Thank you for sharing your adventure! So interesting to see a historical peaceful town with many treasures. Red Wall Bookshop is wonderful and I agree with you, there is a charm and a character in independent bookshops. It seems to me that the weather is very hot and the sun is rather cruel, but I see that almost everyone is in a jacket or a coat. Have a very good week!

Helllo @Daria-4215! Lovely to hear from you. Lancefield does have many treasures, both natural and man-made. It is a wonderful place to explore. We are in Autumn at the moment, so the days can be warm but time spent in the shadows, or in the early morning/evening, can be cool and the occasional breeze does also cool the day down a bit. You will start seeing us all in coats and raincoats fairly soon! Thank you so much for watching and commenting. The fact that you take time to do so is very much appreciated. It is always exciting to hear from you. Take care, Happy reading and safe travels ABT

It definitely is, @aussieoutlawalt8411. Just driving around the farmland, wineries and general area of the town, is delightful. A super place to discover and connect with. Thank you, again, for watching and commenting. It is great to hear from you. There is so much more to discover in Victoria alone! Happy reading and safe travels.

Hello James, Thank you again, for watching. Lancefield is a lovely town and often overlooked, I think. It has interesting history and the market is fabulous. We shall return to the area in the future, to discover more. Happy reading and safe travels ABT

Thank you for a lovely travel video, Lancefield is lovely, such beautiful houses. I understand you couldn't leave the red door bookshop without buying something (and having to go back for those Penguins!!). I love Andre Aciman's 'Call Me By Your Name',I did not know he had a new book out,I'm curious what you'll say about it tomorrow in the book video 🤓 Yay for going back and buying that bird book for yourself for Christmas, that's the best idea 💕 I do volunteer for that lovely chocolate if not to many others haven't already 😊 I'm a big chocoholic and I eat it every day,but only 2 squares as a treat. I have never had Australian chocolate so I'm very interested in trying (if it's not too expensive to ship!). You are making me very curious about the surprise you have for us!!!! 🤩 Looking forward to your Monday book video, that's tomorrow already 🥳 Thank you for taking us to lovely Lancefield 👍🏼

Anne! You are always welcome to these videos! I make them hoping you all, will enjoy and find them interesting. Will send you the chocolate in the next few months (I will have to go to the next market, when I can). The 'surprise' is the locations and things we will see over the coming months. I am hoping you will enjoy. It is Monday here already, (early hours). Book recommendations to come! See you then!

Oh wow.. Bespoke Preserves is owned by Tina who won the Australian Women in Beekeepers honey tasting competition. She has an amazing pallet and if you ever have a chance to try her jams as well, she is a magician with blending flavours.

Waggle and Forage! You are correct! I am always so focused on filming, asking permission to film, getting everyone's details, then editing etc that I often miss who, what, where, why.. Tina has amazing quality preserves and cordials. They really do taste divine. Happy reading and safe travels. ABT

Good video, but as a local I hasten to add; * Ned Kelly didn't rob the Lancefield bank ... that is Furphy ; * You showed the old Shamrock Hotel but missed its connection to the Ned Kelly saga and Const. Fitzpatrick ; * Lancefield has a connection to the Boer War saga of 'Breaker' Morant. G.R. Witton was one of the co-accused along with Morant and Handcock. Witton was sent to prison in the UK and released in 1904. He returned to Australia and lived in Lancefield and wrote his angry book, "Scapegoats of the empire" [1907]. His house still stands in Lancefield. * And... and the video missed the Lancefield bakery, the current drawcard for tourists, townies and visitors as their pies, pasties and breads are the best. P.S. I enjoyed your visit to Dunolly.

Hello Tony, Thank you for joining the channel. I am afraid I am beholden to the research resources I conduct. I shall check them again in relation to the Ned Kelly/bank robbery saga and the connection to the hotel, but thank you for bringing this matter to my attention. The channel is all about books, bookshops and libraries and so we visit Australian towns in order to find these book related places. We do not necessarily film everything in a town or if we do, occasionally the footage does not always work out or look its best and so the videos do not always show a town in its entirety. The videos are to pique viewers interest to visit a town and continue their own exploration. We do not profess to give an exhaustive history of a town. As I have also stated in earlier videos, we will return to all of the towns visited, once we have exhausted our trip of Australia, looking for bookshops and libraries. We hope you continue to enjoy the channel. Happy reading and safe travels ABT

Hello again Tony, Having read your message, I was concerned that I had given incorrect information in the video and so I conducted further investigation into both the video and my research. If you carefully read the subtitle that is under the footage of the bank, I have stated that Ned Kelly was once 'accused' of robbing the bank, which he was, in newspapers of the time which are readily available to researches. It is not stated, that he did rob the bank, just that he was accused of doing so. As I stated in my first reply to you, these videos are not all inclusive and comprehensive, in sites or history. They are aimed to pique viewers interest, but are really designed to show a little of Australia, whilst on the look-out for anything book related. Thank you once again for watching the videos and commenting. We appreciate your views. ABT

@@AustralianBookTravels-ii8iy Thanks for your replies. I enjoy your videos and I noted your qualification 'accused'; but there were often claims that Kelly was in Lancefield, normally spun to visitors by some of the old timers. As for Fitzpatrick's undoing in the Shamrock Hotel little is written, except a police report that when stationed in the village, he associated with the lowest class of people [mainly the Irish workers on the railway]. He was dismissed from the force after being discovered, during a police raid, naked in the hotel's chimney. My farming family's connection to Lancefield is well over 120 years and these stories are handed down. As a book person you may find that G R Witton's 'Scapegoats of the empire' is a great read, if you can locate a reprinted [1982] copy. Keep up your good, informative and enjoyable work.

@@tonyfromaustralia21 Thank for the feedback and your kind words. I am of the understanding that Constable Fitzpatrick was actually bullied out of the police force and the Kelly gang were happy to spread a few unsubstantiated rumours about him to help the force be rid of him. There is a research paper that I read about an enquiry in to his conduct and subsequent dismissal. I believe the people of Lancefield signed two petitions to the Inquiry supporting Fitzpatrick, saying that his conduct was exemplary and they considered him an honest and diligent officer, but the upper rank of the police force took a dislike to him and wanted him dismissed even if it took lies and set ups to get him out. I am also of the understanding that Ned Kelly was never in Lancefield or certainly I cannot find documentation to support any claim of him being in the town. The paper reported that Ned robbed the bank but then quickly changed its reporting to blame Captain Midnight, then again to report that it was, in fact, two locals that robbed the bank. Thank you once again for joining the channel and watching the videos. We hope you continue to enjoy them Happy reading and safe travels ABT
