It is crazy how things like Go for the throat was a very popular card, but nowadays you wouldnt really play it since u play Fatal Push, or something with big upside like Assassins Trophy that do more than creature removal. It just feels like due to fatal push, any removal more than 2cmc cant just be creature removal anymore.

Nowadays creatures just be engine, enablers, payoff, protection and 5-th "element" just for the sake of having it, otherwise "__it's not worth it__" With this direction, lots of fun will be lost because the game won't be the "cool deck against another cook tactic & synergy", but ... "Cool card #1 vs cool card #2"

@bradcallahan3546 idk man I remember pre order prices being high and it holding. Pretty rare for an uncommon to do that. I would say that the vast majority of people that were into competitive magic at the time could see the power level.

Fatal Push was known to be so strong from day 1 that a couple years before it got spoiled, a guy in a custom magic cards subreddit uploaded a custom design called "bear snare" that was a strictly worse Fatal Push (only killing creatures with CMC=2) and people still trashed him over how broken the card he uploaded was

I've seen some 5 Mana dragon with protection from white runaway with some games since it can't be destroyed by push, bolt, or path it was pretty funny when that happened

I remember huntmaster. Push definitely showcased the new road through modern in regards to removing creatures. Also, if they powercreep lightning bolt, magic will need to seriously reevaluate itself.

Fatal Push is even a workhorse in Commander, where people like Battlecruiser Magic. So many value creatures die to it, even powerful Commanders get it. And it's even easier to proc with not just fetches, but the myriad of self-sacrificing tokens in the format

Well black has lots of good removal but mostly at 2cmc like doom blade, eliminate, power word kill, Infernal Grasp, bitter triumph, damn, etc. Your best option before Fatal Push at 1cmc was like Murderous cut at that doesn't work early in the game like to kill a Ragavan

I remember running terminate and dreadbore, and as well a spicy 1 of murderous cut. Tarkir was the early days of modern for me as splinter twin got dethroned. I never got to enjoy deathrite but owe I heard the stories. But o boy fatal push punished man lands i was never more afraid to rev up raging ravine

Bolts already been powercrept. Unless you're playing burn why settle for 3 damage when you can deal 6 or more with unholy heat and galvanic discharge

Yes: why care about direct damage when you can remove blockers and attack through on and on and on? That's a sad reality. (Despite I like more the "attackers and removal are slices of decks working together" than the "generically good cards")

In fact the non land restriction wouldn't be that big of a deal on Pioneer, where there are no "Modern" Fetchlands... I wish they ban it there then they can make the nerfed version...

Fatal Push is way OP in Pioneer. Of all the removal in existence is the only one that rewards players for sacrificing permanents or a saga leaving the board.

The main interaction with fetchlands isn’t there, so it’s fine imo. Something like treasure cruise being banned is definitely still on the table though

@@awesomeguy5451 Revolt is triggered with a saga leaving the BF, Sacrificing tokens ot creatures, activating a field of ruin. Not to mention you include Thoughtseize, Bitter triumph and another board wipe. This is no longer 2019.

I dare to deny: why needing to deal 3 damage when you could remove the opponent's cards (unholy heat, etc) and let your attackers go through? I wished it was still relevant, but nowadays Lightning Bolt faces the need of being more and more efficient in the context it lives in, which is your own deck at least

decks with dark ritual put on a faster clock than decks with bolt decks with bolt check creature size, decks with ritual check interaction in my opinion ritual is much stronger and format warping
