I just traded in my 2018 Honda Accord Touring 2.0Turbo for a Deep Blue Mica 2019 CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve. I LOVE this car. More than I ever liked the Honda. Drives like a dream.
Some of the features you showed come only on the grand touring trim level. I went with the touring trim because I didn’t want the sunroof and the self opening hatch didn’t make a difference. I’ve had it for about 7 weeks including a long highway trip where we got 35-40 mpg. Very satisfied with this purchase.
johnnybeanz1 hi Johnny thanks for watching! Yes I try to make note of all the available features across all trims. I'll try to be more explicit about what comes on what trim. Thanks!
This will be my 3rd Mazda, the one I'm trading in is a 2007 Mazda 6 and it definitely has a rust problem. The engine will keep running for at least another 100k but the body is already falling apart. I clean it often, but Michigan winters and the resulting salt has really done a number on it, especially in and around the wheel wells. Happy to see the plastic edging on the cx5, I think it will help a lot.
Kalter Kakao Zum Frühstück! Haha yeah here we categorize the CX-5 as a compact SUV. The CX3 i would basically consider a bloated hatchback hahah. That segment has a real name but I can't remember what it is at the moment. Thanks for watching!
Looks very nice, but why did they not just go with all digital gauges? Putting in all their great technology, then going cheap and old school on the front garages was stupid. I've been narrowing down my list of vehicle and of course one is the 2019 Audi Q3. While it's a lot more $$$ than Mazda's CX-5, one of the things that I love about the new Q3 is the all digital gauges. MOST vehicles are going to this. Other than that, I will check this new Mazda out and take a test drive.
Gemini 6 good point and thanks for watching! A lot of "economy" tier vehicles still have analog gauges since it's cheaper to manufacture. Mazda is between economy and luxury though so I could see them digitizing their cluster soon
Gemini 6 It was purposeful with Mazda not using digital gauges. They had addressed it and feel the traditional look was sporty and a few auto journalists have said they are, “nothing short of perfection.” That’s a strong statement and its subjective but Mazda apparently thinks the gauges are great! But the customers will decide. It doesn’t bother me so far. I own one. The new Rav-4 has them and they look like crap imo.
Great review, very informative & very funny if I may add. I’m down to deciding between Mazda CX-5 and Subaru Forester or Outback. Leaning Towards the Subaru...I think 🤔
Nice work Mike!! I subbed! Keep em’ coming. I’m on my 4th Mazda and love the vehicles, good price, fun and efficient, and I haven’t had maintenance issues! Have an awesome Thanksgiving!
I want to love that sexy Mazda CX5, Regrettably the Rust after 1.5 years, the numerous malfunctioms, and premature wear, was no longer tolerable. It was traded.
Susie Storyteller: what did you do to get rust after 1.5 years? I had my old Mazda CX-5 3.5 years and no rust at all. I had no problems with the car and loved it. Today I got my brand new CX-5 in Soul Red with styling kit and everything and it's gorgeous and a big upgrade from my old 2015 CX-5. For information I live in Sweden so there are no lack of winter and salt on the roads here, but you need to wash the car regularly to get rid of the salt and dirt of course.
Wow that’s awful!! I’m on my 5th Mazda and haven’t had any rust issues in the United States. Wear and tear has not been an issue either. I’ve been super pleased and plan to lease a new Mazda in June 19’ because I’m so happy. I’m so sorry to hear that yours was traded so soon. May I ask what you traded for and how you like it? I’m open to suggestions. I like Honda and I like Toyota’s new Rav-4. And I like the VW Tiguan as well. Thanks for taking the time to read my comments.
Unfortunately it is NOT DUAL exhaust .. it is single exhaust coming from the engine into a resonator in the back with DUAL pipes .. that's all .. not TRUE DUAL EXHAUST !! Shame !
I have a 2017 gt with tech. Infotainment system is junk. The way the daytime running lights work sucks. You can't just have the accent on, it keeps the headlights on at a slightly reduced output. It feels like a chore to drive. No apple carplay as was promised for Oct 2017. Seats are comfortable. Gas milage averages 24 to 25mpg. I would not buy another mazda after this one
I've owned a lot of cars in the past. Each of them had their pluses and minuses. The plus on this 2018 CX-5 is the handling. I sat here for a few minutes trying to think of other pros and I am just not coming up with any. What I hate about this car out numbers what I like. The seats are not comfortable. It is sadly slow at take off. Burns too much gas! I totally hate the infotainment system. The radio comes on without touching anything. Controls are too complex. The paint is really cheap. There aren't enough color options. I just hate the AC and heater vents. Want the air on your feet? It blows from the windshield as well. I could go on and on. Oh, and if you want the options Downshift just told you about? Get ready to put out a lot of money. And I am not one of those that like gunmetal on rims for this car. Would I buy another CX-5? This 2018 is my second in two years. Will I buy a third? Only if Mazda fixes at least the complaints I mentioned here.

The wheels look like a dogs breakfast. I remember them from the seventies and they looked shit even back then. So much for 'Your science'. The cx5 is not a head turner and the petrol engines are plain lame. The Diesels are much better. You have done Your 'dealer talk' and carefully avoided any shortcomings of this car. The infotainment system is seriously dated. I have driven this car, and yes, it's not a bad car but definitely nothing special. Good luck keeping Your white leather white.
I thought the whole science of the gray wheels was pretty clearly a joke haha don't take it so seriously! The N/A 2.5 isn't the most powerful engine, but in terms of handling this car performs better than most in the segment. As is the case with the MX-5, the most power doesn't always equal the best driving experience. Yes, you are correct, the infotainment system is a bit dated, but I was going to dive into the in a coming video where I compare the CX-5 to the VW Tiguan. More to come on that, but thanks for watching!
