Great Video Mark, do love a old Skool Ford or two , that red Escort cossie was stunning. You were right there was a RS1800 fiesta, I done a walkround of one way back at the start of 2021. I always loved the Mark 5 and 6 Escort, my dad had 3 of them growing up and many childhood memories going on holiday in the them. I think the Taunus was at the Hubnut social last year and possible was at either this year's Hubnut or furious driving social this year, but think it arrived later in the day. I am getting my Ford Fix on Friday at my local dealer at the RS night so I am most looking forward to that.
Absolutely brilliant Mark. Amazing XR3i and XR2i with a mint XR2 MK2. The Sierra RS 500 Cosworth dominated Australian Touring Car racing for years in the late 80s early 90s regularly trouncing Nissan Skyline GTRs and BMW M3s, very fast running at about 600 bhp. The Orion 1.6i Ghia was the top of the range until the 1600 E was released which was a very fine car with its leather interior and wood and classy miltispoke alloys.
Thank you. Yes it was a huge turnout filling much of the overflow area on the grass. I had suspected that this would probably be the case due to the longstanding popularity of the brand.
Thankyou once again for sharing, great interviews & you showed us an excellent cross section of the fords. I love the 3 door Cossies & the XR2 / XR3 / Orion Ghia injection, with the Ford spot lamps, you can’t beat a Shiny Red 1980’s Ford XR, the mk 1 escort RS1600s, wow. I look forward to seeing you a FOTU, I am taking my first car, the mk2 Polo, I have sorted the carb & fitted new leads & plugs, as it kept cutting out in the queue, last year when entering FOTU
Nice event Mark, it reminded me that I attended the regional dealer launch of the Mk3 Fiesta XR2i at the Selby Fork Hotel (must have been '89?), I remember it well as a retail salesman was keen to show me how well it handled, the mental scars of that are still with me.. I did later drive the RS Turbo Fiesta Mk3 but it was a huge disappointment as it was either on full boost or off it and little in between..
Yes I expect it must have been around 89'. I've actually seen a video on RU-vid which must have been a staff training video on the then new MK3 Fiesta range.
You have to love a Fast Ford. I bought a new set of those alloys that were on the XR3i at the beginning, put them on my Fiesta Ghia and later on my Puma and KA Luxury. Ended up selling on Ebay to a guy with an Escort Convertible. I should have kept them as I could have put them on my Fusion.
