble in Little China as it is his motivation (rescuing kidnapped fiancée) that ultimately drives them to confront the Wing Kong and by extension, Lo Pan. Jack's truck being stolen only serves as a reason to place it at the end of the movie, which is also equally pointless for reasons I won't go into here. I love both movies, but you gotta accept the fact that movies are dumb if you want to be entertained.
he is very much hated in germany tho people joke a lot about how most the movies he directed are just award baits without any actual value behind them yet he pretends like he is some kind of underated master director aso more like the kanye west of germany
some of his movies were pretty successful in germany, kokowäh, keinohrhasen, honig im kopf, der eisbär, knocking on heavens door etc the main reason people on the internet dislike him, is because.... well, the internet... it just became a "thing" to hate him. he's not the best actor and the way he talks is kinda weird, but he's by far not the untalented idiot people want him to be
I've seen that film and always get nervous about a movie that starts off with a 9/11 joke. I was sixteen when the Twin Towers fell and never like it when someone tries to play the deaths of nearly 3000 people for laughs. That being said, the joke *was* funny, but only for those with the nastiest sense of humour ever.
I love Uwe Boll. Not as a director, but a guy who refuses to give up on his dreams and keep doing what he loves. Though 2016 was his last movie, so I guess his time is up.
Apparently since 2016 he has be involved in the production of a couple that have been released, is also credited with writing and directing one in post production, and already has another in pre production he has writing and directing credits.
Shame, there seems to be some good gore special effects in this movie. Still i think Uwe is kinda the lovable uncle that makes weird video game movies that everyone would love to have.
I remember watching this back in the day after playing Far Cry Instincts on Xbox. I couldn't believe how bad it was. They couldn't even get the tropical island right.
I remember watching this movie when I was young and being excited. And watching it thinking wtf is this. But his tunnel Rats movie wasn’t too bad though.
