Great points Julie. Thank you so much for your mentorship. I just want to add that not always black and white. There are shades of grey in this particular topic. What if you have to let a manager go or he/she resigns due to personal reasons or change in circumstances? These things happen. You will have to hire a new manager. As you mentioned, the owner communicates more with the farm manager. In a situation where the owner hires a new manager and there are farm workers already, it's good idea to have an official introduction meeting to introduce the new manager to the existing farm workers. Then excuse the manager to speak with the farm workers to keep them focused on the direction of the company and sneak in a few words to remind them of the Manager's role to hire and terminate workers. That will set the tone for acceptance of the new manager and also encourage the farm workers to behave themselves. If they don't well they know the manager will take action and the owner will not interfere. It's all about using diplomacy, tact, fostering a respectful and peace led work environment.
