Everyone is in such a rush. You want to live in a village then you have to respect rural life and how farms work. I guess they may also complain about noisy chickens and church bells!!

Always love watching combines working.Back in 1975 as a 19 yr old I drove my first combine, a Massey Ferguson 625, no air conditioned cabs then.2 Massey 188 on the trailers .Great memories..

Good to see you have started harvest Andrew, it was my biggest bug bearer when I drove balers when the combine just turned and put straw everywhere. It is nice to know some people do think of the the following operation, only wish I could be following your combine . Hope your yields get better on the heavier land. be nice to have small updates through out the harvest .

Brilliant to see a combine driver thinking about the baler man. I had many a year messing about on headlands trying to gather up all those thin "S" shaped swathes.

Cracking. Always like this time of the year. I'm glad you mentioned turning out of the rows on the headlands. There are plenty of clips out there where as soon as the last sheath is taken up by the header the driver i swinging the back end round and leaving that S shape. I feel sorry for the baler driver who has to follow them. Updates- Little and often will do us. We know time is pressing for you.

Superb update! I love seeing combines at work, would love to ride on one. Never seen the attaching and detaching of header and fitting on header trailer. I play Farming Simulator a lot,and assumed that in real life it would be much more difficult! I love how you always show the nitty gritty of arable farming. Rode past Bailey Trailers factory on the train a couple of days ago they certainly make a lot of them. 😀

Really enjoyed that, it was Dad's world and he would have loved this. My memories are of five giant Claysons going around the field outside our house in formation. That probably gives Dad's employer away but I don't think that matters. They also used to take two combines to Burton Coggles from Welton! Dad said that wasn't popular especially through Lincoln, no by-pass in those days, via Monks road I think as some inconsiderate Romans stuck a ruddy great arch at the top of Lindum hill!

Great content from a former cereal farmer of the year I believe?👍 Having been part of well over 50 harvests- I drove a MF 500 for my first full harvest in 1975 at the age of 15, I marvel at the sheer scale, & technological advancement that we see today. The latest combines cut nearly 20 meter swaths and harvest hundreds of tonnes per days. The incredible efficiency that, in just a few brief properly dry days, sees hundreds of thousands of tonnes safely harvested and stored by a fraction of the country’s population is a massive accomplishment. This ability is becoming particularly important as we take on the effects of global warming and disrupted weather patterns.

Andrew, yes, more updates during the week & about the same length as this is good for me. Keeping the straw rows straight means the baler gets more of it, & you have less to deal with in following cultivations, regards, Tim Whitehead

I am on a baler again for this harvest and it does make a difference if the combine driver slows down and let most the straw come out the combine before turning. Also it would be interesting to know the difference in fuel consumption on the combine. Leaving it in rows rather than chopping it should save you a fair bit of fuel🙂

Fascinating to watch! Nice surprise to see an update so early in the week! The present Mrs Rob has made me leave Lincolnshire, Apple Macs and magazine production kicking and screaming for a week away in Northumberland. We’re staying in a lovely place surrounded by wheat fields, as yet uncombined… few more up and downy bits around here, mind you. I’m hoping that harvest will continue back in Lincolnshire for a few weeks and it won’t all be done whilst I’m away!

Um and I was thinking not a lot of residual in the JCB handy to have in the shed just for when needed,dropping down to one wheeled tractor could be testing,combine will be using a lot less fuel this year,good point from James Peck re invest straw money into organic muck.
@Twidile1
@Twidile1 2 месяца назад
Make a different spout for the end of auger , so the tractor and trailer doesn't drive over straw. you have enough room between the header and straw bout. a wet night then the straw will probably need tedded

In Norway we have essentially two qualities of wheat; milling wheat, for making bread etc and feed wheat, for sheep, pigs, cattle etc. Wheat with hl/kg lower than 76 kg/hl will be payed of as feed wheat. Is it the same limit you refer to at 72 kg/hl? 72 and above equals milling wheat for bread making etc? Appreciate your videos - good luck with the harvest!

I had 3 farms up to 18 miles apart , all cereals etc . The A 6 , and the A 45 plus local roads . However long it took I was never as totally rude and inconsiderate, , not to mention illegal as the combine driver from your village , holding up probably 50 or more vehicles behind him . Absolutely disgraceful , and selfish behavior . He should be prosecuted . I NEVER EVER allowed more than 3 / 4 vehicles to follow me . 😤
@WardysWaffleAndrewWard
@WardysWaffleAndrewWard 2 месяца назад
3-4 vehicles? We’d never move. The A17 is the busiest single carriage way A road in the country. He’d been in the road less than a mile and he was turning off the A17 just past our yard, not selfish at all

Some people have no common sense unfortunately Andrew. Can't consider a wide machine would struggle to get off the road and still allow two lanes off traffic to pass. Plus as you said, he was only going a mile or so not ten, also its a few times a year, not everyday. I wonder if he'd be grateful of a tow when and if it snows or the farmer clearing a fallen tree after a storm? Such anger at A few extra minutes to a journey.
