I know gen z likes their plain white crew socks, but when i was an artsy younger person (in the 90s/00s), i loved wearing mary janes and loafers with funky patterned (or colorful) socks - especially sheer patterned ones, and I could see myself pairing the red shoes with some. I applaud how intentional you are with your wardrobe choices, though, this isn't a lot of regrets in the grand scheme of things! 🙌

Some ideas for the boots: call around to local cobblers to get an estimate for heel cap replacements, the shape might be more common than you think! Also for the inner lining part, you can purchase leather filler/leather repair kits fairly cheap! Another option would be to maybe apply some sort of fabric on top?
@mn.claude
@mn.claude 26 дней назад
I actually once had the inner lining of some shoes repaired. The cobbler used real leather to do so and it cost around 12-15€ (and the chunk was bigger than just that top edge of your boots). I am sure it won't be that expensive, you can just ask a cobbler and decide afterwards @beepworld :)

Okay, there are so many ways to fix the socks+ flat shoes thing: 1. Transparent socks exist. And these mesh socks sometimes come with a cut that will be completely covered by the shoe 2. Tights 3. Knee socks, maybe the longer format will look better But also, i think white socks with rooshes look amazing with these kind of flats!
@vohol6158
@vohol6158 23 дня назад
Came also here to comment the same tip about socks in "tights material". I wear them a lot during the summer, it's a great solution for keeping your feet comfortable. (The shoes that were a little big without normal socks will probably still be too big with these since they're so thin, but you could amend by adding extra soles in the shoes. That is if you still want to keep them)
@angelaa.9915
@angelaa.9915 22 дня назад
Also wanted to add: Soxsols. I think I heard about them from another RU-vidr, but I use them as inserts for loafers, flats, even my Birkenstocks (so I don’t “ruin” the soles by darkening them with sweat), anything I don’t want to wear with socks

Regarding the boots, just get the heels fixed. The peeling leather can be gently scuffed off with a little bit of sandpaper...play with the grits until you find the right one for the job (maybe 100 grit or rougher?). Good luck. And then it kinda didn't bother me anymore?

For the silver shoes: Maybe try supporting inlays with a surface suitable for barefooted use? In Germany, you can buy ones at the drugstore that can easily be cut to size. It would not work for the red Mary Janes, but since the silver ones have extra room, it may make them usable.

I don't worry too much about making thrifted purchases that I regret after the fact. One cannot always tell how something feels to wear over a longer period of time than a try on. Sometimes I don't recognize right away that the item is doing me no favors. I do carefully think about what I am about to purchase, but even if I were buying new clothing, they don't always work out to be something that I love over time. Thrifting them saves money and gives something a chance at not ending up in the landfill tomorrow.

You can use a piece of wide tape to take off the chipping faux leather. I had to do that to some of my old heels. It doesn’t take too long. Although afterwards I wouldn’t wear them barefoot again. You can try wearing capri leggings under the red boots so they don’t stick to skin

The shoes and socks issue: Look into getting socks that are "made to be seen", socks that are low enough that you don't see them with the shoe on, or you could wear them with comfortable pantyhose or pantyhose type stockings with a pattern in them. I have this issue with socks and shoes too. Although due to injuries; I have the added medical need for compression stockings. But that's a whole other ball game!

I repair vintage shoes for my Depop shop, and I can assure you that fixing that edge is not hard at all. I often encounter some vintage boots from the 90s and 00s with this issue. You will need sanding paper, heavy leather filler, and leather paint. Here’s what you can do: 1. Sand the faux leather layer off completely 2. Apply a layer or two of heavy leather filler, which you can buy online in small pack, so you don’t have to pay too much. Let it dry completely 3. Sand the new dried layer a little with a softer sanding paper for smooth texture 4. Paint over the edge. Make sure to choose self-sealing paint which means that the paint doesn’t need to be treated with leather finish afterwards as leather finish is already added to the paint. It secures the paint on the filler. The remaining product from the filler and the paint you can use for so many other shoes and bags, as you can repair scratches and tears with it. It’s generally good to have those products at home. Keep in mind that this advice is good only if a small area away from your feet is made of faux leather. If the whole lining is like that it won’t work. Also the result will not look like new leather, but it won’t flake and will look neat. Reading the reheeling of the shoes, I really doubt it would cost $80. The shape of the heel shouldn’t matter much, as the cobbler just can cut the new tip around the shape of the heel. I have dealt with cobblers for many years because of my vintage shop and it never was an issue. However asked the potential cobbler to show you some of their works, so you could see for yourself if they do their work properly (no weird gaps or wrong angled tips). And if a cobbler doesn’t reside in a city center or some fashionable area, the prices are usually lower. Last thing please don’t get rid of that pink bag, it looks gorgeous next to your hair 🔥

Here's an idea to potentially transform the white too boxy tank top? It would involve taking the ribbons off temporarily, but might be worth it! But basically taking the ribbions off, and then taking out some fabric in the front centre, kinda like a dart but not triangle just a rectangle? that way the tank top would be less boxy cuz it's a bit skinnier, and the armholes would sit flatter against your torso and not poke in your armpits! and you can but the ribbons back on at the end :) it might make the neckhole not as round, but perhaps the bow would also hide that? might be a thought

When I was younger, a lot of my purchase regrets were about chest size lol. E.g. Many mainstream clothing stores make certain smaller/strappier tops that are exclusively for A-B cups, so no matter how much you upsize, they'll never fit (Zara is particularly bad with this). Now I can spot these pieces from a mile away, but it's kinda funny thinking back on what I used to try to squeeze into 😆

For the red boots! You could buy iron on fabric for the lining. It’s sold in different stores, like craft stores or other places that sells tools and craft supplies or fabric (lindex also sells it now). It’s pretty cheap, and you just cut out a strip, iron it on and bam, you’re done. Some even have just glue so you don’t need an iron. You can even get fabrics that are smooth like leather. I like to use those for repairing holes in the heel of my shoes. Also, I think the irregular shape of the heel is not necessarily a problem, since they have to cut and sand down the heel caps anyway. Don’t know if this helps, but thought to mention it. Best of luck!❤

the red mary janes are really cute, they look good with or without socks (also other types of socks and tights) they are not the typical preppy, delicate, classic mary janes, they fit more into the athleisure vibes that are trendy now, but problably it wont be in a few years the red plaid midi skirt is awesome, the plaid is so simple is basically a classic. The fit is extremely tendy right now (with the large band that cuts the hips) and fits you really nicely, for me thats nothing wrong with it the orange boots are amazing on you (when you showed first I gave nothing for it, but when you wore it: wow!) BUT if you don't see yourself wearing problably doesn't make sense to repair it though about the bags: if you really like the design is really easy to alter/add a different strap. the boxy white top is so easy to alter if you can sew, you can easily open more the armholes, if you want it less boxy you can take the side seams (then when you lift ur arms it wont raise beacause will be fitted) but if you want it loose you can add some ruffled (or pleated) white fabric on the hem (it can be short so it keeps the cropped shape, or long to turn into that kind loose peplum tops that's really trendy lately)

My cheap fix idea for the orange boots would be to cover the flaky bits with a duct tape. You could even find a black duct tape that would match the inside better. And I'd call or pop by a cobbler to see how much it would cost to fix the heel cap. I've been surprised in the past at how affordable some fixes have been. Still may be beyond your budget for something you hardly wear, but knowing the actual price will take away the guessing!

For the smelly mesh problem I would bet that the fabric is actually clogged with detergent. I use borax in my laundry to unclog my clothes and I actually use it every time because I prefer how it makes my clothes feel after washing! Most detergents now have things in them to make clothes feel smooth but it gets a sort of build up after a while that traps bacteria and smells. Some smells don’t come out with borax and those are the clothes I end up getting rid of usually but it’s less of a BO smell and more of an oily smell that just happens when people wear clothes a lot like pajamas for example (sorry if that’s gross lol, mostly referring to thrifted clothes I have tried to revive). The other thing is I HAVE to wear a conventional antiperspirant deodorant with synthetics. No messing around with natural/aluminum free deodorant.

you can paint brown on your bag, I think it's a heavy combination at all (pink+this brown) also you can try to wear your red skirt with boots another colour (not black, but maybe caramel brown, mustard, light blue or red, or yellow - colourful shoes are so much fun)

for the red boots , if cobblers dont have a shape to match the size of the heel they can cut it out of a sheet of material, they also might be able to repair the lining you can go to or call around for quote, its not super expensive, at least in my area to get the heel fixed, i think the most i ever paid was 20 bucks for 2-3 pairs. plus its a good way to support local tradespeople/business

if you spray witch hazel into the armpits of polyester tops it really helps de-stink them without staining the fabric

At least for the loafers, there are specific loafer socks, you could try, if you feel like giving them another chance.

Thanks for sharing! You have wonderful insights, and I think you’re so pretty!!! For the pink leather bag: if you really want to keep it, try exploring options to add your own crossbody strap to it?

That's so real about thrift flips 😂mine never work either, unless it's something super easy like shortening a hem

ok ok for the shoes i think you need a slightly taller chunkier/statement sock! like something with a scalloped edge or lace trim etc. and for the pink bag you should add some sort of shoulder/cross body bag so it fits your needs better!!

Maybe you can make the cardigan serve the same purpose as a long sleeve! Where it with a v-neck cami underneath and buttoned up or wear it buttoned but with the buttons in the back with the back as the front to change the neck line up

The flats (both pairs) would be cute with tights I think. The red pair would look cute with frilly socks

I think the red mary-janes are cute! They would look adorable with low ruffle socks. I'm also a huge fan of that red skirt, and don't think it looks punk at all. But in the end, it's how you feel and how it fits within your wardrobe. But it does look great!!

Frilly or sheer socks with the flats? especially with the marry janes. I think the opacity and sportiness of the socks are whats throwing it off. The idea of the socks is really cute!

I don’t know where you live, but in LA where I am you can buy scraps of leather in the fabric district. Find something very thin, smooth and supple. So it is comfortable against you upper leg, and doesn’t make the top of the boots too tight! You can use a glue that works on leather with a thin coat on each facing side. (You can find this at the dollar tree, or even rubber cement might do…) If you’re lucky on your leather and glue hunt, it should only take a bit of hunting down and few dollars!! Take the boots to the cobbler for the heels. Good Luck!!!

alternative to no-show socks, i would opt for cute frilly (or bow?) socks or with some coloured prints that match colour with the rest of your outfit. I don't like feel of no-shows enough to bother finding a pair that stays put better and my feet get cold easily so they're just not for me 😅

I’m of the firm viewpoint that bags are sculpture, and sometimes worth having just because they’re beautiful: especially thrifted bags.

I don't love red and black either, but some alternative combinations you could try are charcoal, blush pink, or khaki green.

Orange boots are worth a cobbler for the heel, and you could line the inside of the upper boot with fuesable interfacing and satin ribbon :)
