I have been binge-watching your videos for the last 3 days. I really enjoy seeing you and your dad interacting. He's a funny guy. If you run out of ideas for videos I have a suggestion. Pick a piece of equipment, including your tractors, and explain the parts, how it operates, and what it's for. My farming had all been with a small tractor and all the large equipment fascinates me. Keep up the good work.

Next time, try some compressed air up the hose to clear it out. It worked for me a number of times and beats having to take it all apart. Thanks for the great videos!

That was interesting about the spray for the fly's, there seem so many different ways of treating fly problems, but i liked this the best. And good going with the Dakota Gold, you really have calmed them down loads.

Brian, do you remember the oil dispensers that hung from 2 poles and the cattle would walk underneath and their backs would get oil to fight the flies?

@@briansonne814 I still remember the handheld sprayer, it had a barrel shaped container and a pump that pressurized the barrel that was also used to spray the cattle especially the milk cows. I remember that tail hitting me in the face as I was milking. Also, are your Angus traceable to the Erdmann Angus? He was a dairy farmer near Wetonka, SD back in the '50s who decided to see what he would come up by breeding Aberdeen Angus to Holsteins until he got purebred Aberdeen Angus blood. He ended up with a rangy animal, unlike a true compact Aberdeen Angus. He and his sons eventually held bull and heifer sales during the pheasant season, which brought in buyers from across the country.

I just got this picture in my head cattle hauling hind parts across the pasture at a dead run, your dad in road gear one hand on the roof one hand on the steering wheel fan running wide open. And your dad going”DAMMIT BESSIE.......,! THIS IS FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!!!!” Always amazed at how easy things become when you work cattle through their stomachs.

I can't pinpoint the exact date when Purina come out with a spray concentration that would kill these flies that constantly land on the cow's face near the eye. It was sometime in the mid to late 60's. If you didn't treat your cows with some sort of spray to kill these flies, you would end up calling a veterinarian to treat pink eye and in some cases the cow would loose the eye altogether.

I used to farm just southwest of Minneapolis, summer can be hard when you have to work and, it is in the 90's with that high dew point. I live now up on the North Shore of Lake Superior, it is cool down by the lake, but, just go about a mile inland and, it is just as hot as down south. I do not envy you guys on days like this.

Tami and I took a little August trip to Grand Marais a couple years ago. We both loved it. We stayed a couple miles out of town in a cottage right on the North Shore. Croftville Road Cottages.

@@briansonne814Well, this year, the towns a mess, road work and utility replacement, and, the covid have really changed how we do things. We have only had one confirmed case in out county, and, that has not kept the tourists from coming. After the pandemic is past, and, the road construction things might return to some kind of normal. We can only hope for the best. Hope you can return for another visit some day. I just retired, and, am thinking of a road trip out west, i miss the flat open spaces, and, the plains and mountains. I am a native Minnesotan, and, i have never visited the Pipestone or Blue Mound area, have to put that on my bucket list.

Are those horse flies on the cows? I’ve been bitten by horse flies and it really hurts. That one cow you showed had a lot of flies on her back. I would think that mist would feel good on them.

How long will the fly killing product work Have you tried using the mineral lick with garlic additive to help with the fly problem on your cows, they say the flies can't stand the garlic sweat smell it creates on the cows

I was surprised to see how many cattle were still left, after selling approximately 175 head a week ago. Question -- How do you decide what cattle are sold off ??? Is it the oldest. who probably are no longer producing calf's.

My purebred mother cows stay here until they are 10 years old or more. Unless they lose a calf or become a problem. They dont get to stay if they dont pull their weight because i would rather give a new mother a chance to replace her.

Get some Dung Beetles they roll the poop 💩 into a ball 🎱 and bury it underground so the flies don’t have 🥘 food. There are many different types of Dung Beetle to suit different environments. As you have snow there I’m 🤔 not sure, definitely worth investigating. Again love 💕 the aerial shots!

Dogs need to eat grass for 2 reasons; 1, it helps them with an upset tummy, it makes them vomit and 2, it’s a source of moisture/water for them! Sorry to be the boring one x

Flys are the worst we would spray our dairy cows during milking once a week with a similar premade spray in an aerosol can. Watching your videos has inspired me to get back into dairy cows. I did not realize how much I missed it 15 years away from cows.

We had a little hand operated misting device for just what you are doing so its been around for awhile. We had to do each animal individualy. It killed the bot flies too. Good video. Peace.
