That is so awesome. What I love about is that it is portable and can go the the work if necessary. At 9:24, your shed was aligned perfectly with the trailer making it look like a tiny house where the split wood was going into the opening. A very good investment.

Ever put any of your stingy scraps and a little saw dust in small card board for a fire starter ? Light the box and it will catch the scraps to start a new fire ( all of it being dry of course ) ?

Thank you for the nice words Dave. Firewood can be physically demanding and begs to have an efficient workflow. I have been tweaking and making changes...always striving to be more efficient. I think I could use one more machine but I don't want to spend $$ yet until I know what I need. Part of the reason for buying the Japa is I don't need a Bobcat et al to load logs. To me, that's just one less machine that won't start when I need it to! Joe.

@@ohiowoodburner Killing me of curiosity, what one machine would you like to have???
@ohiowoodburner
@ohiowoodburner 4 года назад
@@GG-ub4ej If I had one wish it would me a mini excavator with a thumb. I would cut the full log in half. The mini ex would pick up the log, rotate and set it on the ground by the machine. That is what is missing for me now. I also have my eye on the Posch Pakfix which would cut down on my stacking labor but so far stacking is my secret sauce to good firewood. Joe

Gorgeous machine. I like it a lot. Have you had any bigger wood that the machine tries to split but can’t? I’m wondering about how you “unstuck” a piece that’s hung up on the 8-way wedge?
@ohiowoodburner
@ohiowoodburner 4 года назад
The max diameter is 14". So far all my jams have been right at the point where the log hits the side knifes. It pops off easy with a sledge. I haven't gotten this thing hung up yet to where I had to shut down and scratch my head. My Dyna did that a lot. Joe

I'm not sure yet...lol. The oil and filter for the Honda was pretty cheap. I am planning on changing the 46 and filter around 200 hrs. I think it holds 13 gal. This thing only has three grease fittings. The infeed and outfeed are rubber, There really isn't that much to it. Seems easy enough to work on when I do have to replace parts etc. So far so good. Thanks for watching Ric. Joe

Just happened onto your channel yesterday with your value added video. Jumped back a bit for this one, nice little processor. I apologize if you have already covered this before but have you considered a log table? Assuming you have a way to load it, seems like it might be more user friendly than the log lift? Anyway since your just across the state line from me I went ahead and pounded the like & subscribe and I will be checking out more of your stuff.

Thanks for subbing Jason. A live deck may someday be in my future but to have one requires another $$ machine, bobcat, loader etc. For me its just another thing to have flat tires, dead battery etc lol. The way I am calculating this business model I want to minimize my Capital expenditures on machines. If my growth continues that may be my next step however

How long does that chain last on the bar would you say
@ohiowoodburner
@ohiowoodburner 4 года назад
It lasts about 6 cords. You can tell when it needs changed bc it starts cutting bad, gets hung up etc. It is just a standard 3/8 chain...I think it lasts so long because it is cutting under ideal conditions, clean wood etc. Thanks for watching! Joe
@GG-ub4ej

@@GG-ub4ej Full cords. Seriosus the chains on the processors seem to last much longer. Probably b they are cutting under ideal conditions, logs are mostly free of mud, bar never hits the ground etc.

Thanks for the nice comment Honey Bee! I can't speak for the 435 but I recommend you call Bob at www.metsamachines.com Bob has been an AWESOME vendor and support. Give him a call and tell him I sent you. Maybe I will get a free T shirt!. I did get to run the 435 last year at the Paul Bunyan in Ohio and thought it was an amazing machine. Joe

Joe, How much was the Japa setup you have? I just got a Wolferidge Pro28C and FC24 conveyor and they were 17K for the pair. Still have to saw the rounds separate but I have a lot of crooked hickory to deal with.
@ohiowoodburner
@ohiowoodburner 4 года назад
The Japa 365 ranges from $15k to $27k. Mine is on wheels but has the smaller outfeed. It is around $25k. The cheaper ones have PTO power from your tractor. You can buy them as a stationary unit or without an outfeed conveyor. A lot of different configurations depending on your needs. I think for processors at the lower end of the price spectrum you get a LOT of production from this type of machine. For small producers there are many ways to determine value in your purchase...Despite the price of ownership maybe NOT owning one would cost more than having it. I mean producing with a saw and splitter may wear our your body quicker than owning a machine. If you can sell your wood for a higher $$ you can really crank out profit each hour it runs.

@ohiowoodburner
@ohiowoodburner 4 года назад
Yes all silver maple. It seems to be my most popular species so far. I find it ideal for my type of customer. The customers I market to are not looking for heat...they don't heat with wood. They are looking for ambiance and looking for a cozy evening. The silver maple is a good looking stick of wood, dries fast, which is good for me, lights quick, and burns with a nice flame for the customer. My highest volume restaurant told me it is their favorite wood for the flavor they put into their food. I will sell oak, cherry, hickory for a premium but anything mixed is my base price. Thanks for watching Nolan. I hope to hear from you in the future. Joe
