Absolutely ☺😀 She's got such a great voice. I've liked this song since I was young. As I became older and had my first serious boyfriend he became like the male in the song Tracy Chapman is singing about. You've got a fast car is it fast enough so we can fly away, You've got to make a decision leave tonight or die this way..them lyrics and if you've no job or plans so take your fast car and keep on driving is so my ex. I was the female in the story wanting to get myself to be some one. Too bad that I'll always better myself and my ex will never be successful as his just an idiot. I'm going places again..a new opportunity has presented itself to work. I'm stoked for this to happen. About time it starts to get better 😀💖

This song meant a lot to me. I went thru a lot with my first husband. He abandoned me and my 4 little kids. but I put on my big girl panty's and worked 3 jobs I was both mom and dad 30 years later my babies are Awesome adults and even better parents. I wouldn't trade those hard times for anything. thanks Tracy for keeping hope in my heart

Jake Vermeulen Judging the fact that fact that there are tons of comments on this video mistaking Tracy for a man and literally almost none on prince videos mistaking him for a woman I would say Tracy is actually androgynous.
@chocolate11pie
@chocolate11pie 8 лет назад
Shes androgynous lol. Deep voice, androgynous style, and androgynous named. If Boy George wasn't named Boy George a lot of people would have confused him for a woman.
@Caledonian513
@Caledonian513 8 лет назад
When it comes to Prince, I think what you're looking for is "metro." Usually considered someone who is definitely male, but with a strong interest in fashion, appearance, grooming to what can be considered "effeminate" levels in some cultures. He was amazing. There was no doubt that he was a man though. Tracy is androgynous, aka not appearing distinctly male or female. There's nothing wrong with it at all, it's just a matter of her not having super feminine features, added to a deeper voice, an androgynous way of dressing and a not distinctly male or female name, it's not surprising. I freaking love Tracy Chapman and was confused myself the first time I saw her.

@RaveriusMax
@RaveriusMax 9 лет назад
+30secondstomarsMBH That was actually exactly what a song was. When they were originally made, songs were almost always just stories, tales of lives from poor people, rich people, warriors, farmers, priests, city men and country women, lived by people, sung by minstrels, stories of lives in distant places, long epics, short songs. As time went on, particularly, in more modern times (maybe even as early as a hundred years ago) as it became easier and easier to get paid making music, and the saturation of the market (with the coming of the internet) music began to lose quite a lot, culminating in what we so abrasively call music today, like Whip My Hair Back and Forth, and My Humps
@30secondstomarsMBH
@30secondstomarsMBH 9 лет назад
RaveriusMax Well, I like My Humps. I think music is just something with a beat and singing that impacts you well enough to want to listen to it again, whoever you are, so I could like a song but you could not and I could be the only person who likes, but it's still music. But yeah, I get you. I don't think it's satuarised , I just think it's become more accessible and there's more diversity.
@explosu
@explosu 9 лет назад
+RaveriusMax You've never heard any instrumental music from before 100 years ago? Also, easier to get paid to make music? Haa. Hahahaha. No. It's a lottery and a ridiculous pyramid scheme rolled into one to try to make it these days. Getting heard? Sure. Wonderfully easy, and if that's all you're after, it's paradise. But getting people to buy your work without the promotion of a good label and airtime is like asking them to donate their organs, and the money you sink into it will almost certainly not break even with your sales. Regardless, don't be so negative - there will always be music, some of it you might not like, but it's not necessarily made for you specifically. If you aren't hearing what you like, why don't you make some yourself and share?

I lived on a ranch, with my boyfriend and his friend, we were all on drugs and he would beat both of us, my friend showed me this song and told me it reminded her of herself..she had to take care of her dad....her dad had also beat her growing up...music got me through my addiction and my abuse...this is one of the songs. It gave me hope, her and I both got into the fast car 🚗 and left. I have 5 years clean in March.

RaggsNation I feel sorry for people like Fjous. They were born without the ability to LITERALLY FEEL A SONG!!!!! I have heard songs in my life that can cause all kinds of physical reactions. Being like FJ is clueless as you say. It must be like being born without taste buds. You can give him/her(?) the best Prime Rib, London Broil,any and all kinds of great food , BUT THEY CAN'T TASTE a thing. Can you imagine how much those people miss out on in life. Plus I am sure he/she is a troll! So that's 2 strikes.

@AbubakrGalant 9 лет назад
Michael Pollock The way I hear it. It's about a convenient store/supermarket clerk who falls in love with a married man based on the car he drives. he gives her a ride home once and she starts talking about her father, he sleeps with her and promises to leave his wife and kids but he never does. Since she keeps her private life private, there is no way to prove that she hasn't worked a checkout in order to support her music career.

"Fast Car" You got a fast car I want a ticket to anywhere Maybe we make a deal Maybe together we can get somewhere Any place is better Starting from zero got nothing to lose Maybe we'll make something Me myself I got nothing to prove You got a fast car I got a plan to get us out of here I been working at the convenience store Managed to save just a little bit of money Won't have to drive too far Just 'cross the border and into the city You and I can both get jobs And finally see what it means to be living See my old man's got a problem He live with the bottle that's the way it is He says his body's too old for working His body's too young to look like his My mama went off and left him She wanted more from life than he could give I said somebody's got to take care of him So I quit school and that's what I did You got a fast car Is it fast enough so we can fly away? We gotta make a decision Leave tonight or live and die this way So remember when we were driving driving in your car Speed so fast I felt like I was drunk City lights lay out before us And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder And I had a feeling that I belonged I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone You got a fast car We go cruising, entertain ourselves You still ain't got a job And I work in a market as a checkout girl I know things will get better You'll find work and I'll get promoted We'll move out of the shelter Buy a bigger house and live in the suburbs So remember when we were driving driving in your car Speed so fast I felt like I was drunk City lights lay out before us And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder And I had a feeling that I belonged I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone You got a fast car I got a job that pays all our bills You stay out drinking late at the bar See more of your friends than you do of your kids I'd always hoped for better Thought maybe together you and me find it I got no plans I ain't going nowhere So take your fast car and keep on driving So remember when we were driving driving in your car Speed so fast I felt like I was drunk City lights lay out before us And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder And I had a feeling that I belonged I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone You got a fast car Is it fast enough so you can fly away?

What happened to music? even the "Good" artists do not sing about such things. Musicians today, Rap, Rock, Pop, Hip Hop, Country whatever... they are all about money and not about life experiences or about the music, not about helping the people. i listen to todays music in hopes to find an ARTIST. I personally think ARTISTS died out early-mid 90s. It is truly sad.

+Timothy O'B Hi, you should listen to Sara Bareilles, Florence and the Machine and Tori Kelly. Even someone as big as like Taylor swift have songs with so much substance. And if you're talking about artists that are not conventional, look at Lady Gaga (yes, I'm using her as an example) - she looks crazy all the time but she have songs that hit home, at least for me. And I can bet all my money that there are actually many more artists with substance these days. So, I'm not trying to bring you down or anything but I think you should do more research before making such a bold statement. Good day

+Timothy O'B I am a DJ and I think I know a lot of music and I must say that you are absolutely right. THERE IS DEFINETLY A HUGE DROP IN QUALITY of popular music. Anyone with the slightest taste and knowledge cannot deny this. Don´t be fooled by people who say ohh its not like that... they just dont know shit. If you have been growing up listening to shit you cannot differentiate between the real and garbage. Its like saying a well prepared meal by a proper cook with fresh ingrediens is the same as a McDonalds menu. Its NOT But here and there you can find something real... but its very rare. Like Benjamin Clementine for example!

You got a fast car I want a ticket to anywhere Maybe we make a deal Maybe together we can get somewhere Any place is better Starting from zero got nothing to lose Maybe we'll make something Me myself I got nothing to prove You got a fast car I got a plan to get us out of here I been working at the convenience store Managed to save just a little bit of money Won't have to drive too far Just 'cross the border and into the city You and I can both get jobs And finally see what it means to be living See my old man's got a problem He live with the bottle that's the way it is He says his body's too old for working His body's too young to look like his My mama went off and left him She wanted more from life than he could give I said somebody's got to take care of him So I quit school and that's what I did You got a fast car Is it fast enough so we can fly away? Abhinav Sharma That's good, but eventually, if he's singing her, he'll need to show that respect by not making it pop. But i haven't heard his version and don't want to be the one who's heard it haha

i don't know anymore. i never knew really. i guess i just thought i did and was okay with that perspective. but now that i know the truth about this bullshit life, i don't see the point nor do i even have the desire to find one. i wish i could just not worry about it. wish i could just forget for a moment. but even if i could, i know that it won't matter. i don't matter. just another comment on the internet, that dosen't matter. forgive for writing this. have a nice day.
