What A Great Video, I was A Mackinac for some forty years on cars and Outboard Motors Johnson and Evinrude now am 80 years old in a wheelchair so your video,s brings back a lot of good memberys thank you very much!!!
That little tractor is a keeper, sounds like she loves to run and is in beautiful shape for a nearly 70 year old machine, much better condition than my 68 year old body. Your girlfriend's face when she first drove it was priceless, she's a keeper too!
The International Harvester Super A was a work horse in its day. I raked many acres of hay with the Super A, pulling hay wagons and it worked well connected to the milking vacuum system when thunderstorms knocked out the power. A neighboring farmer bailed his hay with his Super A. Your video brings back old memories working on my uncles farm.
You can center your implement up on your drawbar. The pto driveshaft can be at an angle with no problem. That is what the u-joints are designed for. This video really made me smile to see. I love those old tractors and to see one back in use is great.
Get them both!!! I would have poured a couple gallons of diesel through the top of the engine to dilute some of that sludge. First put half and half diesel and oil and run it a little. Won't hurt anything. Then drain and refill with good oil. That is a good straight tractor. The tires are worth half the value of the tractor. Few odds and ends and some tlc and it will be a good tractor for Victoria...
I love to see tractor restorations, at least restored enough to run and have new life. Let's see, I was born in '51 and I'm 72 so your tractor is 70 years old. Cheers from eastern TN
The owner is right/ 50%. Those tractors are fantastic. I pulled a Farmall Cub out of the woods and got it running years back. I learned all about tractors and Farmall and being a mechanic, told my wife “ I’m going to get it running “! She said “I’ll bet you will “, long story…. 3 tractors and everyone calls me Tractor Dave! There addicting, Note: I do own 18 acres of woods. The are awesome to use.
I like Victorias style.. ""Fill it up all the way and then off in 4th Gear" That's something we must see.. Well done guys, it's great to see these old timers back at work.
Update May 2023: I have purchased a manure spreader, almost similar as yours, bit larger but still a fairly common one over here. Works like a charm! :D I got it BECAUSE OF YOU! :D. Thank you so much for the inspiration. I hope you'll have many good runs with this adoring Super A.
this vid just came on my home feed, saw the CT plate and then the girl all about the tractor and said to myself gotta be from Durham, sure enough i was right lol, greetings from North Branford
Those Little A Farmalls are handy and durable tractors. We have three of the Farmall A's in the collection. Two are regular A's and both have busted blocks from rain getting in the exhaust and freezing. The third is a super A like yours. It has a 59 inch woods belly mower. And I swapped the engine. It now has a engine from a 200 that has a M&W increased bore sleeve and piston kit. Plenty of power. We used to haul with a 66 ford F600 with a dovetail and a 40,000 pound PTO winch. However insurance began to cost more than we wanted to pay. So we now use a tilt top trailer. I just subscribed.
It's called a Belly Mower on the Massy. FYI... The Super A side seat was designed to cultivate and allow the operator to look directly at the dirting sweeps. You could do a lot to clean a grassy crop with that rig. Even today, it works great for small food plots that you want to farm without herbicides. You might ask if there is a cultivator out the weeds somewhere that goes with it.
First gear and let the Ole girl sing. Them small pull behinds need all the rpms you can throw at it to spread good. Love the setup though. Can't beat a old farmall.
Nice tractor 20 years ago I used to have a formal M good old tractor always start sold it because I didn’t have no use for it but we’re in the process of moving again and I’ll be getting another tractor 🤣
Persistence pays off. Flush the gas tank. Tribute to the family members that maintained that beauty. They knew how to treat their equipment. Keep it going. Head mounted go pro would help your filming.
Kudos to Victoria! She did extremely well for her first time! That’s a sweet tractor. I’m impressed how straight and in good shape it is for it’s age! Thanks for sharing.
Good vid and good memories. I drove a similar (Cub) for my grandpa about 65 years ago. No hydraulics but a sweet little tractor. Great experience for a rural kid.
Yeah my dad worked I ate and made parts after that year and stuff for him tractors all that yeah I remember my day used to talk about making parts for all kind of ice tractors thank you any work in Springfield Ohio
That is so cool. I learned how to drive one of those in 1966 when I was 5 yrs old on my grandparents farm. I pulled the hay wagon when my grandparents loaded it. My other grandfather had a 130 which was supposed to be the commercial version. That brings back memories. When I was 6, I wrapped one into a tree discing our yard. Bent the tie rod. Dad then taught me how to use the turning brakes.
Great find and a great video! You may want to check the left and right differentials as they probably have to be drained separately. You have a lot of great knowledge regarding that tractor! Keep em coming!
Sweet find - congratulations- i have completely restored 2 old farmalls - 1 a 130 and other same as yours a super A- bit of advice- change the oil in the final drives - What i do with mine is when i am done using it and it’s going to sit for several months- I turn the engine by hand (fan blades) and set the points so they are opened- i have found the corrode if left closed- to do it- park it- shut off fuel- put in neutral - turn ignition on- Grab fan blade and very slowly turn engine until Amp meter goes back to the middle & turn ignition back off-( Batt. not discharging from points being closed) - and when it’s time to fire it up- turn fuel and ignition on and 1/2 choke and start her up-
great video guys enjoyed watching nice old tractor I have a 1953 super A also was my Dad's he got it 57 have a back mower and two sod plow for it haven't had it running for a couple years it's always stored in side needs new tires and the gas tank cleaned used it in the woods a couple years ago have to crank it to start usually one flip and it starts good job getting it going and changing the fuilds nice old tractor and I also liked the cabover freightliner sitting in the yard was truck driver for almost 50 years thanks for sharing take care enjoyed watching
Great job bringing that old girl back to life! Don't forget to service the spreader too! Grease it and buy some spray chain lube for the chain! When you are done using it for the season, power wash it off really good, and grease and lube the chain before you store it! Save you a lot of grief next spring!
Nice looking tires on the rear, she got 50% of tractor stuff nice he knows how to get more out of his tractor 🚜, lolol and Victoria did an amazing beautiful job, thanks BigAl California
They only lie when it need to get out of his way in his shop , lol nice love this vlog thanks I can’t wait till you get her on camera on her tractor, nice thanks BigAl California
This actually makes my heart happy. You guys are such an amazing couple. That smile on her face as she was driving that around can never be replicated. Good job. Ps, always glad to see you guys on here.
these "A" model tractors were originally designed for cultivating corn hence the high ground clearance and offset driving position...I had the cultivator bars for mine but I never grew enough corn to make it worth setting up the cultivators ...but I plowed and disked my garden and cut firewood ... the PTO can run a circular bucksaw... and scraped my driveway in winter and a hundred other chores ...a great little tractor ... there is no dipstick ... there are two valves open the lower one oil should come out ..open the upper one oil should Not come out ... the radiator is NOT pressurized so the cap does not seal .... a rag would work as well
Suggest you do a soak carburetor with kit, take gas tank of and steam clean. Change to 12 volt alternator, change to 12 volt coil, same starter, go to negative ground. Complete new electrical wiring, new switches. Flush cooling system, check condition of transmission, rear end lube. You might try putting on a swinging drawbar. Next up,have her load it by hand with a fork/scoop, so that she really appreciates the loader.
Nice tractor, be careful using it with a lot of weight hooked on it. The actual drawbar is not on the tractor. It is connected to a bar that goes between the final drives in front. Those tractors had a habit of cracking the rear housings. The bar helps prevent that. The actual drawbar is attached to the bar and swings on what you are using as the drawbar. I hope you can find and install that. I love the video and seeing your lady so happy!
my dad had one exactly like that i remember they literaly tore it down rebuilt it was direytly in half replaced all seals fluids etc they used it to pull the hay raake ad manure spreader they my nom had horses so they bailed over a 100 acres farmall is a simple but strong work horse
Do you remember what I told you ?? , if you need to check for water that can’t be seen by the naked eye , you get some of the oil in question, and pot it on some thin metal and hold it I’d fire 🔥, If it has water in it it will steam out , and it will sound like bacon 🥓 friying, lol nic3 remember that now , thanks BigAl California.
What a fun video! I love how you will just jump right in and start fixing anything, your skill shows and I am always confident you’re going to get it going. I think your GF is a keeper. When two people can enjoy each other and the daily activities you all do it makes for a good match. Peace
Realy thank you i learn 4 things After just look inside that nice video thank you it's good video for my help too. , i gone try To repair my old engin // that is a good things for myself 🙏
Great little tractor we have had one for many years. However check the oil in the final drives right out by the rear tires ours gets water in those and freeze in winter.
