The trailer for the 60 minute documentary "Fat Boy: The Billy Stewart Story" which tells of the life and career of the balladeer Billy Stewart, whose music and music style influenced R&B music from the 1960s to today. The documentary made its premiere broadcast on PBS WHUT-TV Howard University Television on October 24. Stay tuned for national broadcast in February 2021 on your local PBS station. PBS EDUCATIONAL TELEVISION BROADCAST.

He went to summer camp with my dad. My dad was from Southeast and they would "rumble" with the Southwest boys. They actually became friends and stayed in touch until Mr. Stewart passed. My dad use to play his records all the time.

Met Mr. Stewart when I was a child...will be forever linked to him....one of the four men in that car, on January 17th, was my father...Norman Rich....in this clip, he is the sax player, wearing the turban!

I was happy to hear Billy Stewart's version of Sumertime in the soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino's "once upon a time in hollywood" I hope that will lead more people to listen to his music and learn about his life.

When will it air on the PBS affiliate WTTW/Chicago, since Billy recorded at Chess Records in Chicago ?

Hi Gary. Arrangements are being made for PBS national distribution. WTTW is on that list of PBS stations. Yes, Chicago was very important in the singing career of Billy Stewart who recorded on the Chess label. You can also encourage WTTW programming department to accept Fat Boy: The Billy Stewart Story when offered.

I had an idea Billy was part of his show, but wasn't sure of the connection. The bio cleared that up. Did you know there was a 1959 record release with Calvin Ruffin on the flip side? Very rare and obscure, during that nine year period when he didn't record,
