Addressing a session at India Today Group's Conclave Pop-up: Election Special, veteran journalist and geopolitical expert Fareed Zakaria shared his views on Lok Sabha elections, India-US ties and on a host of issues.
On India's multi-aligned foreign policy, he said, "India would benefit enormously if it were more solidly aligned with the West, with the free world, with the democratic world. And it would reap enormous rewards technologically, in commercial terms, but also culturally."

Fareed , give us a break. There was deification of Gandhi & Nehru to an unbelievable extent. Everything from scholarships to bridges, roads, medical & educational institutions, think tanks bear the Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi (both PM's) & even Sanjay Gandhi [SanjayGandhi National Park at Thane] the infamous black sheep of the family the man responsible for forced sterilisation of lakhs of Indians in Uttar Pradesh Pradesh during the Emergency. Nehru, Indira Gandhi & Rajiv Gandhi were awarded themselves the nations's highest honour, the Bharat Ratna even when they were in office. In contrast, Modi has not given himself a Bharat Ratna. All Govt. Schemes are called Pradhan Mantri (PM)Yojana. The only infrastructure that bears his name is a cricket stadium in Gujarat. If course his photo does appear in the context of many schemes. Hardly surprising in the Indian political context, where every party, including regional parties do so to a far greater extent. Please do get your facts right.

I strongly disagree with Zakaria on reason for fall in BIDEN's popularity. It has nothing to do with cultural politics. "Its still economics stupid", economics of inequality precisely.

Zakaria saying " India needs US more than US needing India" Crap assessment..one made based on prejudice !!! Both need each other...but ..the US is no longer strong enough to fight another major power like China on their own...they know it and so need India although old habits die hard.. on and off their proclivity for domination comes to the fore...and then suddenly reality hits them when they find themselves unable to dominate the relationship. Just analyse the volleys going back and forth between the US and India and place that alongside the US behaviour in the past when they were a very strong nation and India was relatively weak.

Modi is true Indian, without adulteration of western or Islamic or Abrahamic thought. He is native Bharatiya. He makes the Bharat proud but India feels let down. It is Bharat vs India. Bharath is winning, which is great, Sanatanis feels great. Modi is not so called religious but he is is sanatani with Bharatiya's culture You can see with native cultural values like touching feet, showing respect and many behavioral things. Many of the middle class feel connected.

Zakaria should comment on the state of democracy in his own country . America business should invest in latin america, see them as being a very progressive society and its anti establishment and they making very big changes in privatising their public sector and not wanting to hand it out to one or two business conglomerates. Wish much love and sucess to latin american people. Argentina is a fertile country making big changes away from peronuisim.
