Fast Raptor Taming Guide Reissue :: Ark : Survival Evolved Tips and Tricks 

As of February 2020, Wild Raptors no longer use the pounce attack. This means that it should be easier to deal with them than I say here. It is not known if this is a bug or intended, so it may change back in the future. As of August 2020, the default taming rate has been doubled which means the times and amount of food included in this video are approximately halved. Also, to everyone who is concerned about the food I'm recommending being overkill, you can use raw meat, but it takes longer and cuts down the number of bonus levels you get. This isn't as bad as it use to be, it use to be around 1/4 to 1/3 of the bonus levels, now it's about 1/2 to 2/3 of the bonus levels. That of course varies with the original level of the creature. I put the taming time for raw meat in the section after I talk about preferred foods. Also, to the people who keep saying, "Bola it and hit it in the butt, you can tame one as early as level 8!" Are you seriously suggesting that as a taming solution for all raptors of all levels? That is really only effective against a single raptors under level 30 or so. I say level 30 because, a level 30 has just enough torpor that it will not KO in the duration of the bola unless you are hitting it in the head or have a very high quality club. If you can hit it in the head, it can hit you back. After the bola breaks it just runs away. Anything higher than around level 50 has enough torpor that their torpor won't get low enough to run away and will just turn around and eat you, and you will often break your club before knocking it out. And I can't think of a reason why a level 8 in cloth armor would survive an attack of a level 50 raptor. Also, I've seen a couple comments about sling shots. Take that same level 30, if you are quick enough with the slingshot you can knock it out, but the margin for error in its health is very low and there is a pretty good chance that you will just kill it instead of knocking it out. Unintuitively this gets worse as the level gets higher. The reason why is because wild creatures select levels to put in each stat except torpor, which is based on the total number of levels the creature has put in. If a raptor has a high number of levels, and thus a high torpor, but a low number of points in health, you will kill it instead of knocking it out. Using the logic of edge cases or low levels, I could make a video where I have a level 8 character bola and punch a raptor to sleep and encourage people to do it. Because yes, you can easily punch out a level 10 raptor by bolaing it and punching it in the butt before the bola wears off. This could be an effective strategy for a raptor as high as level 25 or even level 50 if you're brave enough! But it has the same problem as the slingshot, the ratio of normal damage to torpor damage is too low to guarantee that you won't kill a higher level before you knock it out, if it doesn't kill you first. What I am suggesting in this video is a very safe way to trap and knock out multiple raptors of varying levels. Is the scaffolding I made stupid? Yeah, it didn't really work as well as I intended and is kinda dumb. But overall the method works unilaterally between low levels and high levels. It has to because I don't have the luxury of sitting beside you and saying, "That raptor is low enough level for you to bola and punch in the butt, just go for it." I don't know if the raptor you are going to try my tips on is going to be level 15 or level 150. If you're on a max difficulty server, with a max level of 150, that information may be completely useless to you. Especially if you're looking for quick taming tips for the level 130 raptor you just found. Tactics that work on low level creatures just don't translate to higher level creatures. When I create my videos, the average level I default to spawn in is level 83. Level 83 is a high enough level that methods of "Just bola and hit it" often don't work.

Actually, you can tame them even earlier game! Just a bola, slingshot, and a stack of regular raw meat can do just the trick.

A counter for the raptor pounce is to have a spear out and hold down the attack button before they pin you, you will keep on attacking even when pinned

No matter how op armour u have or how high your level is, u gotta keep an eye out for raptor packs.

Guys.... you ligit just have to bola them and put some tranq arrows in its head... you dont need croosbows its totally fine just to use a bow... it is one of the easiest to tame.

I just Bola them and then spam tranq arrows it always works (but first I always kill all the low level raptors so I basicly have the alpha of them)

you can tame a raptor very easy you just have to keep on pressing that punch or shoot button even when a raptor jumps at you u will still hit it until it knockout

I need help! It’s 2021 yes I know but when I ride the raptor with the saddle it won’t move?? I took everything out of it inventory I took all the weight off of myself and it still won’t budge I also trying whistle call it over but still won’t work I tryed it on diff raptors but nothing 😐

There is in fact a way to get pounced and not take any damage. All you have to do is have a wooden shield or higher and keep it in the blocking position and when they pounce on you, the shield will take all the damage. Just make sure it’s at full condition. Edit: this worked on phone so I don’t know if this works on pc

What’s the safest and best place to find raptors, like where the raptors are pretty much the alphas in the area? I tend to have issues with everything but the raptors. I’m definitely going to do the taming pen, as I’m awful with the bola, and bolaing a whole pack is pretty much offering the raptors all my gear.

Ahhh I don't know how I'll tame a rapper... me being the biggest wuss and 'safety first' person I can't go in the forest without being scared .... Too many memories of raptors attacking me ....

Actually if you have high health and a axe in your hand you can kill the with the axe while there pouncing you and high health makes it to where they won’t kill you out right

Definitely the best first mount you can get, only thing is you will have to wait until level 16 to ride it. Parasaur saddle can be unlocked earlier at level 10 they are ok, but just really weak so they are definitely not the best for combat, but raptors are amazing for both combat and travel early game.

U can just use a stack of regular raw meat and a slingshot with plenty of stones and a few bolas i recommend taming low level raptors this way if urs is a high level get a good bow atleast and 20-30 tranq arrows just in case and also a 2-3 bolas in case the first one will decompose early before u knock it out and I recommend using alot of raw prime meat like 50 60 or 70 I recommend using this way for taming a high level if not u can just make a trap to stop it from making ur mission fail miserably.

If u trap it and then let it kill u a bunch when u knock it out it's food will be at like half and it will take very fast

I was able to tame one raptor so far (I'm only lvl 23 or 25 rn) but I was lucky enough to find one all alone so I tamed him now im trying to get him a mate cause I want baby raptors but the pack is way to dangerous for me but this way helps a lot but is there any other ways to single them out? I only want the female raptor since I have a male one

Yesterday I tamed a level 150, was pretty easy to do when you starve it lol and it jumped up to a level 200

A spear bola and raptors neer the ocean will work. Raptors can't ponce in water and will rise to the surface of there target goes to deep and the spear has longer rand so you can kill the pack and leave one then use the bola on it and knock it out with the club.

A chain bola some cannons and giga egg kibble can do just the trick.

Choose a high level raptor you want place a small bear trap somewhere lure it there get your bow and start tranqing it I tranqed a 140 with 4 shots

If it’s a low level (40 or below) use a bola then beat it with a club

I think you can also use raw meat for taming
