This isn’t about the ability for people to afford clothing, this is about the forced labor (which is slave labor) of people like the Uyghurs through CCP labor camps. I agree there need to be some brands that produce affordable clothing for all income levels, but never at the known expense of another human’s dignity, freedom and life. Now you have been informed what is happening with this brand and you are responsible for how you handle that information.
And you actually say different things in you videos, depending what fits at the moment. It's not cool. Everybody can afford something better for the environment. I buy secondhand my whole life. And u don't need so many things in your life, really.
Very true. I am someone that loves to thrift shop. I have since before it became cool. Ive noticed the second hand clothing is more expensive than what you can find in stores like Wal-mart. People need to look at the fact that a lot of the “sustainable” clothing companies aren’t as sustainable as they present themselves to be. I’m not knocking the sustainable fashion idea if its done well. If someone can afford to buy a 40 dollar shirt from a sustainable company thats great. I got mad when I was at goodwill the other day because they were trying to sell a pair of boots for 75 dollars. Many people that shop there can not afford 75 dollars for a pair of boots. That is what makes it hard to even second hand shop, they price gouge something that was donated for free. And before someone comes at me I have never ordered from Shein but I wont judge anyone that does. I also got a steal yesterday I found a camel colored pea coat that I absolutely love from a second hand shop for 20 dollars.
@@elizadawne3896 I have heard others talk about this problem, how thrift stores are raising prices. It's a real issue because something that was very accessible for so many is now not, and so they unfortunately turn to fast fashion. I don't know what can be done, but the issue of thrift stores and affordable pricing really needs to be addressed....
I have to agree with the comments below relating to Sheins practices. The clothes look cheap and not particularly well made hence the lower price point.

You had a good idea to show us the reality of these orders. I know you advocate quality over the frivilous and cheap. BUT from reviews from lots of us who watch your channel they are almost unified in their disdain for this company. As always I appreciate your honesty.
From several bloggers in fashion the message has been Shein has terrible practices as in the way they treat their employees with no safety measures and they slave away under horrible conditions not to mention their hardly existent wages. Also, the way things are made are cheap, cheap, cheap and they show it. Frederique, please look into the background of this company before buying from them.
The choose to work there. Boycotting them means less money for the company which means they will employ fewer people (who need the money. Your first world concerns fail to consider that) which means longer and harder hours for the reduced workforce.
Yes they have some cute pieces but I really prefer not to promote fast fashion. A classy and attractive person such as yourself looks even better in good quality clothing.

Well...they are girls/ladies who cannot afford prêt à porter and expensive clothes... Plus, in sommer it is nice to have lots of clothes not expensive but that made the trick to the beach or to stay in your garden.
@@azucenasalgado9658 But there is a wide span between the cheapest and pret a porter/expensive. I don't buy expensive clothing either; these days there are many ways to get ones hands on quality clothing e. g. second hand. In Germany we have the saying Buying cheap means buying twice.

@@bokky24 I guess that Frederique just wanted to make a funny video. Everyday, while doing my sport, I waych RU-vid channels of very famous and classy influencers in Europe and México. They all are in their 40'-50' and have great success with Shein hauls...
.When it’s that cheap, we should all wonder why !… Glad you explored the company to make up your mind but please I don’t think we need another influencer giving them traction. You should have a look at Justine Lecomte video on Shein manufacturing practices - no traceability, not trustworthy with their visuals online versus what they ship, and according to quite a few investigative reports done in the past two years (CBC just did one this Fall), no respect for the (slave) workers, and terrible for the environment. In the end, affordability is relative to how long you keep a piece in your closet. Shein encourages a ‘in one day, out next week mentality ‘ .
I have ordered 4 tops and a sweater from them and I like them all. This was before I heard of their poor treatment of workers. I haven't ordered from them since.
Great to see how - at least in the commenzs - your followers prefer the more ethicsl brands rather than the very fast fashion one‘s where garments are made under dubious conditions. I am also wondering what any of these clothes will look like after they‘ve been wadhed a fes times.

I agree! I started watching these videos bc I was interested in the focus on French "quality over quantity." I am confused, because in the first video I watched she spoke against fast fashion and recommended we invest in some high quality, more expensive pieces. I think she said that one high quality t-shirt was better than 10 cheap t-shirts. ???
I like the items except for the coral print dress. But I am hesitant to purchase from this brand as the low prices make me think they r not paying well for the labor.
Really shocked at the cheap price of the clothes. They can only be sold that cheaply if they externalise from the purchase price all the environmental and social damage caused in the manufacture of the garment. Frederique - you are a lovely person and I am sure you may not be aware why these clothes are so cheap. (Just because something is expensive does not mean it is 'ethical' - as shoppers we need to take responsibilty and make sure our purchases do not damage people or the environment.

Your question also is the reason many people use to continue to buy from sweat shops, failing to understand that the reason for sweat shop growth is the desire in rich economies to possess more goods.
My concern is what is the person who made a $10.00 blouse being paid, and what conditions are they working under. …. Please see where and how these clothes are being produced…..Honestly, I would not purchase their clothes, I will just do without or save my money, save and buy from an ethical company.
Effectivement la blouse blanche à manches longues et la blouse noire sont super jolies, les 2 robes noires aussi. Personnellement j’évite les marques de fast-fashion pour des questions d’éthique et surtout après avoir regardé certaines vidéos de Justine Leconte. Après, L’important c’est que tes achats te plaisent et que tu te sentes bien et mise en valeur dans tes vêtements.
@@Chris-oz9wx no I'm not ok with all that, I buy most of my stuff used and even gifted second hand. My point is that I understand the point of this video. She wanted to showcase how things don't look the same on the models as they do with consumers. This is ONE video of her many videos that encourage minimalism, so I don't think she's going to suddenly start doing hauls like this.

Oh Frederique, shein is child labour and so damaging for the environment. If people stopped buying so much fast fashion,of course they could afford better quality clothes. I think the orange white dress looks better on the model because she has no boobs. For that kind of cut you have to be small breasted. The white dress looks like a nightie but the other things look really good on you.
No they fit the garment to the model. That's why you take things to the tailors. But please buy second hand or quality pieces from more sustainable brands.

You're so much more classy & chic than the models. I like most of the items on you, but agree with you on the ones you dislike. I think the photos of the silhouette of the clothes are misleading -- they look like the fabric has more substance that they actually do (for example, notice how the white dress that you said makes you look like a grandma is more fitted under the model's arm and then flares out to be an A line. The reality is that it hangs straight and gives you no shape, hence the "grandma" appearance!). On a separate note, I have heard the same things about Shein as the other commenters have. I think we would all do well to avoid them.
I love the comparison videos. Frédérique has mentioned in past videos that many of her followers buy from there and don’t have the budget to buy from Zara or Christian Dior etc. so I suppose that is the motivation behind this haul. 😊
I love the side-by-side comparison of the real item with the company image of the garment, please make more videos like this! Manufacturers use all kinds of tricks to make their garment images look better. Lighting is a big one, I have received so many clothes that are darker and muddier looking than shown, thanks to special lighting and filters. Plus, they heavily starch cheap flimsy fabrics, use clips in the back to pull in excess fabric, extreme (6 ft tall, 100 lbs) model selection and poses, partial or angled views and everything else they can think of. Two of the biggest offenders in my opinion, are the supposedly “better” brands Everlane and Garnet Hill. On the cheap side Zara and Mango are really bad, too, sometimes they only show the back of the garment in black and white. I’m sick of ordering “white” items that are really beige.
Some of those are definite returns to me (pink dress and white nightgown dress). But it's because the shape is bad on your amazing figure. Maybe the models had those dresses clipped in the back to give a better shape...?? We love you, Frédérique!! 🇬🇧😘

After reading other comments about how Shein don't look after their staff and the environment, I will never buy from them.
I LOVE the first dress on you!!! Just hem the bottom shorter and you're gold! Everyone should know how to sew and hem- I'm sad that's lost, because we wouldn't have so many clothes in the landfills anymore as people would be able to refurbish them and alter them to their exact measurements!

Keep the jumpers (overalls) both look great on you, I like the wide leg ones the best. Dresses return especially the kimono one, the tops are sweet. The black cotton dress is cute and the medium doesn’t look bad at all.

I ordered a few pieces a while back - basically plastic fabric, made for teeny, tiny women with no shape. Also, horrible conditions for their "workers"

I just placed my first order two weeks ago and it arrived in super quick (just 5 days). The quality of the clothing is definitely superior but still reasonably good.
