It's the new year... I'm skint and need to make some fast cash! In this video I go out and buy a Mk1 Ford Escort and try to do it up and flip it in a week. How much cash can I make? Spoiler.... a fair bit! :-)
Spot on throughout. Love the longer, less rushed format. The journey through the build is much easier to watch in one episode. I think that's why channels like 'M539 restorations' are so popular. So, hopefully it'll help you gather more subscribers. And the car turned out fab as well! 👍👍
Paul absolutely stunning what you've achieved, kudos to all the hard work and long hour's, love the full build video and no adverts, it's all about the content and not the RU-vid money, loyalty to your subscribers for not selling out to sponsorships, top man 👍
Flipping Bangers I just love because they are such clowns & do the wrong things to sell a car on, this guy however is very professional & the improvements are superb
This Escort gave me flashbacks. I had a neighbour in the late 70s early 80s who had a brown 1100 Escort Mk1 estate. I would often chat to him as he set the tappets at the weekend. Every weekend. For approx 8 years. That is 416 full tappet jobs setting 8 valve clearances a time, including a double check and a triple check - He always triple checked. (He seemingly kept repeating the process - I'm giving him the benefit of being thorough and precise) 24 measurements. Rounded up that is 10,000 tappets. And you know what... I wouldn't let him near any of my tappets. He had a lovely family, a very sweet daughter and a very nice wife. In all seriousness this behaviour indicates some deeper issue. He also insisted he was still receiving 405 line television years after the transmitters were turned off. He wouldn't listen, I was studying telecommunications engineering at the time and knew the subject and transmitter well. (Crystal Palace and nearby IBA tower). His wife left him and I know she was really happy afterwards. He still did his tappets and still thought he received 405 line TV. I think it was those black bumpers. Black door handles, black rear light surrounds. Black window trim. Black wipers.... Edit: I meant the black stuff may have made me think of the dark times with that old brown estate... I read it again and worried you may have thought I was comparing your strange behaviour and chromephobia with this mans behaviour. I most certainly was not. Even if you have a weird chromephobia you are still saner than I am... That should be obvious... and of course nobody is comparable to the Hawaii Fivo-O man (He looked like one of the characters from that classic TV programme - broadcast in 405 lines from the Crystal Palace transmitter). Edit: I forgot a detail. The rest of his time was seemingly taken up attempting to re-string the tuner section of his Rigonda radiogram. I know for sure this took him at least 5 years.
Absolutely fantastic video. I was that enthralled, I didn’t even notice there were no adverts until you mentioned it at the end. Great editing, superb content. This is the bollocks. I could watch this type of video all day. Finally, a proper car show! Keep this format coming.
My then girlfriend (now wife) had one of these in 1982. One night it was stolen from outside of my apartment. It turned up about 9 hours later, abandoned not too far from her own parents house! Baffled that it was abandoned and locked, the police officer showed us that when the locks on them were worn, both the door and ignition could be operated with a 2 pence coin! It was an eye opener for us, we got the car back and immediately invested in a Krooklok (steering wheel bar) Even so 5 months later it was traded for a new Fiesta.
Paul, I started to watch this knowing it was an hour long video... Thinking I'd watch it over a couple of days.. But.. The information and detail you give out is awe inspiring that I couldn't switch it off.. The transformations you create on all of the vehicles that work with are excellent.. Keep up the good work. 👏
Really enjoyed the video. The trick was finding the right base car at the opening, and then you were able to capitalize on that. So thanks for the great watch.
Having a parent who owned one from new, I can testify they came out the factory with door gaps just like it. And the clunking bonnet. Ah the memories. All that is missing is a rusty exhaust, 155/13 wheels and tyres and the constant smell of unleaded. Good to see the Kent(?) engine has gone though. But the de-chrome... 😥Subscribed.
First time watcher.🇦🇺🤜🏼🤛🏼🍀☮️😎 I’ve been building a mk1 for over 20 years. 🤨 That’s In between raising a few beautiful kids and all that. I’m either time starved or money starved. I’m getting close to having it finally back on the road. Hopefully 2024 will be the year.🙂 I pay RU-vid subscription, but it was super nice to hear you say, you didn’t have any advertising in your video. Top shelf work. I’ll have to check out some of your older back catalog now. 🇦🇺🤜🏼🤛🏼😎🍀☮️☮️☮️
Those CHROME Bumperetts Make that CAR..Twin Cam Style..Never Mind the GROOVE..In Australia we put V8 WINDSORS in them..OH, There are RULES on the CONVERSION..$
I usually only watch 20-30 minute long RU-vid videos, but this still worked for me as I just split it into two viewings. I didn't even notice no adverts, and yes that was awesome, but honestly you deserve to make money from these! I would definitely not grumble at ads in there (especially as people can just install an ad-blocked anyway) As for the car, very nice. My friend had a red Mk1 and loved that. The black... not completely to my taste, but it still looks good, I just don't like the bumpers in satin? Maybe matte or gloss would look better. Your content is awesome mate, I feel like I know a secret on RU-vid by watching you, when the viewing figures obviously don't compare to something like MA. Got to get you to at least 50k subscribers by the end of this year for sure 🙂 I've posted a few of your videos on my forum now, and will continue to do so.
Loved the car just a few niggle points for me , N/S/F bonnet not level with wing ,seat cross members need to be matt black also rear seat X member matt black , inside sills matt black and the head lining needed steaming to pull the wrinkles out other than that absolute lovely Mk1 I had one the same colour many years ago it was a pleasure watching you work thanks
First time I viewed your video. Just love the sound of that carburetor. You hardly see them in South Africa. In the 90's they were still fully packed on our roads. Nice video 👌.
Now days its v8 mercs for me but this bought back memories of working on old fords and minis etc and the fun of thrashing the guts out of these old bangers.
Hiya Paul, that is one of the best videos you've ever posted.... Still miss the ones with you and Keith f-ing about and having a laugh, but people move on. Lovely job on that Mk1 👏 👌 👍
I'm American so I've seen those little cars but not like you guys. I love it. To be honest I disagreed with your suggestions until I saw them great work love your channel
Ahhhh…how could you!…….what a great looking car ,and what you’ve done,THEN you sell it to DC giveaways…..i could of cried…..I’m 70 years young and it took me right back, right back to driving anglias, consuls and later escorts..what an upgrade they were!..…i would of been that kid with the dosh, in the pocket…(not that Ive gone much)..Ive searched to see if it was won..it was….Im crying on me crumpets…Great job Paul, and all the black over paint looks ACE…what a difference it makes, the bucket seat frames were real old fashioned ingenuity..look great..…and love the faults that came up,just like the old days working on them…and standing back thinking..what next,..why isn’t it working…..! Cheers Mate..still crying though……!😂
How much did it fetch can see it on there web site.we never knew how much it cost to buy or what he sold it for. Thats w]the main reason i watched it for the mk1 escorts it was my first car. I had the Mexico 🥹
Not sure how many tickets were sold in the lottery, to get the car….but whoever got it ,got a cracker…..and they will only go up in value…great show, shame it never went on the open market, but i think it would fetch a premium price…good on him ,he did a great job…
@@erikdikkers7931 no point in trying to teach an old dog new tricks haha! he's right, i was looking forward to it going to someone who loved it not some idiot who just wins it then probably spins it into a ditch
Car looks fantastic De-Chromed. Low, fast and mean…and there is no denying that you know your Ford Escorts. Anyone will be lucky to own this. Keep up the great content and work. Any VW love coming for us Dubbers?? 😜
Loving the longer format. Great job. We're gonna have to start calling you the Escort whisperer. The car looked weird on the original wheels, like a roller skate. Very strange!
Clocks4Classics Paul. Next time you want to repair a tachometer. About £45 for the kit. Replaces the old broken tech. Easy to fit, job done 👍 ps: leave the bloody chrome on 😂
What a stuning car.😊😊.ive had so many mk1 and 2 s. Loved what you have done.however did you not see it had lowering blocks on the back and changing the spring wasnt reallly needed.just take out the blocks.they do cause more trouble than there worth.and as for the rev counter i have mended so many because people dont see how they work.but yea faulty gauge.great job..
I learned a lot makes me griling and kicking coz im also reviving a 87 model lancer sl boxtype w/c i score in a junkyard somewher here in the phillippines.
I watch a few car shows over the pond which are excellent and at last found one here . Loved this from the start to finish Paul and hope and pray we can see loads of vids like this. I'm retired so love this era of car and can't wait for your next endeavour. i wish you all the success you need to keep this going.
What a great video , straight forward and practical . I am 61 , love the old escorts , i had a mk2 silver harrier when i was 19 wish i still had now , that was a pleasure to watch thank you
Really enjoyed the down to earth non waffle review. Work down really good and some useful tips. Would certainly watch another, but the mk1 escort top suff. Appreciated the improvements to a much loved iconic car.
This is a great format. All done in one video. Good choice of car too. I don’t know why you don’t have more subscribers. Keep it up mate, I think you have found the magic formula.
Love the no ads and complete build in one show but most of all the escort looked absolutely amazing when you finished transforming it. One hell of a brilliant job well done mate it looked and sounded magnificent.
Another like for the new format 👍🏻 My first 3 cars were Mk IIs but I've always loved the lines of Mk Is and I do like the subtle de-chrome detail on this example.
Well yes I was thinking NO dont do that to the chrome! But I must admit it looks awesome mate. Got yourself a little beauty there and it was a reasonably quick turnaround. Great video Paul, look forward to the next one.
First time I have seen your channel, I really enjoyed the style of your presentation. Straight forward and to the point. Will check out some your other videos. I guess you would have made a decent amount selling off the other set of wheels.
Awesome Video. Great car and good humour 😄👍. Brings back memories. My first car was a MK1 1100 4 speed escort. Driven loads of cars and some had loads more power, but never gave me the same thrill as that Escort 😁. Always enjoy your videos and look forward to the next one. Thank you for the excellent content.
love the quality of the videos as they are. many car channels have sold on, developed a monumental amount of ads. doing all sort of challenges but with no substance and lost the main focus. have fun with it , share with people who love cars. thank you we do appreciate it all.
I enjoyed the video, and the pace of it. I even remembered to give it a thumbs up! Leaving out some of the details that are less interesting or mundane is great! Styling can have such a huge good or bad impact on the total impression of a vehicle! Awesome transformation! You have a keen, tasteful eye. 👍🏽 p.s. the seat looks a little too far of an angle. If you’re build in a low rider it’s perfect! For posture and comfort on longer treks, I like 5 to 10 degrees, like most race cars, but that probably reduces the curb appeal I would quest. Keep up the great work! Subscribed!
Fantastic work Paul, your gifted with all your knowledge and ability, enjoyed from start to finish and no adds awesome love the Mk1s,would love to see you work on a Fiat 131Abart you never see anyone working on them I’d say very hard to get and I’d say DC giveaways would definitely buy it off you, love the channel keep them coming 👍
Awesome job on the escort Paul, loving all the black bits definitely looks better, I'm definitely going to buy some tickets for this one ,great video please do another long video like this 👍
Smashing it as per. You have transformed yet another car, I am more Vauxhall but I have nothing but love for this car and how you modernised it the absolute dogs!
Great refreshing video,no bull just good.I had a Triumph Dolomite 1850 HL 1974(N) , ( Bought second hand in 1978)Blooming snapped the back axle doing burn outs,& then it seized up on my Mam & Dads Drive( no anti freeze ) What an idiot! 🤡Scrapped in 1982😢🤷…Great Car tho’
I found this on YT this evening ! I really love this video ! As a lover and owner of a '67 MG Roadster I I have always loved Classic cars and followed the sites for years ! What I like about this site is that you are so laid back and knowledgeable ,yet everything is explained so simply and methodically ! You remind me of a mate at Grammar School who was really switched on with metal work and wood work who rebuilt a black Ford Pop in 1972 and put a Mercedes grill on the front ,a great conversion ! He went on to run a successful Double Glazing Business ! ! was very good at English and did very well in Sales ! I have owned this Roadster for 26 years but when something goes wrong I panic and lose the confidence to repair it ! Great stuff ! I have just subscribed !
Excellent job! The car looked fantastic in that final shot of the in the closing sequence. De chroming and sorting out those silly wide wheels made all the difference to the look of it!
Loved it. Honest flipping and done right. Sure I’m not a fan of dechroming, but… most was easily reversible and as you stated it was to target a newer audience, which is what is needed to get better dollars (plus that’s my views vs yours and it was your project! Have at it). Well done
Brilliant work Paul, loved this from start to finish and no God forsaken sponsored Car Vertical or Carly or Surf Shark !! Lol 😂 fantastic content from you.
Crackeeeeeen job. Car looked good to start with but now it’s amazing. Love the de-chrome. Mines will deffo be getting the same treatment. I have learned loads of this video. Thank you 👌🏻
Learned to drive in a 1968 MK1 Escort in 1969. Loved the video and your work. Just wished you had blacked the tailpipe and got the n/s bonnet level with the wing. Still loved it though.
...considering it is an RS, in a bright blue, the black wrapped chrome bumpers look apt, especially as they aren't the US style mega oversized fat bstard ones, plus they are still chromed for anti-corrosional longevity, and remember the wrap is removable (remarkable was a smartphone auto typo)... Fething some people cry like snowflakes for the easily explained reasons they refutingly refuse to understand, ..just to feel negatively empowered for jealousy, envy &/or spite's sake and moan. Yes I am a bit of a hypocrite, but who isn't, although I am a Krüzenik of trolls, akin to a vampire that feeds upon other vampires.
@@razor1uk610 Hey Razor, its just a matter of personal taste. Someone had the temerity to express their opinion? Which was, 'Black bumpers look terrible'. You don't agree. Nothing to do with being 'empowered' or 'jealous' or for 'spite' - Well, I don't think so. To be honest, reading your comment is the only thing that gives off those feelings quite powerfully projected by the author. Do you not see that? Anyhow no hard feelings, lets all be mates. PS. If I misunderstood and got this all wrong, I'm sorry. I often get the wrong end of things...
@martinda7446 if you got offended by what racer said it's a good thing I didn't make a comment you sound like a bit of a (I better not say it you might get offended)😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@garrypritchard1658 Hey say what you like. How on earth did you arrive at me being offended??? I was just pointing out a prick when I saw one. I don't for one minute think you are a prick, just a wee bit thick with comprehension. PS Please note his reply is edited...
I was taught multi leaf springs had a dampening effect, too (the different leaves rubbing against each other dissipating energy through friction). Appearently that effect doesn't really do much, if you can just replace it with a single leaf.
Mate, your video put a smile on my face. The MK1 Escort remembered buying these for 150 quid back in the 80s. Cheers for the upload just subscribed to.
Let me introduce my self. I’m Paulo and I’ve been hooked on oldSkool fords since the late eighties. You have inspired me and made buy one, so I got a 1975 4 door 1.3 mk2 escort and now I have to do the restoration . So I will be looking for information and tips to do that job thanks for inspiring me. Paulo Caldeira Portugal 🇵🇹keep on doing it very satisfying and helpful to watch. Thank you.👍
