The wreck of the White Star Liner reveals thousands of tragic artifacts, many of which tell us amazing stories about how the ship was built and lost. Today join Mike as he explores five of these remarkable items and how they can speak to the tragic night the ship sank with the loss of over 1,400 lives.
This video was made in conjunction with ‪@TitanicHG‬ who provided the remarkable animations of the ship. Animations are by Jack Gibson with special inclusions from Matthew DeWinkeleer and Kyle Hudak. With special thanks to James Penca and Robin Beuting.
Oceanliner Designs explores the design, construction, engineering and operation of history’s greatest vessels- from Titanic to Queen Mary and from the Empress of Ireland to the Lusitania. Join maritime researcher and illustrator Michael Brady as he tells the stories behind some of history's most famous ocean liners and machines!

Hi friends! I'm away on vacation at the moment and to ease the workload I have been going through some previously-lost Oceanliner Designs videos and republishing them. This one was a casualty of a copyright takedown and it has been re-worked and re-uploaded for you to enjoy again for the first time in over a year. This is one of the first videos I made in conjunction with the legends at Titanic Honor and Glory! I hope you like it :) ~Mike

The discoveries that had been found since the ship was found in 1985 is amazing.
@Prowl76
@Prowl76 День назад
The wreck was discovered 16 days after my 9th birthday. I read the Dec 85 issue of National Geographic and absolutely marveled at the pictures of the wreck contained within and the words by Robert Ballard describing what it was like to lay the first eyes on this ship in 73 years. And so began a lifelong fascination with Titanic and her story. I used to have reservations about the recovery of artifacts from the sea floor. I was of the opinion that they should be left alone out of reverence and respect to those that died there. But after seeing the exhibit at the Luxor hotel in Las Vegas, seeing the personal items made me think and wonder about the people that that owned and used these things. I thought about the lives they must have lived, the people they knew and loved and the hopeful futures they were looking forward to that never came. I thought about everything that these items had seen and been through to eventually make their way to me. It made me feel connected in a way to the people that were there, those that survived and perished both. It was a bittersweet experience.

Why do I tear up at every titanic video? This one had me actually crying when I think of those brave souls in the engine and boiler rooms keeping the lights on till almost the end. @christopherstephenjenksbsg4944
Growing up in the Chelsea section of Manhattan in the 1960s and early 70s, I got used to hearing the distinctive whistles of different oceanliners and seeing them glide by on the Hudson, towering over the low-rise industrial buildings near the docks. The most distinctive whistle I remember is that of the SS France (launched 1960). Her whistle was deep and sonerous -- more a horn than a whistle. I always knew when she was going by. She was decommissioned in 1974, then rechristened the Norway and refitted as a cruise ship. She was finally scrapped in 2005 after a boiler explosion killed 8 crew members in 2003, but she wasn't the ship she used to be. It was a sad end to a magnificent lady. And I still remember her deep whistle!

I'm one of the people who is obsessed with the titanic. I was 9 when it was discovered. Watched the program on holiday, had books and a book that made 3 different paper models. 1 was half the titanic showing rooms and I was always fascinated by the pool. The 2nd was a mid sinking titanic and the 3rd was the wreck on the floor.

Mike, you might consider updating this to note salvors RMS Titanic inc. sounded the whistles to the public when recovered artifacts went on display at a former train station in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1999. I have been a French fan of the Titanic for more than two decades. I am impressed by your talent as a historian, and the gentlemanly style you adopt here is perfectly suited to the theme of the golden age of ocean liners. When I look at the mass of work put into reconstructing the Titanic, I would like to know if souls who have been in contact with the ship for more than a century are looking at us from where they are... (workers, engineers, crew, passengers, etc) and are surprised to see that they are not forgotten. Thank you for all your videos, I watch some of them every day and even today I know more about cabin insulation! (This is a question I've been wondering about for a very long time). I hope perhaps one day to meet serious enthusiasts like you! 🤩

I've always followed the TITANIC from my youth. What a trip, we never would have known other than by a minor glimpse of the past if she never had sunk, yet, TITANIC takes so much of our memories and feelings of the disaster. Your vids have become a very substantial source of TITANIC information, thanks for all your hard work and time.
