you could dye shoes to match, it was the thing in the 50s to have matching shoes and purse.

@@bookmouse2719 dyeables shoes is still a thing. Even in the 2010s for my wedding my mother was trying to convince me my MOH needed them lol (she'd had all my sisters use them for their proms & weddings)

I loved seeing her brother's old bedroom converted into a walk-in closet in season 3! I think they alluded to storing some of their wardrobe in their basement storage area too. I think unlike us, who can own a gigantic amount of clothing without wearing most of it, she actually wore most of her clothing, since she was constantly changing!

So far I’m not impressed with season 4. I’m hoping it improves bc so far it looks like they just put it together in a rush for the sake of just having it out there. Very disappointed ☹️

That's really awesome! Even if not on main characters, they do set the background actors and just add authenticity to the period fashion

Lol she has said before in an unrelated interview that it's hard because she's not responsible for 100% of the video, so some things remain inaccurate or with incomplete information.. but hey, at least the drawings are better now! Baby steps🙃

This show is not underated, did you see the amount of awards it won? The writing is superb, the acting is great, the whole cast is well put together, tbis is one of the better shows outthere, its really, really good, I Am A FAN.

@@patriciajones6771 Despite its awards it's not widely known publicly outside of tv show nerds or Amazon Prime users (which is a small number of people compared to say Netflix).

The show has won many Golden Globes and Emmys, and it's not underrated at all. But I think it deserves to be more famous. It's not fair that a CW quality show like Wednesday is far more popular than Maisel.

And had the time to devote to it! I am the type of woman who can be very fashion conscious when I am dressed for business or for a night out on the town and I know it takes me a great deal of time to put myself together for those occasions. If I was not only doing that every single day but changing into equally elaborate outfits complete with accessories two or three times a day it would be difficult for me to get very much else done. That's to say nothing of the amount of time it would take me to shop for the enormous amount of clothing that I would need to pull off that many looks, as well as all of the make up and beauty care products. And then of course there would be all the time it took to keep my hair looking THAT good on a daily basis. I'd LOVE to be able to do it but I just couldn't keep up with all of it.

Thanks to women like midge we have so many more options in our lives than just being a housewife or makeup counter girl. What really got me was when she takes her makeup off only while her husband is asleep. I haven’t worn makeup in a whole week, I couldn’t imagine the pressure women were under!

Not everyone in the 50s dressed like this though. Most women just wore a simple blouse and skirt, or dress.

@@EspeonMistress00 There was also that booming post WWII economy. It’s a lot easier to pay for two or three wardrobe changes a day when you’ve got money to burn.

Pandemic living absolutely wrecked my habits of dressing nicely. There was a time though when I'd often wear daywear or working clothes and evening wear or something to look nice out on the town.

Not the pink coat. The hem is shocking. My sewing teacher would be very disappointed in me if I hemmed something that bad.

Believe me I am built like a beanpole so I know what you mean. Peplum, pleated or ruffled skirts, A line dresses, and empire waist gowns are all my friend. Fashionable wide belts or scarves help define the waist as well and I have a waist cincher when I really want to squeeze a little more hourglass out of my figure. When all else fails and I want to be comfortable but pretty maxi dresses (which often mimic an empire waist style) are an absolute god send. I put a great deal of effort into learning early on what accentuated my figure and what didn't. Unlike Marilyn I could not look good in a potato sack or any other sack dress, or drop waistline dress or skirt and top. I also was fortunate to spend enough time on my art education to know how to use a color wheel and to pick colors that highlight my hair and complexion. I've been fortunate to be complimented many times on my sense of style.

My ex was wearing girdle and old lady panties (like these illustrated) well into the 1960s till we got married in 1970. (Trust me, she didn't need a girdle.) I insisted on getting her more fashionable panties.
