For what it's worth: You don't need grass, silage AND mixed ration. If you're feeding them mixed ration, all you need to do is add straw for their bedding. You'll be at 100% then. I know, it's confusing because the game leads you to believe that you need to fill the whole list in your PDA for full productivity. Really like your vids Moose, informative and easy to follow!
I only ever use Mixed rations and straw. Straw isn't eaten by the cows, it's just for bedding, but it's still needed to get to 100%. The ratio is straw = 10% + Mixed rations = 90%. The silage and grass are there simply to feed them something until you can produce mixed rations, but at a lower % efficiency. This works the same way in FS13 and FS15. It's all I've ever used and I get 100% efficiency all the time.
I have to say that you are one of very few people that actually know what you are doing on the sim videos and you explain yourself perfectly.. Thank you very much,, I've subscribed to you.. Nifty,,,,
Moose, your videos are very well put together. You are informative and pleasant to listen to. Thank you for taking the time to pick up the ball where Giants dropped it.
You all probably dont care at all but does anybody know a way to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly lost my password. I love any help you can give me!
@Princeton Donald Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and I'm trying it out atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Just one note, the straw is used as bedding, they don't actually eat it. Great video, I always thought it will be more complicated than this and since I spend 17k a day for fertilizer alone, maybe I should become a rancher. Great video Moose !
You have a very nice voice. Secondly, what are you looking at for profits? How much money are these cows bringing in? Is it really profitable/worth the effort?
The straw is for bedding not feeding. The only time you feed the straw is in the mixed ration. As long as they have straw bedding and mixed ration their productivity will be at 100%.
I'm at 100% productivity:)! Mixed ration! In your feeding machine(2nd one) put a bucket of wheel loader(6400 silage), 1 bale of straw and 1 bale of hay and feed them with straw. With that you'll get 100%
+steel poet Straw comes from harvesting wheat & barley, hay comes from mowing grass and tedding it to dry faster. Straw = bedding material to produce manure, hay = grass for eating to produce milk. hth 8)
question please! i´m running a normal game, 100 cows, 100% productivity and at midnight they are only turning 10k. It seems quite low. They are producing 12k milk per day. Tips please! TY
now I am stuck with the things on the red mixer to feed the cows and it does not take it for food when it says unload. Don't know what to do. Help me please. How do I get rid of the stuff from the mixer and start over again. I put 1 bail yellow grain, 1 bail from hay but it says i put 0 hay.
I have two questions. Is this for the PS3? Does the milk get sold only when the tank is full? I don't seem to be getting money everyday from the milk that's in there.
I've had the PS3 version since it came out and I still haven't gotten cows yet. I keep forgetting what you have to do, plus the limits on how many machines you can have kind of kills that. But I am getting sheep.
I have a question not about cows. When I mow my wheat In my fields when I get half way done mowing the wheat turns and grayish brown color does that mean my wheat is dead and how do I grow it more?
thanks for the vid. question though: I bought 5 cows and fed them the max amount of straw. Where can I store the remaining straw I have? Do I have to sell the rest of the straw?
I thought that feeding them mixture will get them to 100% productivity by itself, if i understood you correctly, in the case i ONLY feed them with the mixture then i'll only get 20%???? (i'm a noob just starting to play, so i'm not at the point of being able to get cows or anything, but i love to watch tuts..., btw yours are pretty good! Thanks)
I tested it extensively in FS2013 and feeding them ONLY mixed ration brought them to 90%. I'm assuming the same is true in 15 but haven't actually tested it yet.
Hi, a bit of a morbid question... but if i never feed my cows will they die... i just forget sometimes and i am a little worried as i just spent all my money on cow things Thanks
my farm requires a TON of fertilizer as well as my green houses demanding a TON of manure. so my question... the more cows I have, the more manure I get?
the official kramer, you have replies turned off. Statistics are on your PDA. Hit the arrows to scroll through or D-Pad on a console. Hope you see this and it helps!
Nope just to get ALL the money possible. If you're at 80%, for example, you'll only get 80% of the money possible (which is still worth it). Even if you feed them NOTHING you'll still be at 5%.
Moose2006LP ok thank you. I guess I should remove all the hay bales I stored in that area lol. I'm at 90% productivity, so I'll need to add straw and hay individually...
Cody De Zwarte yes, all you have to do is pick the grass up with the loading wagon after you mow it. No tedding required. Unload it into the section for grass and it will accept it as hay for the mixed ration. I stumbled across this by accident. Saves a lot of time!
Jennifer Behncke And silage. Then you have to give them straw for bedding. Eventually you'll want to mix the straw, hay, and silage into a mixer to get their productivity up to 100%.
Daniel Eddleston What exactly are you needing help with? It's all the same stuff just a different location. Also, my FS2013 video is on Westbridge, I think, but it was made years ago and is pretty terrible quality. Might help though.
I know you can do straw bales using the machine under Cow Feeding Technology in the shop (the only machine that's NOT a mixer) which I show in my FS2013 cow tutorial. However, it's 100x easier/faster to just use loose straw from a loading wagon. Otherwise I've never actually tried using hay or silage bales soooooo if it works let me know :) happy farming!
For PC, hit "I" on your keyboard and click the arrow keys at the top of the menus to span through to view your statistics (I think it's the last menu).
Eli Arsenault YES! :) I actually just did this in my latest FS15 Let's Play video and was shocked it worked so well. You can put it on the front of your tractor and cultivator/sower on the back and do both at the same time (make sure cultivator is selected when you hire the worker or the worker will turn around when the fertilizer is finished with its row instead of when the cultivator/sower is). Good luck!
Thanks, this video really helps. Although I wonder, in real life, how does the waste get to the underground slurry tank? It's not like someone can use a shovel... Oh wait I know... SHOP-VAC!!! lol jk
