The .22lr is starting to really modernize a lot, and it’s impressive how this tiny round is so capable of so much now then just your regular ones years ago.
That "supersonic" stuff might indeed be "a little harder to group" at extended range... but I can tell you first hand that I've sent many a groundhog across the rainbow bridge launching CCI Stingers from a 1960's era Remington 10T Targetmaster with an old Weaver fixed 6X scope at 100 yards and more. Minute of angle is all well and good, but with a .22, Minute of Squirrel will suit me just fine.
“Across the rainbow bridge” lol, my preference for ground hogs is Remington 2 3/4 00 buck shot but I have a stock pile of stinger just in case I run out. I used stingers this summer on some muskrats and at 50 yards it drops them dead. Good stuff.
@@jimmyjohnson7041 200 is doable, but you really have to know your rifle and ammo, especially if it's a little breezy. Anything like a real windy day, you can forget it.
Actually, High velocity (1200-1300 MV) 22LR ammo is more sensitive to SUPERSONIC velocity disturbances than to disturbances caused by transonic region. SK (read "Lapua") engineers are working on HV bullet tolerances and to narrow MV SD in order to make best ammo for 150-200 yards. The goal is to outperform any subsonic match 22LR beyond 100 yards!
Nice to have more choices in that category. I have used the Aguila Supermax for prairie dogs for years, it used to be 30 grains at 1750FPS. I think they're advertising those as 1700 now as well. Keep up the great work.
My .22LR is my favorite gun, and will be out west for other stuff but wanted to try prairie dogs. Im accurate up to 100 yards with the cheapo 40 grain ammo. Would these hyper's be a better choice for prairie dogs?
I would use that Norma super fast stuff to shoot flies off the wall. See if they're fast enough to dodge those! On a side note, anyone know a good drywall guy? Got some holes...
I can hit a fly in the eye every time. The stinger makes it hard to prove cause it takes the whole head off. On the pluses side no meat is ruined. Heard an artillery man say he cold do the same with his 105mm at 15 miles. As old as the .22 is it still never fails to provide a day full of fun for penneys. The shear number of fine firearms built for that round over the years is mind boggling.
CCI Copper is advertised as being faster at 1850fps. Both are non lead rounds but the CCI is 21 grains vs the Norma at 24 grains. If you can find some I would love to see the difference in accuracy between the two rounds.
Plinkster did a video on those cci coppers. Accuracy starts degrading after 75 yards, due bullet weight and design. Cci even says they’re designed for hunting purposes up to 75 yards, not match long range accuracy. Just companies trying to stay ahead of the curve on the communist state lead ammo bans.
I've used the CCI Copper a lot -- just target practice, never hunting. I've watched a lot of videos about it, and what comes out is that it's pretty accurate, but only up to about 75 yards, after which the accuracy falls off. I have to take their word for it, since I don't have a range where I can shoot that far: never more than 25 yds. Within that range, I've found the accuracy to be good.
Woman was hit with a 22lr at 1800 yards with a stray bullet as she got off a bus. She felt a pain like somebody had punched her with a fist on her ribs. Bullet penetrated her jacket and made a big bruise, nothing more serious.
@@timoivo1195there’s a big difference between 100 and 1800. Pay more attention to the teachers than you do the internet bro. School might be shit- well it’s both a pool of lies and gold flakes but you do learn some useful things.
@@georgegeller1902 never fired one but I have fired the Remington Target Master which was more accurate than I am , If I ever see a Match Master at auction I will bid heavily for it , thanks for pointing it out I really didn’t know that it existed.
The 2 close low shots were cold barrel shots (first 2 shots) the extreme bottom single shot was more than likely operator error, possibly a pull. The whole big group that you covered with your thumb is the actual group you could probably expect to shoot repeatedly once warmed up. Very nice shooting a 100yds. My $.02 or a grain of salt...
Aguila has been making a 30 grain round at a claimed 1750 fps for years. I've never sent them thru a chronograph myself, but they definitely hit harder than anything else I've ever used.
If you can keep them from jamming failure to feed. I've put 300 through 7 different 22LR rifles & pistols and the only that is remotely usable is the Ruger 10/22. And I would still have 2 or 3 FTF each 25 round mag. Not worth the risk when Stingers don't cost too much more and have zero issues. On close inspection the ridges at the base of the bullet are a few thousands larger than most other rounds. I assume this is the problem.
@@primeideasconsulting that's interesting, I've never had any issues with them in any of my guns. I had an early model P22 that would hardly cycle anything other than Aguila, Stingers, or Mini Mags. Both of my 10/22s fling them every time. My GSG 1911-22 has had zero issues. My H&K 416-22 also loves them. I've always loved them because I rarely have any issues with them. Oh, one last semi-auto... The Phoenix HP22 loves them as well (and any revolver I've shot them with). It's always bizarre to me how each gun kinda has its own personality with ammo 🤷♂️. I should add, I've been using Aguila for probably 15 years and have fired thousands of rounds of the hypersonic variety.
@@mot0rhe4d40 Not sure tbh if it's an isolated issue with my rounds. I doubt it but honestly, I haven't bought any others to check in fear of wasting more money.
@@CMB911 Glad to hear they work in your GSG. I have the Sig branded version which I have tweaked to shoot much more reliably. I'm going to give these a try in it.
@@CMB911 same here.. I used to shoot them out of a Jennings j22 pocket pistol and they would work fine, never thought they jammed or misfired in any of the 22s I shot them in
@LabRat Knatz depends on projectile shape but generally heavier is better for range. Slower being better.. eh. I've tried the CCI Quiets and they shot like 6" groups at the same range that CCI-SV was under an inch. I've tried the CCI cb longs and while they offer pellet gun ballistics my pellet guns shoot more accurately. The Aguila 60 grain rounds generally shoot pretty slow but they need a 1:9 barrel before they shoot well, and options for similar ammo and compatible barrels are slim. 🤷 Match ammo is loaded for about 1050fps, not 750 or 1250. Almost like there's a reason for it...
@@wesleyk7491 Right I'll take a bigger charge and much heavier bullet over fewer grains and a bullet thats really fast and the weight of a hummingbird tail feather...
I've still got some boxes left somewhere from a case of aquila ammo that I bought in the early 90's that is plated 36 grn hp's that are a bit faster than those normas. Their selling feature was the speed and promised "magnum" performance. If I recall correctly the stated speed was in the 1770's.
I have watched them shoot 500 yard matches with 22lr at the club I go to, it is crazy what some of those high dollar 22 rifles will do. As for what I would use those for, I would load them in my 22 pistol for groundhogs in the barns.
Informative video!! Your CZ rifle is a beauty!! I wonder which .22 LR round is the best penetrator?? I like the CCI Velocitor so far. Thinking self defense with an SR22
100 yds isn't too far for a 22 LR. When I was knee high to a grasshopper we would shoot coyotes at 150 yds. Then we got older and started reading the hunting magazines and they all said a 22LR was a 50 yd gun for "small game". Since we KNEW it was better than that, we took what we read with a grain of salt. Still, those mags started us looking for a good centerfire. Point being, people underestimate the 22LR and its acceptable accurate range.
A grain a salt? What grain is that lol,40,26,36 lol, good comment,i myself shot small game way further that 50 yards. 22lr is a good round,22 is probably 1 a my favorite rounds to shoot. I own quite a few 22lr & 22 mags,as with property,(location location location)22lr is bada$$ when ya hit the right location,
I love copper slugs! In hunting rifles, copper seems to work as well as lead, and a little copper in the meat is a lot healthier for you than a bunch of lead. Because energy is mass times the square of velocity, using lighter rounds usually produces _more_ energy. In that bolt action you're getting nearly 150 ft. lbs. from a .22 LR round--that's in magnum territory! After seeing gel tests, I've started carrying Underwood Extreme defender in my subcompact pistol, to get the most out of a 3" barrel. They shave a couple ounces from the loaded weight too, and that helps with comfort.
That’s awesome, I definitely believe the .22lr has the potential to kill small game at that distance but that was no easy shot you made. Stay safe & have fun 🙏🏽
Many people these days are so uneducated when it comes to modern 22lr ammo. They still think that old mentality, like its only for shooting rodents and soda cans. You have excellent personal defense rounds like Federal Punch and Winchester silvertip that will penetrate 16 inches out of a pistol and well past that out of a rifle, all while doing some nasty damage along the way. This looks like another great 22lr round, thanks
I can see quite a few squirrels getting picked off with that stuff. I shoot .22s at between 100 to 300 yards all the time. That paper plate you were shooting looked like the three or four shots that were out of the main group were just shots you pulled or the wind may have been a factor. That was a damned tight group for 100 yards with a .22 any way you look at it. I imagine that group could get really tight with certain other kinds of rifles and taking your sweet time to do it. I'm pretty impressed with that ammo. Pretty good shooting by the way.
I shot thousands of groundhogs as a kid back in Southern Ontario with a little Coey 22 single shot with open sights. Mostly head shots around 50 or a hundred yards and further out sometimes as we shot at them if we could see em. I even tried 300 yard shots not expecting much as you had to aim it like it was artilery but I could drop rounds mighty close at that range impressing my brother. When I went into the Militia when I was 17 we shot the 308 nato out of FN-C1 A1 and I was top shot in the squadron even beating my Captain Sproul who was on the Olympic rifle team. All due to my ground hog shooting growing up. Little Coey put 60 rabbits in the pot my first winter hunting them. people underestimate a 22 all the time. Bigger isnt always better IMO. Men have been accidentaly killed at a mile with a 22 through the heart shooting at a crow on a fencepost lying down that put the shot a mile away into the chest of a farmer in his yard. Dead. They certainly arent toys.
50 yards is my usual zero for 22 rifles. But I'm reaching out to 400 yards with my setup currently. It's all about finding what your barrel likes best, a good trigger and stock bed, and the rest is on you.
Fist size for a supersonic .22 at 91 meters, good, but I think, if You send 3 shots as warm up and then use a real coloured dot, at 100m. You could an even better group. As it is within a zombie head at 150m I am satisfied. Keep the good work coming.
@@rayjay5836 yep, that is my second choice. i have shot many a copperhead and turtle off the trestles with the stingers. But the Yellowjackets seemed magical at least in my old rifles.
Come to find out I forgot to tell you that hat came straight from Jamey brother. I couldn’t have gave it to a better friend. Great video and great shooting to. See you in a day or two be safe and GOD BLESS y’all brother Amen 🙏
Nice. I love a good 22. I love my high caliber rifles but there is just something about shooting 22s that always puts a smile on everybody’s face. An all day shooting fest you just don’t get tired of!
@@77.88. i did pay more than i do for the maxi mags (thats my normal go to ammo for all my 22 firearms) but they definitely do as advertised......i got some of the Norma and the federal punch they both are pretty hot little rounds....
I'd use it for snakes, raccoons, and possums. I'd like to see the velocity out of handguns......I only have 1 rifle in LR, but several handguns and they are what I carry out on my small limited property. Thanks
@@tracypeterson5925 I have no problem with venomous snakes. I've even owned a few over the years. I just relocate them off my property. If you're shooting copperheads something tells me you don't have it in you to be boxing them up. Just saying.
I have a raccoon problem on my farm and you have just showing me the perfect .22 ammo that I should be using. Really like your videos ‘cause you’re down to earth and shooting at the range just like I would.👍👍 shoot straight and shoot safe😎
Those raccoons have been singled out and profiled by NORMA. Somebody must have had a bad raccoon experience as a child. Lol. 10/22 is such a classic. Great rifle. I've been really enjoying my Henry lever action 22 lately. Have fun.
If you wanna prove it'll run in a semi auto you should get a walther p22. Mine is pretty picky and I've heard the same from others. Mine runs on most 40gr. But when you get into the lighter stuff it's gotta be hot like a stinger. Good video man keep em coming.
I have a 10/22 with the factory stainless heavy barrel. Ten round golf ball size groups a 110 yds. all day long. I'd love to see how those do in mine. Keep the squirrels nervous lol.
The CCI Stinger has a 32 grain lead hollow point bullet travelling at 1640 FPS according to factory specs on the box. Try comparing this with the Eco stuff.
I suspect it's not so much the longer barrel as much as it is it being a bolt action since all the energy is used to send the projectile instead of also having to cycle the action
The fact that lead free is good for the environment is so redundant lol. It’s literally ammunition. Next their gonna make environment friendly flamethrower fuel lol.
With the government we currently have in power spitting will be considered a deadly weapon and the fines will be in the thousands, yup I don't like Communist Dictatorships...
After watching several of your range sessions with Norma ammo in a few different calibers, I’m impressed too! Gonna have to try it out. I wondered if that 22 stuff going that fast would stabilize, but looked pretty good! 👍🏼
CCI Copper are 1850FPS. And are like a breaching load. Powdered Copper formed with an epoxy. Demolishes Bunnies. NQ Australia. CZ515. Next review mate!
Great video as always! I reckon you could call that a 1" group at 50 yards easy. Great shooting for 100 yards and for a .22LR that's an excellent group. For me this would be great ammo for bunny busting or even fox whistling within 50-70 yards. Norma make excellent (albeit expensive) ammo. Thanks for sharing!
I'll have to keep an eye out for these. Have always been a huge fan of the CCI Stingers (1640fps) which were necessary to break in my GSG 1911 (~400 rounds). Just before the Covid came knocking on our door I went to a gun show with a seller who had a giant case of 1000 Stingers for $80. Forgot to buy before leaving. Still beating myself up for that. >.< Thank you for bringing this to our attention. :)
Definitely awesome ammo for squirrel I'll be looking for some of this. I'm catching back up on some videos, I've been in fishing mode the last few months.
CCI Coppers out of my MkII are impressively fast too, but lose that zip pretty quickly. I'd imagine these would be pretty alike. For small game though... Sploosh!
That light bullet is slowing down fast as soon as it leaves the barrel. I would love to see at what distance it slows down to the speed of sound, at that point the wake of the bullet catches up with it and disturbs it. The point where it crosses that line would be the longest accurate range. The key to tight groups at any caliber is to either remain above the speed of sound at all times, or leave the barrel under the speed of sound.
Lapua is amazing 22lr- it’s what they use in the Olympics. With my Vudoo 22 rifle I can make nice groups up to 400yds with lapua! Magical stuff. But expensive hobby to get the rifle, scopes, carbon tripod etc.
Very good for a super high velocity 22lr i must say. A cci stinger would not do that group at that distance. hyper velocity is good for varmint up to 50 yards, not more. Would be fun if you test SK high velocity HP at 110 yards. Thanks for a good video.
I shoot sub sonic .22 at hogs at around 100 yards. Head shots work. Shooting out of a Savage with an ACC suppressor. Grouped under a quarter at 100 yards. Wolf ammo.
Hootie, I know it may not be your gig, but would you run a test on two layers of denim against those similar 22 lr rounds? That was fine shooting at 100 yards. In the way back, my Marlin Model 60 with a C4 Weaver could could come close to your best pattern at 75 yards, using Rem Golden HP's. Keep up your good work!.
What an emotional roller coaster I been on today. Watched “tools and targets” RU-vid guy who compared this stuff to the federal punch out of a 10 in Ruger. Chronograph average for the punch was 1450 fps with the Norma average closer to 1200 fps penetration test was anemic also 9 in vs 14 in in a gel block. . I did speculate that there may be some issue with inefficient powder burn out of the 10 in barrel. I do feel better now that I watched your video. Especially since I just bought 7 boxes from Norma Shooting that are arriving today. They did have 500 ct bricks of tac 22 on sale for $44.99, got some of that too but now it’s back to $80. I love that ammunition for accuracy and reliability! Thanks Who Tee for the research and making me feel better. Merry Christmas
Awesome to see some good alternatives. I've been impressed with the Norma cartridges. I got a few boxes of .270 Norma after your 270 video and they fly well in my setup as well. Seems like they provide pretty legit performance for a factory cartridge.
Good shooting Adam! It's on sale at True Shot right now for .06c per round with free shipping as I type this. Not a bad price for some screaming 22 LR Ammo!
I was trying out several different types of ammo in my .22lr revolver, and I was most accurate with these Norma bullets. I found them I a store for $5.99 for a box of 50. The least expensive .22lr ammo I found locally was Armscor for $3.50 for a box of 50. That’s my experience at the range. I don’t know how they would compare to other ammo for hunting small game.
Somehow just ran across this one, never saw it when it came out. Anyway, I'm curious how this stuff stacks up against Aguila Supermaximum 30 grain copper-plated lead bullets. Their website claims 1700 fps (not sure what barrel length, though).
Friend, the weapon and the grouping at 100 yards of the projectile that is shown is very good, but in my experience in places with winds, and my country has them, you have to be open to practicing a lot taking into account the crosswind, to shoot a projectile so light and that distance. (it's my personal opinion). On the other hand, and in the aspect that refers to effects ballistics , I would love to see one of your very good presentations on the incidence of the projectile in ballistic gel at 50 and 100 yards... Your presentation is very interesting and clear! Greetings from my land Argentina! ... (corrected text) 😉👌...🍷
CCI Copper is faster, but terrible. Made for us unlucky bastards in CA because lead ammo is completely banned here for hunting. It works to 50 yards but after that it tumbles and groups get HUGE. Useless!
