Not all of them are well behaved... However since getting foot care is a pretty regular thing for horses, they get used to it. Farrier work is a body punishing trade.
That's not true. I scare the shit out of my horse everyday day and he doesn't trust me for shit. But the second he wants attention, who's shirt is he pulling? Mine. The second a girl tries to be around me, guess who is getting kicked in the face? Her?.....that would be a nice change.... Nope. She (my horse) wants to kick me. She instead walks between me and a girl while using her body to push the girl away. Me and this horse have been best friends for 14 years.
Being a farrier isn't an easy job by any means. Setting the physical labour part aside for a second, a farrier has to learn two very different fields of knowledge: anatomy of and how to treat issues with horses' hooves, and how to work metal. Shaping a shoe isn't just heating up a strip of iron until it glows and then hitting it with a hammer until you get the shape you want. you have to know what temperature is best to work with, and how over- and under-heating will affect the metal and its properties. Then there is the hammering itself: I did some jewellery making and silver smithing some years back, and learned that if you hit the metal in one way, one thing would happen, hit it slightly differently, and something completely different results. So I take my hat off to all farriers- after all, they aren't just people fixing metal shoes to horses with nails: they are true masters of two very different crafts!
Depends on the horse more than the farrier horses get their hooves trimmed once a month if they're use to it they behave if it's their 1st couple times the horse is a pain in the ass
I'd love to see one where you explained what/why you were doing. As someone who has never shoed a horse (and never will) I think it would be super interesting to hear the basics from yourself, given you're so clearly an expert in your field!
That horse is very well taken care of. I watch ones where it's "neglected" or can't walk with infection or something horrible. But to watch theses can really see the difference.
@@Terminal.Rainbows & Sigijade : 1.) Carving out the sole. 2.) Carving out the bars (heel). 3.) Clipping the hoof wall (quarter walls) 4.) File or sear the bottom of the hoof so it is plumb with the horseshoe. 5.) With brand new shoes, nailing in 2 nails for the inside of the hoof and 3 nails for the outside of the hoof. The claw of the hammer on the topside of the hoof afterwards is the clip off the excess of the nail. Then they nail is smacked into the side of the hoof so it is flush and doesn't protrude. 6.) Then the toe is filed to be flush with the front of the horse shoe
You do BEAUTIFUL work!!!! You’re the first ferrier that I see on RU-vid who pays such nice attention to the beauty of the outside hoof using an electric sander and then the sanding block at the end, and the clear hoof hardener. I’d buy a horse just so I could take him to you!!!!
@@jakub8860 did this man seriously just make a reply to a comment praising the work the person in the video about their religion? You guys cannot be serious whenever you ask why you’re hated online.
I've watched so many of your videos, but I don't know why this video made my back ache. Hope you stay healthy and keep up the amazing work! Take care of your back too!
I seen a few farriers at work, but this one is next level saying that credit to horse and its owners who have put the time in to make it so relax its standing like a trooper.
To appreciate to true mastery . Take a hoof rasp and try to rasp a hoof. It is a simple procedure but it is not simple or easy . Takes strength and technique . Rhythm comes later.
I love watch your videos when I can't sleep and I said "one more video and I'm going to sleep... OK this it's the last video... OK thats going to be the last video... Omg what happened to that cow?... This its the last video..." and the next morning I need a coffee but I'm happy to know u helped those animals, I hope they are having a peaceful life. :)
At first I was worried because it looks like those huge nails were being driven ALL the way into the hoof. Then I looked closer and saw they actually pop out of the side of the hoof and then are clipped off
I've watched lots of horse shoeing video on RU-vid these years, this is epic, a masterpiece. Every step shows gentle and professional care of the horse, I can tell that the horse must be proud of these new shoes.
In my part of Canada Carol, its 45 bucks a trim every 4 to 6 weeks and shoes vary depending on what the animal requires for shoes...like anything else, how one horse is shod differs from the next as every animal is different.
Growing up in Romania in the 90's most of us had grandparents who had small households with animals of all kinds , but most of them had at least one horse ,one cow , all kinds of birds and other livestock . I remember how most people if they ever saw someone who had a skinny horse or one that looked unhealthy they would immediately judge the owner as a bad person and an older aunt of mine ,when I was about 7 or 8 , she had to use her horse for a weekend with worn shoes because the blacksmith was so busy he couldn't make it in time , the horse was struggling a bit and my aunt was almost in tears and talking him through the work , she even took twice as long to finish everything because she was trying to protect him ( rain was predicted and so the crop had to be harvested that day ) . People who own horses love them more than other people I swear .
Totally agree with this. I grew up in Erdely in Marosvaszarhely but also on the countryside in a small village called Gruisor and I totally agree. Horses to some were the only way of transportation so some took great care of them. Others not so much but most did.
Как огонь горит,как река течет,а также как другие работают, все мы любим наблюдать. Мастер выполняет работу изумительно,это я как специалист говорю. Но я не психолог.
I am an autobody tech by trade, and the similarities to this field of work is uncanny. I am considering becoming a farrier, it looks to fun and I love horses.
When I saw how much frog was being taken of I was like 😱😱😨 then I reized he must be putting shoes on. That's the only explanation. The frog is like your heel it's shock obsorbant.
I was a Union Carpenter for a short time and it was hard on my body. Look at Job Sites where you see the Layout Carpenters measuring and snapping Chalk Lines. They work standing and bent over at the Waist, in the Sun, Wind etc. It's a Young Man's type of work and takes it's toll on your Back, Shoulders, Arms, just like this work, bent over, hammering etc.
Ime it's harder in your legs than back. You spend a lot of time standing like you're doing the invisible chair exercise... Without a wall to brace against. And a horse leaning on you. And your legs at an awkward angle to hold their hoof in place.
You've gotta be the best farrier I've seen. Your work is very rhythmic and precise. Of the RU-vid farriers, your results are second to none. Those are some VERY happy horse feet. :)
Hi so I just have some questions about some farm animals because me and my family are moving to to a VARY country place a small town but we are getting a small from and we are going to have two or three goats and some chickens so if any of y’all could give some advice on them let me know please.Oh and just a small question lol so when you have a house do you have to have a house shoe or what ever it’s called on their hoofs or no lol
Always been a horse fan since Hidalgo. Am I incorrect to assume some breeds aren't as cooperative as others? What's the horseshoe health maintenance difference of a wild horse like a pure bred Mustang compared to a domestic horse that's pampered since birth?
I like the smaller (potato piller) tool you use. Those Australian guys channel seem like that crazy axe is gonna chop off the horse & sheep's feet off🤦😬. The horse's even be neighing over there. You're very gentle with your horses.👍
Very nice! I've watched quite a few of these videos now, across different channels, and you're doing an outstanding job! :) Here's a question: You're fitting the horse with a shoe that includes a plastic layer. Is that for additional protection? I saw one of S&S's videos where he added a leather pad for therapeutics (I believe because of a broken bone), but that's probably not the case here?
They are used for protection, prevention, rehabilitation, and orthopaedic. Not sure about this horse in particular as there as so many reason a horse can be fitten with them. A few examples Some horses have them due to work, for example some endourace riders have sole padding to prevent rocks from puncturing the hoof. Others have them due to areas they live in. A horse that hurt their foot will often be fitten with some form of sole padding/support. Lastly some horses have conformation/genetic issues and are fitten with sole padding/protection to prevent damage and treat any issues they may have (:
Я в восторге я такую процедуру в деревне наблюдал. Но там коня в спец загон ставят и перед работой каждую ногу по очереди привязываюсь. То что наблюдал там и здесь огромная разница. Мастер своего дела.
i had horses for many years of all shapes and sizes and breeds. My horses never had dry, flaky hooves. I spent an inordinate amount of time and money buying salves, lotions, and creams and doing maintenance every day because i wanted them to be healthy. it's strange to see so many videos with badly neglected hooves on such beautiful animals. Thank you for your videos.
Question if anyone knows: are those black areas, concentrated around dark dots at the front edges of the hooves, because of where the horseshoe gets hammered into the hoof? From the nails? Is it residue, or staining? 🐴 thanks 👍
@@classicambo9781 epoxi shoes doesnt really laset that long and harder to reuse, metal can be remelt after the shoe wears out, epoxi harder material wise, not saying i know anything about horses just meterial wise plastic-ish materials is harder to reuse than metals :)
