My cycling patch and I also keep my boat at Tollesbury Marina, smashing little village. Shame you didn't go up The Mighty North Hill or Cardiac Hill as you called it. The only decent climb hereabouts

Leonard, I watched a couple of your shorter ride videos already. You seem roughly the same age as me. Born around 1964? That's me. We all had ten speeds back in the 70s, and rode to school every day. I like your sense of humor. Only been back to a road bike for a couple of months. Back to bikes otherwise for six years. My older one is a Marin hybrid, and my road bike is a State, a steel framed number, which has been great for me. Heading into fall I'm looking at being in my strongest and best condition since the last year I did any regular running 11 years ago. I had a ride earlier this morning which really helped to show that to myself. I am kind of surprised how you can possibly be as heavy as you are. I can't actually figure that. I'm 184 lbs. this morning and I eat three squares a day. My top weight ever was 195 before I started riding again.

I think being a kid in the 1970s gives a guy a good perspective on all of this. A long view that a lot of guys, being naturally younger, since cycling tends to go to the younger, don't have or get. When you consider the massively increased popularity of bikes and cycling then, the proliferation of the steel road bike with double front gear sets, kids riding bikes to school and using them much more than now, adults and everyone being much more prone to owning them, no helmets on anyone, no tights on anyone, etc.

Yes, contrary to popular belief, Essex is not all Lakeside shopping centre and kiss me quick hats at Southend. Most of my cycling is in mid and North Essex, which has some fantastic cycling roads. Glad you enjoyed it, Leonard.

You need to wear a bandana to stop the flie snacks! It makes me gag when I swallow them so always ride with a bandana and pull up.over mouth when on downhills especially 😂😂

My mentor was over 300 lbs. He told me if he looked or sounded like he was dying don't worry. It took me about a year to go faster and longer than him. Fat cyclist rule!

@@jollygoodvelo You're mostly understandable! 😉👍 I had the impression that the used microphone didn't make a full-frequency-range recording. The audio quality was quite "compressed" as I was unable to hear a difference between your voice before the fly incident and after, although I heard you via my car audio. 🤷‍♂️ The dialect of your friend was really difficult to understand as I'm not British... you know, I'm from the continent over there that you left. 🤭

The only real crime against jamanity is when it doesn’t go on first. #jamfirst (especially if the clotted cream was Cornish Rodda’s). I see what you mean about massive skies, they look gorgeous and I yearn for a flat ride like that, it’s mental hilly down here! Super vid, thank you.

I grew up in Essex and now live in Toronto since aged 17. It was nice to see where I once biked as a teenager. I do not miss the English weather, though. It is nice you are doing more "remote" rides as I suggested. Just lovely.

I have worked outside for many years and it seems that the wasps become much more aggressive in early autumn. It's as if they sense that their end draws near. So they become angrier and more desperate. Safe wheeling folks.

I read something recently that said wasps become a lot more numerous aggressive when they have been abandoned by their queen and are starting to starve. Can’t help feeling sorry for them knowing this.
