That’s not that fast. And it’s not that difficult to pack one. 6-10 minutes is the norm. Under 5 and your booking. Also one that big you can stuff in the bag and not worry. One half that size has to be more precisely packed
That pack was pristine. Flaking from outside the the lines is where he made up most of his time. The guy slipping on his own pilot chute in the background was hilarious! (1:19)
How much did it cost? for future reference and do they tell you if they've killed anyone lol :P like do people who pack parachutes keep a record of fatalities they might have caused :P
@@SkyWolfSkydive If you looked at the wall during the video, you can see that it says Skydive Sebastian. After a quick google search I found that it's in Florida.
With the possible exception of stowing the brakes (not shown, we can't tell whether he did it or the jumper), the guy skips no steps. Even double-stowing the lines on what are often "loose stows". That is a fast, but very *clean* pack job. Well done, sir! And thanks, AllSawedUp, for posting!
Same as anything, the more you do it the faster you get. Took my bike to the shop the other day, the guy did in 10 mins what would've taken me an hour. He didn't miss any steps of the packing process, I would jump that. In fact when I've used rental rigs I have no doubt jumped 5 minute pack jobs. As long as my reserve isn't a 5 minute pack I'm happy.
It’s not the missed steps but the missed inconsistencies that are caused from being complacent. If I were packing my own chute like that than absolutely no problem . But if I were a nuby and it was my first time and I watched my chute get packed that fast I’d be nervous as a mother fucker.
@@VladimirTheLeadHead Just don't talk to him whilst he's packing it. I used to be pretty quick and never had a fail, then we had a guy who would take over half an hour to pack and he got a mal. We laughed.
I remember a Golden Knight coming back to his/our home DZ and showing us pro packing circa 1987? We were blown away at how fast he had that rag in the bag.
Nicely done! I learned flat packing and that's still what I use. Takes me around 15 min or so but I kind of enjoy it. Helps me zone out and focus on the next jump. Blue skies!
was it a good opening is th right question! I saw a fast pack job once on a Unit. I asked the guy about it and he said - squares always open! Well, it opened but with a lineover. He tried to clear it until way to late and the reserve opened literally on impact. I will take a longer pack any time. The only time I tried to hurry for a jump was 6 months after I had fractured 3 vertebrae in my neck and the opening was AGONY. It did however open... I was jumping a Splatostar (Stratostar) at the time which opened quick no matter what.
When you watch a pack video and realize you've missed a step in packing for your last 8 jumps 😮, but then you remember you havent had any malfunctions. Who cares if the nose is flaked? The storm 210 I pilot apparently doesn't lol.
Pete has packed at least 50 or so jobs for me.... NO MALFUNCTIONS.. good openings.. No sweat people. Have you ever looked at the openings in a slow motion video...? It all comes out like an orchestrated garbage bag, anyhow..
orchastrated garbage back? you mean you shake it a few times it gets clumped up you try spinning around still doesent open so you try and prise it apart then realise your holding it upside down? lol jk just got a kick out of you describing it as a garbage bag
I've seen the pro packer at my dz do a tandem in about 3 or 4 minutes total haha ... I tried to watch him about a minute in I was lost ... I'm fairly new to the sport 😂
You can go into a Military facility and see 50 guys working on tables the same way, but they have four or five check inspections along the way, it holds them up and takes a little more time LOL This guy is good though, interesting to watch. "Do I pay you now"?... "Pay me when it opens"...
Yes yes Pete is maybe a good packer and never ever something happend to his beautiful packed bags. ...But i seriously don’t see any way why I would pack that fast when my or someone’s freakn live depends on it. Routine is the biggest reason for fails in any parts of live. So stay focused and tuned. Routine will fuck you up one day.
Willem Schellings im not saying he doesn’t know what he is doing...I’m just saying that routine is gonna fool you one day ... doesn’t matter how „good“ you are .
Actually he does everything he needs to do, just very very fast. Also, a parachute is designed and made to open, so if you don't leave any step it will open. But he does everything he needs to do, as I said
Lol remember the trash packing brits back in the day. They grabbed the 4 line groups, walked to the top with the slider, shook it a little, wrapped the top around the whole thing and just pushed everything is the bag and closed it with two bungees then put the lines in the container in a figure 8 and closed it up. Never had a malfunction.
Personally I'm not so concerned about speed as I am about effectiveness.. lol - This just seems like one of those things where a speed competition would be counter productive to the overall scope of living.. That's just me though..
+Morgan4090 Its what everyone in skydiving would call a parachute or more commonly just a canopy. If you want to get into pedantry and patents perhaps it could/should be called a parafoil, however in common use it isnt. Using the term Parafoil may be recognised (by old jumpers)as a brand name of a particular early square canopy in the 70s. Was an excellent thing when it opened.
His got this down pat, very tidy indeed, he did say he gets $6:00 a pack, so this is probably why he works so fast, plus his probably been doing this a long time to.
Everyone who knows the guy says he's a master at packing. I just wonder how he doesn't get line overs. Because he does not seem to even check the break lines. I assume he knows what he's doing but this part kinda looks strange to me !
To get your A license you learn how to and have to jump your own pack job.. Once you start jumping you can pack yourself or pay to have it done and then you can relax
***** I'd say about 10 minutes for someone who is comfortable at doing it. The most common packjob is a propack which involves a three way fold to get the canopy in the D-bag. I chose to psycho pack which was easier for me.
