A beautifully simple story about one mans war. Nobody in Russia went through the war without losing family members...this film was for them. It glorified nothing and was about humanity. In short a masterpiece. Thank you for bringing it to us. 🙂👍❤

Aah...what a great movie it is! The moment of my joy when the father and child meet (1:30-31) together. Both have lost their families and and they are so closure to each other as if they are a single blood. Watching those Russian war movies makes me realize that I'm living is such a beautiful time of history where I have my family, where I can eat, drink, swim, sing, run, dance and do all the crazy things of my choice. I don't need to fear my life due to war, famine, escape, robbery or of those horrible consequences of war. I live in such a good time of demorcracy with such a freedom of expression in anyway. At the same time I express my love and compassion to those who are still sufferring from war around the world. May God bless those governments with wisdom to end it sooner and embrace their fate without war. Thank you Mosfilms for uploading such a wonderful movie. Always grateful. Kathmandu 24.01.2024
I watch a lot of these Russian films and they're all very very good , better than Hollywood I would say. The props and settings showing the 1930s in the USSR are really very good and look very authentic. When people talk about films they talk about Hollywood and all the stars, the rich and famous. But these films films are about real life in Russia in those hard days and times that we rarely hear of in the West, partly because of political rivalry, and because of this, the West rarely see the Russian people the suffering they had to endure. I search the internet and RU-vid to find all these films and I say more more because they are about real life and suffering that is very often forgotten. Bravo bravo, I really appreciate these and often recommend them to my friends so I speak for them also.🌻🌻🌻🌼🌷💖
Great description and analysis for many a great Russian film. Few older Western Movies can reach this level of excellence. I especially like the Great Patriotic War Movies. Shows, in many situations, the real face of the Russian People. Tough People who earned their place to be admired & recognized for their accomplishments in life.
I totally agree with you. I find Hollywood movies often overrated, shallow, even boring. Another country whose movies I have started to like are Turkish movies and Chinese ones. @@fayevalentine2695 I do believe the description is based upon the exploits of a "Russian Soldier" - Andrei Sokolov who valiantly fought in WW 2/Great Patriotic War. An Individual amongst the Soviet Peoples in the then USSR. Wonderful Movie. I've since lost much initiative in viewing/learning about the Soviet Peoples. Putin's Peoples. Thank you.

Beautifully done. I could feel the happiness and love in his family that then turns to ashes. The strength of the Russian people during this terrible time is astounding and very praiseworthy.

The child is heavenly-looking. 🥰 He was 6 in this motion picture and acted like a natural. The way he cried.. sounded so real I thought for a second it WAS real 😰 he would have won himself an Oscar for it if they (just saying) didn’t force it to sound like they wanted it. He kept acting until last year. Saying no more. What a lovely kid. 😍 The actor himself Sergei is remarkable and reminds me LOTS of Robert Urich. Come to think about it is Urich a Russian surname? He also had two daughters and a son just like in the movie.. all actors .. one of which has died young at 47 to breast cancer. She’s had one son.
I don't agree with you. This is not the Russian spirit, this is the spirit of a real person - no matter what nationality. It's just that the Soviet government knew how to cultivate the best feelings in a person.

It’s great to watch a movie where you don’t see recycled actors that you m ow from other movies. Makes it so much more authentic. When you see a Tom cruise movie you’re thinking of his persona, and social media, gossip, etc… in these Russian war films, it’s refreshing to watch people you don’t know, and makes the movie feel more authentic

No, he's probably dead..He said at the end that the heart is sick.A maximum of 5 more years of life.He smokes a lot .And with a sick heart it is impossible..It's not like Hollywood where everything is always good in the end..This is not in the Russian tradition
Don't make Stalin sound like a innocent vicim. He was as evil as his buddy Hitler. Millions of Russians died in Gulags during his reign. Hope he and Adolf roast in hell for eternity.
Thank you Mosfilm for bringing us such priceless jewels from an era which the entire world of working and toiling masses looked up to . One thing is remarkable about Soviet era movies is that they are simple ,easy to understand , extremely humane in nature and last but of course not the least that there is no place for rotten obscenity at all which is really really wonderful as it is unheard of present day English and Hindi movies . The only difficulty is that these movies are in Russian which creates a hindrance for non Russian audience but English subtitles to a great extent take care of this lacunae .

You'll come away appreciating the film for all that it delivers. It was emotionally powerful. All actors played their roles extremely well. I enjoy Russian films and don't really mind the subtitles. I would rather hear it in their language than have it dubbed. It was worth watching for more than the action. It is indeed a good dramatic film.
I am speechless: and these are the people, and the nation we are supposed to fear, now, in February of 2022, just imagine; that now we are told to hate, and fear, and go to war against, even with nuclear weapons, because they will NEVER surrender their SOULS, NOR their CHILDREN'S FUTURE to the beastmen who want only to ravage, and attempt to destroy the power of Human Love and the courage to NEVER give up the Mission of Life itself, which is a gift we dare not squander, because we do not have a right to quit loving, and living for the benefit of others. Because it is only for that, that we were born. You see, as Mr. Sokolov, the Actor, and the subject of this drama reveals -- there is no other Reason for Life -- it is not the "Fate of A Man": It is the PURPOSE of all Men, of All Human beings, of All Souls. Every russian family story might be the same. Mine. My granmother family was killed at Stalingrad by bombs. Father, 2 years brother and oldest brother, her mother. She escapeed with her aunt. She was 6 years old.

This is a really excellent film, and it's got me pretty emotional to say any more than that. So thank you very much for making it available to watch like this. I wouldn't have likely seen Fate of a Man and will not soon forget it.
There are no movies like this anymore, that's why our souls are so arid and barren. To me there is no "hope' for a better future in this film, there is fate, destiny and humanity. Sometimes humanity requires that you kill , as Solokov did with the thug who wanted to snitch on the communist when they were held in a church. It is a paradox, like the rest of every life. "Life is take told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, and signifying nothing." (Macbeth).
What a special fate he must have had. And what was the treasure he finally reached? It was a thrilling masterpiece that made me contemplate life. It is a wonderful cinema. Absolutely worth watching.

an excellent film and at this time i am grateful for this channel. there are things we in the west need to understand, to consume, about other important cultures. the soviets lost upward of 26 million people under a meat grinder leader and then a general who had to save stalingrad. were it not for russia, fascists would be ruling europe today. thanks for making the film available. thanks for your channel.
Very true. The west is either ignorant or willingly ignoring the enormous suffering and sacrifice of Soviet people in the great patriotic war. Current western narrative all dismissing the contributions by the Soviet Union and attributing the victory all to themselves. Worse than that is the revival of nazism in many Eastern European countries. This is great humiliation to the Russian people. The west just don’t understand this and the current situation is the result of that. Such a shame and tragedy.
Well, you don't need to be a fan of Russia, but... doesn't the quality of movies you watch here, their mood and humanity make you feel that the common image of Russian people (stereotype) being installed by the media in the West is somewhat biased and not completely right? If someone's culture is able to produce THIS - maybe it tells something about the culture itself and its owners?..

Тех он тоже половину выкосил потому что они были неготовыми к такому и умерли с голоду. Не надо безграмотное отношение к истории пихать сюда.
I have to say modern Russian people are the pale shadow of those people who fought and won that war. I've managed to talk to them (my grandparents) but the next generation clearly lacks the opportunity altogether. Although we are their heirs, we are not them.
