Really enjoyed your video. Don’t know how I have missed it as I have watch all the others. Love your artistic editing. We have a Farr 7500 as well, bought about the same time as this video in 2018. We have been teaching our selves to sail as we had no experience with sailing, always had motor boats but had a yearned to sail. Have had some great weekends sailing Hervey Bay and beaching her on Fraser Island over night. I might add also had a few harrowing times with very breezy conditions feeling a little out of our depth! Still trying to get my head around the techniques of sailing and understanding our little boat. There is not a lot of info on the Farr 7500. Do have a bilge pump in your boat? I want to install one for safety but can’t work out the best place to install one. Any ideas? We look forward to seeing more video from you both. Cheers from Queensland

Hi Patrice, Thanks for the lovely comments, and congrats on picking up a Farr 7500 - we are slightly biased >GRIN< but reckon they are the best all-round compromise in a cruising trailer yacht ever built. If it's really getting windy, (and navigation allows), don't be afraid to just sail under working jib alone, or to sail under reefed main alone. If you're thinking about reefing the main, go straight to the 2nd reef, and use your traveller for the mainsheet. Two quick points - how old is your standing rigging and how old is the keel lifting wire? If you're out in strong weather, the last thing you need is for either to give trouble. We were planning on a trip to Fraser Island this year but the "current situation" has postponed it to winter 2021. Cheers, Gavin & Amanda,

Also, there should be some trailer yacht clubs around Morton Bay that would be only too happy to have you join them. Cruising in company is FANTASTIC, especially when you're kicking off. It's extremely reassuring to have more experienced trailer yachties with you when it gets tough - and you'll find the company makes it that much more enjoyable. Bilge Pumps - we have a manual one operable from the helm that picks up under the cockpit (behind the steps). Nice to have but can't beat a frightened man with a bucket !

Trailer Yacht is right. Experiment with jib only or double reef main only when the wind gets up. Small 12v bilge pumps can be installed in the bilge. The water can only enter in certain areas. Know them and where to look if you do get a leak. Great boats.

@@ianbell5611 Be sure to tell everyone how Lake Macquarie is a truly terrible place to live. Bull sharks and razor clams throughout the Lake. In fact a man was attacked by a bullshark in the Lake only last year. Massive issues with pollution and subsidence from coal mining, asthma issues from the coal burning powerstations, ongoing lead and asbestos contamination from the old smelter at Boolaroo, and continuing residues from the old BHP steelworks. Plus we have lots of social problems due to the proximity of Sydney. Don't know why we ever bought here. (wink, wink). Send an email to gavin.ayre1@gmail.com and we can chat offline. Cheers, Gavin 🙂

Great video. I have just started looking to purchase a trailer sailer and have found myself watching this video a few times now. Just looking for a weekend boat with the potential for a couple of people to comfortably sleep on. I'm on the Sunshine Coast, Qld. Thanks again for the time you have put into making this very inspirational video, Cheers Paul.

Hi Paul, thanks for the wonderful comment - we are thrilled you enjoyed the video. With luck, you'll find a good boat soon. There are many popular designs to choose from, but we love our Farr 7500. Enjoy the search & hope you will join us on the water soon. Cheers, Gavin & Amanda.

Thanks so much for the quick great advice. Not knowing anyone who sails to advise makes for a lot of trial and error but achievement when you figure it out! Yes we did replace a couple of the shrouds that were shedding some strands. The keel lifting wire and shackles? has always mystified me. Where and how do you check it? Any ideas would be appreciated. We too where planning to explore new horizons in Moreton Bay before the lockdown. One of my dreams is to take my wife and the boat down to the Macquarie Lakes, it seems like a nice peaceful benign stretch of water. Thanks again for the advice and happy sailing to you both. Peter and Patrice

Hi Peter & Patrice, Most insurance companies have a requirement that the standing rigging on your mast be less than ten years old - otherwise there is no coverage. Make sure you keep the receipts from the rigger ! Regardless of what trailer yacht we have owned, we always choose to replace our keel lifting wire/cable every 12 months - two years max, and we always carry a complete spare cable & shackles - they never fail at a good time. Preventative maintenance is essential with all trailer yachts. Not familiar with the tradesmen in your area - join your local trailer yacht club - they'll soon tell you who the good ones are. Your local sail maker is probably also a rigger or works with one & can look at fabricating the standing rigging for you. Keel wire replacement _can_ be done yourself, but too many people get very badly hurt or have very near misses trying to save $200. We choose to pay our local shipwright to lift our Farr 7500, use his commercial stands, pull & inspect both the U bolt and the keel pivot pin, drops the keel out, cleans & sprays it and replaces the keel cable all at the same time. Hope this helps, Gavin & Amanda.

Hi Naughty Goat Farm - really glad you enjoyed the video - thanks for commenting - it really helps us ! We’ve got a DJI Phantom 3 standard - it’s cheap and extremely easy to catch safely from a small yacht under sail.

@DustInOz76 - Your Sabre 22 is an excellent boat for our breezy Australian conditions too. Farr 7500s are known for build quality, interior room and are superb to sail in both heavy & light winds. The swing keel & light mast are cruising essentials. Smart interior layout & heaps of space (for a 25 footer). Removable panels make the interior airy & light - brilliant in hot weather. There are many excellent trailer yachts in Australia, but our Farr 7500 suits us beautifully.

Trailer Yacht thanks mate. Yes we loved our Sabre however have recently sold it due to shortly moving overseas for a couple of years. How does the Farr 7500 sail? Prone to rounding up or much weather helm? A couple of kiwi videos I found showed one sailing beautifully in a stiff breeze... cheers.

@@DustInOz76 - Very light, well-balanced tiller with slight weather helm until she is _very_ over-powered, but the traveller solves that easily until you need to reef. Typical Farr design behaviour. Sail them flat (like ALL trailer yachts). She really loves a good blow. To give you an idea how we feel about the Farr 7500 - this is the third one we've had in my family since the late 1980's. For us, it was the obvious choice for a cruising boat that sails really well.

@DustInOz76 - Luckily there are a few about, but they don't change hands that often. There were strong class associations in South Australia & Victoria until very recently. We've got more videos coming - but finishing off something a bit special first. Bob at _Sailing_ _Talisman_ (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y8UnNhN5tek.html) has been having a few pretty solid adventures in his Farr 7500 that might be of interest.
