I've heard that cash is almost not used in the UK. Nearly all transactions are done digitally, and no other way, with the possible exception of purchases from street carts. This got me thinking that something like this could happen, because if the only way to buy or sell is digitally, then a bank could just turn that off with a switch, even under gov't agency control. The advantage of cash, and cash acceptance, is that commercial transactions are decentralized. What we should have is the ability for our digital transactions to be done the same way, but right now, we don't. I know people talk about crypto being decentralized, but I've heard that in truth it isn't, because the value of crypto depends on consensus. You can't decouple your crypto from the rest of the community.

So, if you're trying to invest in businesses with actual growth, looking at dividends is a waste of time. Why are you investing into a company if they're returning capital to you because they think you can make better use if it than they can. It's not much different from bond investing. The way I see it, if you have a $1 million at some point, that'd be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between 50k - 70k in dividend income...

As a former compliance officer, the whole PEP thing raises a flag on your account which means a much closer scrutiny of source of funds and movements, but not necessarily that you cannot have an account, though it IS harder. You have to wonder where all the politicians and their families or the people that work for them have their accounts if the banks do not accept any PEP related accounts at all. And if and when the world phases out actual CASH or paper currency and switches to digital currency, all they have to do to totally isolate you is freeze your account with one click and you won’t even be able to buy food, tickets to anywhere, since there will only be digital currency used everywhere. That is what is so frightening. I trust with your attorney’s assistance you will be able to get some answers but it is a shame that you have to be forced to go that route.

Your case sounds similar to a case in New Zealand. There is a national security law where the banks can be orderded to close your accounts and the bank is PROHIBITED FROM TELLING YOU WHY. BUT 3rd parties can find out. It is illegal for you (victim) to be told due to national security. A perfect cover for an intelligence bungle as it turned out.

If you're the kind of person who receives payments that your bank perceive as putting them at risk of falling foul of anti-corrption law then yes, you're exposed to. The banks (all the ones he approached) are more interested in avoiding fines and other sanctions than they are at making money from his assets. That should inform you.

Some twenty years ago my bank accounts were closed for no apparent reason. However, the reason became apparent a few months later when I was raided and arrested by the police on suspicion of deception. During their investigation, the police had apparently been to my bank and they had spoken to the bank manager about their suspicions and as a result, the bank manager closed my accounts to cover his ass: The bank manager did not want to be accused later on of money laundering. Anyhow, I think it is possible the same thing has happened here and Mr Farage might well find himself being raided and charged shortly with some kind of financial crime. I hope not and wish him luck.
