Did you know electric powered vehicles were actually tried and used over 100 years ago, and were given up for exactly the same reasons as today. Quite incredible considering all our advancements in technology, but changes in batteries are down to CHEMISTRY. And not for trying either, mobile phone companies have also invested endless amounts trying to find a breakthrough in battery tech but to no avail. Because rechargeable batteries need to be replaced sooner that even he thought and he has a warehouse full of batteries. That there is no way of disposal of them. Scientist are working on a salt water rechargeable battery. However it is a long way off.

Elon Musk has stated several times that battery storage on a industrial scale (or national grid level) is currently not posable because of the speed of degradation of the battery and cost of them being manufactured along with limited resources and cost to build, and needed to be replaced after such a short amount of time like every few years. To give you a rough idea Stord energy from wind or solar into a battery on a commercial national grid level supplying millions of homes and hundreds of factories etc etc would increase the production cost of energy from between 10-50 plus times the current market rate, could you imagine batteries the size of buildings having to be manufactured and replaced every few years, it is just utter madness and financial idiocy. I'm not an expert, but I will take the knowledge and expertise of the for most expert on battery design and production Elon Musk over a Labour politician or paid committee. Try running an industrial smouldering plant on wind and battery power making it financially competitive to the market, good luck with that.
