In Spain, it's Spanish wealthy farmers who own greenhouses in Morocco. They can produce cheaper there. The produce gets shipped to Spain and sold as "product of Spain". There's no control as these rich guys have connections in high places!!

Farmers protesting stringent climate rules with burning fires...pathetic. I don't understand why governments just don't have their own state-owned massive subsidized agricultural company. They can out compete everyone, get EU benefits, better salaries for works, the works, instead of being held hostage by every single farmer that complains. This is way too strange and dystopian! How is it that this is going on at the exact same time that the awful decision to allow monsanto Roundup poison to continue to be used in the EU along with the decision to okay GMO foods is happening.??!! What is getting ready to take place? I moved to the EU from the United States where I cannot tolerate any of the food and I mean not even the organic wheat or dairy. Most Americans over the age of 30 years old have some form of inflammatory bowel issues digestive issues and allergies to foods. It gets progressively worse as we get older. When I got to the EU I could eat anything and everything including the non-organic wheat and dairy because up until this point the food supply has not been as poisoned as it is in America. BUT that is all about to change with the new laws they have passed. I am sad to see this "Americanization" of the EU. People have no idea what is coming. The amount of health issues from eating pesticides and GMOs will completely alter life in the EU in the next decade. Even with the few organic farmers around once they start spraying more pesticides it will impact all of the environment and then the people indirectly. Total disaster for Europe.

EU environment laws are handcuffing ‘The Farmers’. Hmm, yes, real sustainable farmers try to be cost-efficient and productive, but there are limits to their land-use. You cannot be a modern eco-farmer and at the same time compete with agri-business without being also paid according to the quality of your product - which they aren’t. So far about real farmers. Agro-industry (farmers that produce products with weed poison, growth- medication, overkill nutrients injection, max nitrogen soyfodder, overcrowded stables etc.), are not so much affected by the EU rules: they run a business that is nearly independant of land. But these ‘farmers’ still need more supple rules to dump their soy-diarrhoea, to use their poison, ‘medications’ etc. So they pose as real farmers at the protests, using the real land-farmers to influence the public (voters). The EU is afraid to lose voters to the right-wing populist parties, so they turn back laws that took 40 years to make! Laws that might have succeeded in repairing some of the damage done by unsustainable agribusiness. Why does the EU not sternly implement their laws and forbid agribusiness practices while at the same time supporting sustainable farming? Because they are doing a split: they want sustainability AND large Europaean agricultural output. The EU fears to become too much dependant on large, world market producers like the US and the BRICS-nations. Solution: enable farmers to farm sustainably by giving them a ‘price-shelter’ just like big corporations got their illegal tax-evasions for about 70 years now. High pricing for sustainably produced products; low pricing for industrially produced products. AND ENFORCE IT. This way ever more land will be used ecologically instead of less.
