I got rid of the phone. Anything I do on the internet is on my laptop (i.e. sitting in a chair relaxing, NOT working in the garden, cooking, or outside doing stuff), so it usually only happens when the sun goes down.. I don't have a cell phone anymore, and it's like I took off the leash and collar. Wanna get a hold of me? Gotta send me an email, or put a personal paper note in my physical mailbox.

You described the ripples in a pond and my thought is how the pond always settles back to a glazed over flat surface like society. But if we the stones you throw in to the pond gather up we fill up the pond cause it to flow over making a waterfall where we reach out touching the rest of the world around us.

You say that you will just let the masses do their own thing while you do your thing. But that mindset means one day, the masses will discover your success, become jealous of it, and convince those in power to seize it. In the future of large-scale farming with robots, how hard would it be for demagogues to convince those same masses that the small-farming mindset you and others propose is too inefficient to feed those same masses. Where would that go? Not saying it would happen in our lifetimes... albeit I'm sure the Kulaks would have said the same thing. If you have a libertarian mindset, you cannot just disengage from the political system and let them do their own thing, because one day you'll find out they decided to come for you and take what is yours. And they will feel all the more justified given the political views you have and the intellectuals you follow. In any case, excellent video. Thoroughly appreciated your guys' discussion.
@AnalyticalChick
@AnalyticalChick 4 года назад
I agree. I think he more meant he wasn't going to go nuts trying to convert people who are thickheaded. I think people who get into farming would probably wake up from watching his videos. Like he did one where his T-Shirt said, "don't steal. The government hates competition."

great great video you guys!!! As a world traveller, and now mom of 5 living on a homestead I am completely on page with you...except for one thing (and it comes from PERSONAL experience)...talking so badly about communism and communist countries...as someone from Serbia I was born into a communist country and it fell apart when I was in my early teens, and for the past 20 years we had capitalism and democracy... (by the way i am in no way a communist or marxist, but rather an anarchist as you guys define it)...and without a shadow of a doubt life was way better during the communism...(of course depends on what you value as a good life) and please please do not take this badly, but North Americans are in my view, sort of brainwashed into believing they live in the best country in the world, Jordan Peterson points it out all too often, for example...and again I think it all depends on what you seem to value...if you value family time, debt free life, free education and healthcare it is probably not the best place to live ;-) Again, thank you so much for speaking up about this, God bless from Serbia
@Viva_la_natura

Sort of brainwashed? Completely. As a North American we've completely accepted our historical truths about the rest of the world from the same source westerners are so distrustful of...
@ivanchitzzza

@@Viva_la_natura yes...it is really weird for me listening how evil communism was...like comon. I had an awesome childhood lol, but at the same time ppl do not find it aweful to leave a 3 week old baby in a daycare and work...that is why i say it is like a brainwashing and unless you travel and see for yourself you have no other option but to beleive what you are told...

@@ivanchitzzza many of our best friends are Bosnian and Russian trust me I get it. The only reason I'm an American and understand this is because my stepfather was Chilean and I read plenty of the right books. The Anglo-Saxon American male is wedded to the ideology of capitalism in such an unenlightened and brainwashed fashion that it represents the worst Dogma any religion has ever concocted. It's amazing that someone can function thinking that way because they must experience such confusion
@anthonyc362
@anthonyc362 5 лет назад
ivanchitzzza debt free life, free collage? Nothing is free. Your communist/socialist country collapsed under collective debt. Nothing is free. It is very possible to live debt free in the USA. Sure, people will make fun of you and call you cheap but I don't care.
@ivanchitzzza
@ivanchitzzza 5 лет назад
@@anthonyc362 that is why I never said that communism is the answer nor that I am a communist!! I stated PERSONAL experience and that is that that regime was better then what we have today...and that is the experience of many many people as well...I have a problem when people who never lived in communist regime make assumptions about it being this horrible gulag because it just isn't true....

Steve, I'm impressed with your garden. I"m north of you in Riverside County. I'm 50 something with about a half acre of land which my husband and I try to grow some of our food. Some a hobby, some just wanting to eat better. My biggest challenge is watering / irrigation. I'd love to see / hear how you've dealt with your irrigation... problems and all. I've tried hand watering, a hose with a sprinkler and timer, poly pipe with .5 to 2 gpm inserts, spaghetti line with .5gm at 6"OC, etc... There's gotta be an easier way to put down irrigation than what I'm doing. I can grow more if I can resolve irrigation. My goal. Feed my household... and be able to scale up to feed my neighborhood IF they realize it's value for value. I spend a lot of time experimenting with crops and documenting results. Probably redundant, but I'm 50 something and I enjoy doing it... my rules on my land thing. I do know Curtis book is about the best organized info out there.... but I'm still enjoying experimenting. Someday I'll get to editing it into a usable book, perhaps, for use in a low desert climate.

"Love your neighbor as yourself". Self care only becomes selfish in the bad way, when it's at the expense of others. As for panic situations inducing that, some would say excusing it ( abortion)- I'm NOT picking on anyone/we all need grace & mercy, but the answer is that the person is either lacking trust in, love for or proper fear of God. Understandable for anyone who doesn't yet know Him, & most who do still forget, drift & stray, but it's still the truth, & "failing" a test just shows us where we have need to grow. Anyways, also I live in the U.S. , & while it's no guarantee as far as how dissenters may someday be treated, I'm glad I've stuck with what my parents started for me when I was about age 10 or so, getting rid of our social security #'s , State birth certificate's & their marriage license - that they effectively legally are a contract, voluntarily making u a ward of the State. Other who believe this, say u can't get rid of it/not much u can do, but my folks rescinded them formally, on file at county clerks office, & after throwing in Driver's license too ( at 1st we signed a " Conscientious objector to S.S. #" waiver , but realized could't check the box that we are citizens, since we no longer are ( of the U.S. Inc., anyways), we're denizens., and learned about significance of name in all caps. Only after that did they stop getting the ( mild) harrassment from the IRS, since they were no longer filing . Seemed to me to be a more clear conscience way of at least doing what we could to formally say " Iwas ignorant b4, now I know, & rescind & eschew these agreements". Technically you aren't required to file to IRS if you make less than $5,000. a yr ( in the 90s, it went up I think) per adult, & at the time, they weren't ! The IRS couldn't believe they were living on so little, but our small place was paid for, we grew a fair amount of own food & used cloth diapers, and us older kids owned some of the cattle assets (so if sold one, it wasn't technically my parents $ ). Also, my mom says if you never once file, you never get the ball rolling that requires u to play. Later they formed a type of trust that I've heard u no longer can, & use it for being able to bank & sell milk again ( commercially), as they went back to my grandma's dairy farm which still hadn't sold & was costing her $, and gradually took it over. They aren't perfect & have at times believed conspiracy theories too easily, etc. ( without a healthy " grain of salt" on just anyone's say-so) but I've seen & heard enough in all sorts of areas of life, & folks from all walks of it, to be convinced that it's true that those things are not something I think are innocent & harmless, they very, very likely mean what my parents learned they do, & I can't in good conscience have/use them, as a Christian ( told to " but, be free if you can" & " be not unequally yoked" etc. ) OR just as a freedom & righteousness loving person OR as someone who'd later complain about being bossed around by my self-appointed guardian. Thankful for u guys. I am not "crazy" in any ( other) way, just a former dairy farm gal who loves this healthy way of gardening & grazing & etc. etc. & glad u r for freedom. Me too.

Oh, I don't know, maybe the fact that the earth was once covered in ice? The thing is, people are focused on issues that their friends are talking about, meanwhile here in the US we use tons of chemicals in food that are illegal in most other countries. Let's focus on how prevalent cancer is, and all the other diseases that are killing people NOW. Screw politics. They manufacture hysteria just to push an agenda and ignore issues that are affecting millions of people, and I'm talking about both sides.

I disagree with not letting kids have phones. This is a normal part of being a kid these days. Thats like saying you don't want your kids to have books back in the 1800s because all you see are a bunch of brainwashed kids never looking up from their books. Kids need phones to have a normal social life. I didn't have a phone growing up by choice. I wasn't into Facebook or Instagram because it just didn't make any sense to me and it still doesn't today. I have a phone now though. And it has allowed me to find like minded people such as Curtis and many others who have inspired me to become less dependent on the system and more self sufficient. I have gained lifetimes of knowledge thanks to the internet and to not allow your kids to have access to this knowledge is doing them a huge disservice.

Small scale farming will be a part of the future of agriculture, but it taking over as the main form of farming I don't see happening. Not enough young people know how to work hard. But I'm trying to encourage as many as I can to get into this because I believe in its power to change our society.

Can anyone post a link to info about the climate change bit? Everything I’ve seen including a recent documentary from a very well respected source points to our use of fossil fuels as the causes, if this is not the case I’d be grateful if there are resources I can refer to? I’m a homesteader in the U.K., trying to get a business off the ground, being blocked by ignorant authorities and small minded people. hopefully they can’t object to my Market garden plans. They were very common once but died out years ago, it’s not as big of a movement here, but permaculture groups do exist, and regen ag is my only option on a few acres, hoping to be a bit of a pioneer!

Thank you for the great insight and for defining anarchy correctly, establishment really wants us to believe anarchy means chaos. Do you know the ownwership economy series: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4fTkPv5EzB0.html Actually I'm think I'm quite far on the left but for some reason I agree to at least 90% of what you said. Basically I want equality as much as possible and communism or standard collectivism is ruled by an authoriy that's why it doesn't work. In anarchism you have liberty but also equality and this is the only way there is real equality. Because under standard communism you have a strong unequality between the rulers and the proletariat.

This was confusing conversation. Concepts are mixed. "Politicians love communism." No, they don't. If they would, there would be no state anymore. "I hate communism, but if you allow me as libertarian (anarchist?) to live together, then we can go alongside. Don't bring imperialism!" Actually, final stage of communism and anarchism are pretty much same thing. Communism is not about imperialism.

Yep you got it @Mojo Blades, I spent years in my 20s screaming at the top of my lungs for people to see the obvious truth of our society/food/health/government etc. No one wanted to listen and have their comfortable bubble popped. It was a mistake of being young. A wise man once told me, when the student is ready the teacher will come and when the teacher is ready the student will come. I've lived my entire adult life with very little money because of the work I've pursued which is teaching and farming, in the pursuit of helping others. I could be making 100K+ a year if I would have gone into my college major of IT. I chose a different path. It's hilarious that people judge people's intentions and whole life philosophy based on a few sentences and have probably never heard of many of the concepts we scratched the surface on. They don't know who we are at all but hey that's the internet for you. The voices of everyone can be heard and many of these people are filled with anger, rage, and intense toxicity and they spew it over anyone they disagree with. I've been guilty of that as well so I don't judge them but I feel bad for them and hope they can find peace someday.
