I was attending Van Nuys High School in the Fall of 1981 during the shooting of "Fast Times." I was in the marching band and appeared along with fellow students during the football game scene. I remember the production company passing out fliers telling us the "a movie was being filmed on campus and not to do anything unusual if we stumbled upon a scene being shot. We might end up in the final cut." I remember the crashed car scene being shot at the front door of the school, which was a pretty cool thing to see. By the way, Mr Hand's classroom was the old TYPING room back in those days, so typing class was cancelled for a week or so. A girlfriend of mine actually worked at Perry's Pizza in the Mall, (where the Staci character supposedly worked in the movie) and another friend worked at the theater (where the Brad character supposedly worked in the movie). Both businesses were located in the now re-designed Sherman Oaks Galleria. Fast Times is like a time-capsule of my tenth grade year...
Wow.. That's freaking cool! Can't believe you were there. This is a a,epicanthic classic of the 80s. I bet you wished the times were simple like back then huh? :/
John Paul Thornton My cousin who owns Perry's Pizza came to visit us in Altoona Pa. right after the movie came out!..Hard to believe it has been this long??
In 1999 me and a friend pulled into a gas station in Cranbrook BC. We saw a dude and we were all like "Hey, who's that guy? Hey it's Mr. Hand!!!" So I'm standing in line behind Mr. Hand and on the way out of the gas station I said "Aloha, Mr Hand!!!" He just kind of looked at me and we drove away. A little later down the highway I was rolling a joint and low and behold Mr. Hand passed us. So we lit up the joint and pulled up beside Mr. Hand. I was puffing away when he looked over and gave that classic Mr Hand look of disgust. It was awesome. Then we came to the fork in the highway and we went left and Mr Hand Went right. I gave him the Aloha hand sign as we parted ways. I was Mr. Hands 1999 version of Spicolli for around twenty minutes and it was awesome.
That was totally awesome !!!! Loved the movie when it came out but its hard to believe that was almost 40 years ago.......Getting old sucks.................
Classic film. I saw it when it first came out back in 1982. I've probably seen it 100 times since. Just as funny now as it was thirty-odd years ago. Thanks for the tour!
I'm a huge fan of "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" It was huge when I was younger. BTW.... I'm Sean Penn's age. Thanks for doing this walk down memorie lane. That Was AWESOME!!!!
This is awesome!! It is so cool to see these locations over 32 years later! I think the book was a head of it's time and the movie defined what teen movies should be like!! This will always be a classic to me!!
I was in HS, Class of '82 back in CT and remember going to see this like 2 months after graduation. A few years ago, I came across Robert Romanus's website and emailed him. He responded back and i mentioned about him living in an apt and his mom in the movie saying he was in the garage. What garage??? Lol He said he never noticed that before and would mention it to Amy Heckerling, the next time he talked to her...I wonder if he ever did? Lol Also, told me he was orginally from Connecticut, which is where im from and went to HS! He went on to say, that he tried to play "Damone" as that of an overly cool "outsider" type, which he totally did with the ticket scalping business and knowing or claiming to know everyone....nice guy to respond and all....thanks Bob!!!!
please go to the sets of DAZED AND COFUSSED. especialy the moon tower or the pool hall. dazzed n confused is one of the very BEST movies ever of the coming of age from the 70s ! LOVE LOVE LOVE THE MOVIE!!
I watched this on the day you uploaded and have watched it over so many times since then. Thank you so much for making this video Adam. You don't understand how much your videos are appreciated!
I'm so happy I found this video. I did not know you did a Fast Times Filming Location video. Great job Adam and Tyler. One of my all time favorite movies.
Was a senior in H.S. when I saw this in the cinema. Loved it then and still love it today. Really cool to see the actual filming locals. Nice work. Hard to believe it's been 37 years now.
Hey Adam, I think this is one of you very best videos....that movie was huge for my generation. I graduated High School the year it came out. Thanks for bringing it back for us!
Dude!! Very Cool!! I was a freshman in high school when fast times came out, and your video of where it was filmed took me back to a great time in history and my life... Thank you!!
I was just going to watch a bit of this but I'm glad I watched the whole thing. Thank's for going through all the work of filming this so all us fan's can enjoy some memories.
Great video guys. Thank you so much for taking the time to give us fans a little trip down memory lane. I love seeing videos like this even though I always feel a little sad seeing the changes. I was born in 67 and I don't know why I still feel like the 80's was like 20 years ago not 40. Ugh getting old really sucks, lol.
***** Great job hitting the pavement getting the location shots and dealing with hospital security. Thanks for the Flashback to Fast Times At Ridgemont High.
ive seen this movie over 100 times. NEVER gets old. EVER. they nailed the vibe of how fun it was at the shopping malls and the drama of high school and shit. :) miss it
Thank you for making this video. I love all your film locstion videos. Its clear you have a passion for these films and i think historically its great that you can make a modern documentary on how these classic locations look today. I am a big fan mr woo
One of the best vids you've done Adam. It must have taken some time to research all these locations. Next time I go to the US I'll be looking up some of these cool spots from your vids.
Great video! Small trivia here...I was working with the guy that you see at 4:15 doing cieling tile back when he auditioned for his part in this movie. I also met Dumone at a Monkees concert in L.A.
So many questions in my mind about the Fast Times House/Pool, and they could be asked about any house used for a film that is now occupied. Does the house have the same owner? If not, did the new owner buy the house because of the movie? Did their real estate agent use it in his/her sale? Does the new owner not care at all? How many times do people knock on the door? Did you guys knock on the door? Can you imagine if they had given a full tour? Has anyone ever attempted to get to the pool? Do they sit in the backyard thinking about Phoebe Cates? * Sigh *
+Kelly G The house used for the Brady Bunch has a fence around it because the owners were always being asked if Greg was home, or whatever. I imagine these owners get asked sometimes, but aren't harassed like the people in the Brady house were. On a side note, could you imagine if Ebay existed back then? They could have sold jars of pool water and gotten rich :-)
+Jeff98177 Or rented out the bathroom and set up a peep show with Phoebe Cates! I was in love with Phoebe Cates after seeing this movie (me and every other male that saw the movie), I was thirteen then (sadly though, network television cut the end of the best Phoebe scene). When I first got HBO a few years later, I finally got to see Fast Times uncut (God bless HBO) and discovered another movie Phoebe Cates made the same year as Fast Times-1982, called "Paradise," that shows even more of Phoebe's gorgeous assets, download it: kat.cr/paradise-1982-dvdrip-x264-handjob-sparrow-t12097461.html Oh the great memories of going through puberty, thank you Phoebe Cates.

Kelly, I have swam in that pool, changed in that pool dressing room/shed, and washed up in that restroom! I grew up around the corner from that house and a friend of mine lived there, his parents rented It when we were kids. Before and after filming Fast Times it was a rental property. Probably why it was chosen to begin with. Production crews are pretty destructive, so taking over a lived in residence is too disruptive for a family that has settled in. They were probably between 6renters and that made it easier to acquire for the shoot. On a side note the movie with John Ritter and James Belushi called "Real Men" was filmed at the house next to this one. I think that one person owned both houses and kept them as rental properties...
This is a great video!! I love seeing where movies were filmed. If you go to South Pasadena you can see many places where the original Halloween was filmed!
Yet another awesome movie locations video. Any plans to do more of the National Lampoons locations on another 'vacation' to California? The Motel with the pool was great and we now plan to stay there on our West Coast adventure next year. Keep up the good work & thanks for sharing with the world.
