Farba Tela, real name Oumar Seck, was perhaps the most popular of all Fulbé musicians in West Africa. Ali Farka Touré was a big fan, and the two musicians share an intensity, presence and unique musical style. See • Farba Téla, “Niina” (1... for more.
The man in the orange suit, who appears at 8'25", is the group's "impresario". At 8'46" he appears to waggle his finger at Farba, who is playing the electric guitar, and points to a hoddu. He then takes a hoddu off a musician and gives it to Farba to play. Farba's riffs on the hoddu are amazing and really excite the crowd, and I have never heard a more receptive and enthusiastic audience at any Palais du Peuple concert.
