The way it dips on launch 🚀. Either motor thrust angle 📐 is down or the plane is nose heavy
@mihavuk
@mihavuk 11 месяцев назад
Thank you for your comment. Could be either. Next time I'll move the battery few mm back. Plane is heavy in general. 😑 The other thing is me being late on the right stick - pitch back. And then throwing... I'm worried for my fingers. 😬 Adding more throttle helps a lot. It seems to me it was dipping less each pack - I was adding more and more throttle.
@dadecounty305m2
@dadecounty305m2 Месяц назад
It needs wind to fly. When it is heavy, you need to hold the plan and then toss it against the wind then you be alright, lol

Good effort😀, I feel your pain when it crashed on maiden, I went through a similar painful experience developing my “Vector” pusher plain, I had no 3D printer and mine was hand build from Correx (details on my channel), I eventually realized I was using way too much throttle to launch, this would cause a pitch down and many hours rebuilding ☹.Eventually, like you, I learned to use less throttle and launch from a slope, then I started to use INav Auto launch and no more crashes on take-off! 😊
@maskpro1843
@maskpro1843 5 месяцев назад
What did you bring the auto launch throttle to ?
@pablofpv
@pablofpv 5 месяцев назад
@@maskpro1843 I have Auto launch angle at 26°, throttle is 50% = 1500μs. I could reduce this to 1400μs, as my Vector climb rate performance is very high(launch idle throttle is 1200us).There are lots of variables, weight of your model, obstacles to clear on launch, climb performance.What I learned the hard way, is if you have the launch throttle too high and you hand launch is not fast enough for plane to intially fly, it will stall and power its self into the ground :(

1:47 you see why it shattered like that? because you didn't follow the print specifications as per oliver. 350deg nozzle temp with 0.4mm nozzle. i made same mistakes and then i hired a guy who has 3d printing business. gave him all files and asked him for bulk order of 3. he gave me all parts printed with good durabilty
@mihavuk
@mihavuk 2 месяца назад
You are correct, I didn't follow Olivier's specifications for printing. I was using PETG, Prusa Slicer, Prusa Mini printer,... I went my own route so I couldn't follow Olivier's specifications. Cura slicer and profiles, bigger printer meaning less pieces etc. The first one which I crashed was V1, there were reinforcements missing in the nose,... Anyway, even if the plane I crashed was printed and made exactly as suggested by Olivier, I would still crash it. Mistakes were me being in the goggles while my friend throwing it upwards, not enough throttle. I should fly LOS initially, I should have at least 70% throttle and the throw shouldn't be as much upwards. V2 was improved. Now I'm flying LOS when throwing it, with 80% throttle, with straight throw and the plane has at least 30 flights, still in 1 piece. There is some damage due to tricky landings, it is not as nice as it was, but still doing 200 km/h in level flight if the battery is full.

Maybe if on dolly it had a positive angle of attack.... Nose pointing up not down...
@mihavuk
@mihavuk Месяц назад
@@georgekforrpv6857 the main problem with dolly is prop hitting the rear parts of the frame. This dolly is not designed with pusher planes in mind. If runway was perfectly smooth and plane wouldn't move at all, prop would pass the frame. But smallest bump moved the plane and prop was hitting the frame.

This plane design, if you consider the total weight compared to the strength of the printed materials for this weight, should probably be able to structurally withstand speeds in excess of way over 500kmh and I could be conservative here. The same ratio in modern airliners is a joke compared to this, this little toy beats the crap out of those airliners, and they get upto 650kmh of airspeed safely. Get some altitude, maybe a better engine(s), props, or battery, and yeah, go high.

You are probably right. I'm surprised that 1 single 5 inch drone motor 2207 can push this thing up to 220 km/h.

@@EEEEMMMMKKKK correct. In the nearby future I won't print another one, that is for sure. When I crash this one to the point of no repair, I just hope that I'll find it and that as much as possible of electronic components will survive. And after that I'll install all the guts in the foamy. 😉🙂

What's the cruising speed and how log can it fly at that speed with a 2200mAh batter as he recommends?
@mihavuk
@mihavuk 4 месяца назад
The best cruising speed in my opinion is 90-100 km/h. It pulls 9-10 Amps when doing that with my setup, which is not very efficient. This gives you some data to calculate flight times. I'm using 1500 mah because my plane is already too heavy. 950g RTF weight.
@JakeBullit123

Great, maybe battery to heavy?
@mihavuk
@mihavuk 10 месяцев назад
Whole plane is heavy. 😁 I think it is a little nose heavy. Next time I'll place the battery few mm back. I really don't want to use smaller battery than this one. This thing is pulling up to 74 Amps. 😑😉

Thanks for all your comments. 👍 I watched your video. I belive your main goal wasn't your plane to be fast. I might be wrong of course. I think that main difference between this plane and yours is weight. I don't know how much does your plane weighs, but this one is 960g takeoff weight with less than 800mm wingspan. 😑🤪 I didn't want to mess with lightweight pla and I didn't want plane starting to deform and wrap at 35+ celsius sitting on the bench for half an hour. And I wanted at least a little durability. And since I figured out PETG (same weight as regular PLA) I went with this. I mean, it survived mini crashes with dolly and multiple harsh landings on that rough field. And I wanted it to be fast with afordable power train. My goal was 3D printed plane doing at least 200 km/h with "cheap" power train. This design seemed perfect since it is similar to Multiplex Funjet and those are known to be fast. And with some improvisation, my tiny 3D printer had enoug print volume. I could use motor with much less kV and much bigger prop. With that I think I would have much more static thrust, much more punch and easier launch. I think it would get enoug speed much sooner. But... It wouldn't be as fast. 😁 The biggest concern for me at launch is that prop on the back. I know that I can have reliable launches with Ardupilot using FBWA and even manual mode - as long as I can throw the plane with long straight swing to give the plane stability while throwing it. In this case, I'm worried because of the prop. If the plane was light, you can kind of just release it with gentle toss. But this one needs more speed. Next time I will try to launch it on flat field using even more throttle and as someone suggested, I'll move the battery few mm back, I think it is too nose heavy. And what ever happens - it happens. If it crashes, I just hope that all electronics including Vista will survive. 🤔😑 I have another plane for smooth acrobatic fpv flying and another one for - hypotetically of course - long range smooth flying.

@@mihavuk Wow 960g! that’s heavy, for the speeds you are going for it probably needs that weight and strength. My Vector Loris 4K Polypropylene Version is 571g with battery! You are correct my motivation was not speed, it was to build a cheap Drak type FPV plane that you can crash and rebuild as many times as you like and it would not cost you lots of money to rebuild or replace. Also, I designed it from my experience of building and crashing lots of quads and I wanted something that would stand up to all but the worst crashes. I think the fasted flight I have had on 4S was 90MPH, very short flight time, but at slower speeds I have flown it for over 25 minutes. I think you are correct about trying to move the battery back, trying to find the correct CG was the hardest thing, but when you find the sweet spot, it will fly perfect! 😊 I did add M3x6x0.5mm brass washers between the motor and the mount, 2 washers at the top and 1 washer either side, no washer on the bottom. This resulted in the motor angled down by 3.6° This helped a lot on high-speed runs, I had to pitch less as the speed increased. Good luck with your project 😊.

What is the auto launch idle and launch throttle and the climb angle
@maskpro1843
@maskpro1843 5 месяцев назад
I have crashed mine twice and looking at your videos the auto lunch gets better towards the end of the video and I was wondering what you did to dial it in good.
@mihavuk
@mihavuk 5 месяцев назад
I'm not using auto launch. I'm throwing it in FBWA. I use 80% throttle if there's no wind and 60% if there's a wind and throwing it into the wind. It is heavy so it needs a lot of thrust to get in the air. Once in the air, I just have to know that it won't climb if I'm going slower than 60 km/h. And it flies 100+ km/h with app. 20% of the throttle pulling app. 10 Amps on 4S.
