I fondly remember an Alliances 'gift set' that came with several packs, some foreign printed cards, and this absolutely baller card box with a cheetah on the side (I forgot the name of the card)

I have endless nostalgia for fat packs, had the first one from Mercadian Masques and pretty much every set since then. Used to read the book and everything. That said, to be brutally honest I much prefer the modern bundles. I love the box and the spindown, both of which are useful tools. The book was cool but a lot of people would never read a page so the modern bundle has more value to the players. I still buy bundles which is a great way to get a taste of a set without cracking a whole box. I still call them fat packs though.

5:50 tournament packs during that era were basicly 3 booster packs worth of cards with a bundle of basic lands. There were used for limited but also a way to get more basics. EDIT: Also the cards inside it were 3 random rares of the set with random commons and uncommons, so basicly 3 boosters + lands in a bigger packaging

While I wasnt able to get a fat pack (started 7th edition) I did trade for the visual guides and enjoyed when deck builders toolkits had them as well.

I wish they still had the players guide. Feels empty just being basically boosters and a die.

Tournament packs were starter decks 2.0 they had 3 rares 10 uncommons, 32 commonsand and 30 land. Sealed tournaments at the time were self contained meaning you got everything from your packs. So your deck couldn't run more than 6 of a particular basic because you only got 6.

Tournament packs were only made for the first set of a block. So far packs for that set would contain a tournament pack and 3 boosters. Fat packs from the second or third set of a block would have 6 boosters as well as a set themed spin down D20.

Bad take on the print out of the set. Did you remember that the Internet wasn't the powerhouse it is now? Also, there may not have been spoilers like there are now this was a way to definitely say these are the cards in the set
