Constant velocity joint has broken a many pto shafts. The weight of them is the culprit I think. Never broke a shaft without one but replaced many that were using one. I'll never have one hooked up to one of my tractors ever again.
@@AndyFromm ok, cause I’m restoring my 806 and I’m gonna take the PTO apart once I get back to the shop, but I was just wondering cause I’m worried if it’s 160+ pounds my 13 year old back might not hold lol
@@30acreshop_time oh it feels like 200+ I'd recommend a hand. I have a later 1086 pto video, same thing but I built a different tool for compressing the springs.
So I'm changes clutches hopefully tonight but curious just because I don't know I see you pulled two snap rings a small and large the smalle held the spring in place but if I were to change just the clutches to I need to depress the spring or can you just pull the large ring and replace the clutches or is that spring gonna send everything flying if I do that
It's been a few months since I worked on one of these and I haven't done many. If i remember correctly you can remove the clutches without a press. Try pressing them down by hand and see if they move. If they move down I'd think you should be good.
I hope you're still on youtube. When putting the PTO back in, how do you make sure the shaft lines up? I am having difficulty putting the PTO back in the tractor. Maybe it is no the shaft, but that is the only thing I can think it can be. One more question. How critical is it to use IH HiTrans opposed to any HiTrans? Thank you for you time.
I replied to your other comment before this but your tractor doesn't have a hole behind the 3pt link? The hydraulic fluid debate... I'm sure my brother has always used ih hitrans and he hasn't had much to any trouble but I have been running used cenex quiklift because I'm cheap. I got 240 gallons for $1 per gallon. Most specs on oils/fluids are pretty simular but each has their own secret sauce. Hydraulic fluid can be quite expensive but I'd recommend a quality brand like case or cenex. Cenex will warranty your equipment if you have qualified equipment and take samples. I think it has to bales pretty new equipment.

OK... Help me out here Andy. I've never worked on one of these, and I'm not familiar enough with the design. So I'm not confident I follow how this animal works You've got TWO PTO shafts because it offers more speed options, correct? It DOES have clutches,( and they're pretty new too) and they're designed to help keep these types of breaks from happening, correct? (assuming "yes" is the answer to both questions) You still ended up with a sheared shaft because of : #1: a possible fault in the shaft #2: clutches didn't slip enough #3: nothin's perfect and crap happens? 😜
@@kenthawkins2418 on tractors with "live power" there is power coming in directly from the engine to the pump on the pto. when the pto lever is engaged, the pto oil pump sends oil to the piston. the piston applies pressure on the clutches starting everything turning. my m does not have live power so on that, it uses the transmission clutch to disengage the power. when running something like a mower with alot of rotating mass, the mower will push the tractor when the clutch is depressed. the pto and transmission are essentially "joined at the hip" sharing the same clutch. on live pto they have separate clutches.
