News 2017: After years of decay the QE2 is actually undergoing work to become a centerpiece of a new marina in Port Rashid, Dubai. This is a several year project. The plan is on show, but details of the refit of QE2 are kept secret from the public, but photos show that something is going on. Of course we can't be absolutely sure before this project is completed but for now NO SCRAPPING is in sight!
Greetings from Scotland. ..was on the ship in 1980....pure class and service second to none. ..can remember it like yesterday ..a proper old school liner, not like today's floating apartments. .the end of an era. ..thanks for the memories Qe2,a grand lady indeed
@@boataxe4605 Cunard still had staff employed on the ship when the ship came into Long Beach in December 1967-1968. The ship was briefly laid up in 1968. There hadn't been any renovation work that had been done on the ship at that point so he could have been part of the maintenance crew that were being relocated to other Cunard ships such as QE2 or laid off. Cunard likely had crew responsible for shutting down the ship and making sure it was in good condition for Long Beach to start the renovation process. Either way, when the original RMS Queen Elizabeth turned into the Seawise University. The owners of Seawise University rehired some of the former workers such as the chief engineer who had worked for Cunard. Not entirely sure what happened to the staff on Queen Mary but likely, that could have happened.
