Omfg Emma, im shocked at the nurses mistake🤬 im just glad you was there to spot the nurses mistake. That should of been a sackable offence, they should of lost their pin & been struck off the register so there unable to work in nursing again. I've worked in elderly care & even I know that your supposed to double check controlled drugs by 2 staff.

Unless you work in social care sadly. As a carer you can administer controlled drugs by yourself as I do. It's shocking.
@nadlerskid
@nadlerskid 4 месяца назад
@@clairekilvert-jones7942 but how do you want to handle this in a private setting though, like in a patient's own home, with their relatives (or even children) as their caregivers? I once worked with an elderly lady, and I was told (maybe once or twice) how to give her medications (i'm NOT in the medical/health care field), and from then on, I was on my own. Thankfully I knew exactly what I was doing, but a lot of other people don't.
@clairekilvert-jones7942
@clairekilvert-jones7942 4 месяца назад
@@nadlerskid well exactly. I work in vulnerable people's own homes and I am trained and insured to administer these heavy drugs, but nobody is checking that I am checking. I'm trusted. And for what it's worth, I am very trustworthy and follow procedure every time because mistakes can and do happen. I've seen it in my work with other carers. However they were not stopped or checked by a second person as that's not protocol. This is what outrages me. Money is preventing safeguarding from medical mistakes. Its much cheaper and more convenient to the system to let workers administer the meds on their own. Vulnerable people are harmed by this every day.

First & foremost, my dear Emma, we are here no matter what! You don’t need to worry about anything other than taking care of yourself as best you can while you work through the tremendous amount of things that need follow-up. The 2 nurses that participated in that life threatening medication error need more than a “stern talking to” & retraining. Something like a written warning & being assigned to only patients that can advocate for themself for a period of time. Thank god you were there. You are in my thoughts and prays as you grieve. What is also tragic is that there was TWO nurses who mucked up. Surely with these controlled drugs they have a double check system to check the patient's note's every time.! I would be so angry as well , its the incompetence that is so frightening. Thank God you were there and so on the ball with her routine. To everyone, as a retired caregiver, who has seen SO MUCH, these and other medical mistakes happen EVERY DAY in facilities, hospitals, hospice, nursing homes etc. EVERY DAY. I was often a private duty carer hired because the shortage of staff and quality of care was so lacking in the for profit model in place . To be sure, there were lovely carpets, chandeliers and free ice cream but behind the scenes? Dear God! Now of course, very few families can bear the cost of private help...when my own time comes, I will not be able to bear it! Emma what you have witnessed is horrific and I hope you are able to pursue justice. However, what I have seen is that the anger and soul killing exhaustion that you are left with makes you unable to do more than " put it behind you" as the experience fades and you recover. YOU WERE INCREDIBLE, EMMA. I was unusual in that I did 24/7 as well. That is how you see things. You will do as you see fit my darling girl. Your supporters will be right here for you. But please, get rest..love your incredible family and let them love you. Eat well and wisely and process this terrible experience. You will never forget, I still remember several cases in vivid detail and I'm going on 80! LOVE YOU LOVE YOU LOVE YOU! (ANN)

Im so sorry for what both you & Sooz went through towards the end of her precious life. Thank goodness you were there next to Sooz❤ Jo was an angel aswell❤ unfortunately, we need to keep a closer eye on our loved ones medications to ensure nothing like that happens. My dad was given an anti sickness tablets just because he felt sick on one day. The nurses told me to give him one everyday. He had one & he didn't wake up until the next morning I thought he was dying! So I never gave him them they are still in a drawer. A carer who was an ex nurse said she was given them & it made her feel so bad her son took her to hospital. Luckily my dad's been ok since but I'm glad you are helping other people to be aware of loved ones medications. The problem these days are that a patient doesn't see the same Dr or nurse continuously. Always different. Oh Emma. As I have commented before, I know what you going through too well. One of our hospitals overdosed my Dad on morphine and put him into ICU. He had non Hodgkins neuroma (cancer) which triggered off his first massive heart attack, whilst a male nurse was by his bed yelling at him to get out of the bed and left the room whilst he was having that massive heart attack. He just went down from that, like the worst nightmare he didn’t need. Neither did we as we didn’t have that long after that because of them. On the day he died, they’d left him in the corner sitting up with no buzzer and he had a turn of some kind. I got angry with the nurse and said - get him back into that bed, NOW. She cried and said ‘why is he doing this to me today?’. I lost it - why is he doing it to you, how dare you! We lost him that night on my Mothers birthday :( My thoughts are with you Emma, I am so proud of you for being so strong, for the person you are. You lost your Dad, Mum and twin sister so close together and it’s been hell on earth for you. It’s your turn to be nurtured and cared for, I hope you can have some peace once it settles down

Absaloute incompetence by these 2 nurses. Im a nurse in Australia & theres a reason why schedule 8 opioids are double checked. Just horrific that even the double check didnt prevent them from nearly doing a catastrophic error. Thank god you were there. God bless you Emma I pray each day gets a little better for you ❤

You are an incredible woman, what a force you and Sooz were together, lionesses the pair of you. We can’t ever fill that hole that is so painful right now, but you make sure you keep deep pockets so we can be with you as you step forward, you have so many of us holding you, albeit metaphorically -but nonetheless with huge love. Xxx

Trolls are the worst and there is no world where you need to apologise for safeguarding your family or their caregivers. Take it an hour at a time, there is no “normal” way to get through trauma and grief. The pain doesn’t go away but one day you will find you can talk about your loved ones without crying (sometimes you will cry and sometimes you won’t), but they will always be with you in your heart and you have them watching over you always ❤ xx

I am so sorry dear Emma that you have had other issues besides all the trauma you have been through. I knew there had been a very serious issue when Sooz would have been given a massive overdose of medication if you hadn't been there which is horrifying but I am shocked to hear about having to change her accommodation without saying anything about where you were with Sooz. It's unbearable with all you were going through. What you have done for Sooz was to give her the best care and love a twin sister could. You and Sooz and your family will remain in my heart until I die. ❤ Sending prayers from France.❤

Even handling trolls with class, grace and humility. This, this is why we love you all so very much! ❤😢I can't imagine the type of hateful, bitter persons who would try to take away from the sweetest young ladies ( and family) in what is no doubt the most tragic of times. 😢I feel sorry for them if they are deriving any pleasure and actually concentrating their energy on making this harder for you. Shame on them! I know from having spent a lot of time in hospital that there is always one person who has an issue. If for instance, someone's visitors stay 2 minutes longer after visiting times! People should be being kind and spreading good, well wishes and wishing people better🙏 Imagine leading a such a sad life? And you are such a sweet, lovely family going through SO much. ❤I completely understand why you had to protect Sooz, though in this day and age, you shouldn't have had to do it. God bless you all. Can i just say, I'm disgusted to hear about it if I'm honest. Well done for not letting their sad antics even touch you or Sooz- that shows the wonderful EoL carer you have had to become for your sis. Im so proud of you for so many things, ive never met you, but ive experienced some of the same things ( unfortunately) 💔 I was in hospital, during that time and I commented that Sooz was incredibly lucky to be able to have you with her, in hospital. I meant that purely because my local hospital is pretty un-helpful, very strict about people staying and I purely meant that just to praise York Hospital for being a bit flexible, I've been in and out of hospital and seen many, many things ( some which you would probably not believe!) As for the oxycodone thing-😱 im well versed on this drug, and the processes around controlled drugs. I actually take this myself. I watched this video, and the moment that you said that you saw "2 big ORANGE coloured liquid filled syringes"...It was like I almost knew what you were going to say next!! 😮I shouted at my phone💔. As you are quite right, ✅️👏 in hospital the ratio of how much of the active drug oxycodone is 1mg to 1ml and the liquid is always CLEAR in colour. Yes 2 qualified registered nurses need to sign for each dose in the treatment room before both presenting it to the patient, checking it again by having them verbally say their name and date of birth, or checking it against the wristband ( i wonder, did Sooz have a wristband on at that moment? ) then they both have to watch the patient take it, and once satisfied both sign the patients chart. But as you AGAIN rightly ✅️pointed out- they did NOT 🚫 use their own stock, they used Soozs' own. You'd think the fact its in such a tiny plastic bottle would be the first thing to stand out to them to double check, then the fact it is orange should have been another opportunity for them to realise their error. It's not hard to read a label. And when you stopped them to question, they should've behaved professionally and first of all they should have stopped what they were doing and LISTENED to you - not laughed and make comments to you the way they did. I'm SO glad that Matron was there to back you up. 👏👏👏 In my opinion that's a sackable offence, but in the middle of a nationwide nursing staff shortage, letting 2 RNs go, they'd be in the 💩 . But it was YOU that stood up for Sooz, that day. I dont want you to hate me for what came into my head, given the stuff ive personally seen in a different hospital, but if you had not done that, and poor Sooz was exhausted and she could have taken it, they easily could have covered up their terrible mistake, maybe even never known themselves. As Sooz was an EoL patient, sounds horrible to say but ive seen worse, those nurses couldve administered the oxycodone and on discovering Sooz, they easily could claim that she had just passed from her illness. Also they could have truly believed it was the right dose. As cause of Soozs untimely passing was known beforehand, they do not run investigations into post mortem and tissue and blood samples after the patient passes as its not viewed as needed. Thank God for you!! ❤ you truly was Soozs' angel that day. I can see how hard the memory of it is as you are shaking and your voice is wobbling, but Emma guess what? You did it! You became the strongest version of yourself and what you said about being invincible, about nothing being able to hurt you again, you are absolutely right. I remember an older video where you were telling us that you were scared to go in to Sooz because you were scared of what you might find or see something that you couldn't cope with. A few weeks down the line and you are already wise to things it takes many grieving people a long time to realise. Sooz was also a very wise lady, the wishes that she left for you, on how to live your life are beautiful. Live life for the both of you ❤ Your Mum and Sooz have not left you, they are still there with you, beside you. Talk to them. It must be so hard as a twin. One day, your Mum brought you both into the world, together. And now you are dealing with their passing just hours apart. I wish i could send you a huge cuddle through the phone. They have simply gone on before you. Onto that perfect white sandy beach, being waited on hand and foot, watching over all their loved ones and looking forward to the day ( in many many many years) that you get your own angel 🪽 wings and fly up to be with them. ⛱️ 🌊 🕊 ( i know with everything your head will be frazzled rn.) Sending so much healing and support 💗 Sometimes the world just doesnt seem fair 💔 God bless you Emma, Ash and the whole family. Please watch over this beautiful soul as you accept the beautiful souls of Muriel and Sooz into the glorious kingdom of paradise. No more pain or suffering. Hearts did indeed break all over the world. Please Lord, enrich Emmas spirit and continue to watch over her, give her strength, especially now in such a sorrowful time. Let us all grant Soozs' wish and spread her story, now and always, Amen xxx 🙏 ❤🎉

I'm so glad you were never intimidated by those pig-ignorant people who trolled you. The shame is theirs alone whether they feel it themselves or not, and if they don't feel it yet, they will one day when they are in a situation of need and they will forcibly understand how vile it is to mock people who are doing their very best in terrible circumstances. Weird is the word for them. It doesn't matter to us, where Sooz was getting her care, so long as she was being well cared for. And I can confirm that PALS are on our side as I have had cause to make a complaint through them and know they are really on our side. I'm glad you had the chance to explain to us what happened that dreadful day. It must be a little bit of a hollow victory that the outcome comes just as it is too late for Sooz, but you did save Sooz more days with you here, as well as put something right which just had to be done to save so many others dying too through drug mistakes. There's no timetable for recovery Emma. Take all the time you need! Much love!

You did the right thing keeping the move private. It's sad that people are so cruel. I've spent many a day in hospital and can tell you it's always traumatic. Unfortunately your experience was beyond unacceptable. I however think you need to give yourself a break. You are not super human. You can't take it all on yourself. Let go of the role of caretaker. Work on restoring Emma.

So glad you were there the day the nurses tried to give Sooz the wrong dosage of her meds! You have certainly been put through the wringer this past year. You need to be able to take time for yourself to recover from all that you've been through. Being caregiver for one person is extremely hard on the caregiver. Then you also had to worry about your mother! You need a couple of years to just relax and recover.
